Damus’ goal from day one has always been to give individuals complete control over the types of interactions they want to have. Algorithms, users, and advertisers do not have authority over individual preferences. If a user doesn’t want to receive zaps, they can not add a lightning address to their profile. Now if they don’t want to receive likes, they can turn them off. In the future users will also be able to turn off replies unless they are subject to certain conditions, such as if they are friends or only zap comments. If you don’t like users who use these features, you don’t have to follow them. I still think you should try to respect users preferences even if you disagree with them. Just my 2 sats ✌️

I agree, and I hope the discussion stays about ideas. I don't always have to agree to *100% support* the work you are doing, and respect the work and effort you are giving this community. Respect needs to be maintained on both sides of any conversation.
Thanks for giving us the tools to do whatever the fuck we want
Being able to curate your own experience is where it’s at for sure. As an aside the OnlyZaps toggle solves my constantly hitting 🤙🏻 by accident. 😅 Was driving me nuts since you couldn’t undo a like
This type of thinking about social networks is ahead of it’s time. Same features with more normie feel coming down the line mainstream in 5 years

I reached to the like button but didn’t find it… zapped
What happens when a user disables likes for their notes in Damus and someone likes them in Amethyst for example? Do Amethyst users see the likes but the author of the note does not?

Sounds fair, but it just sounds like we spent engineering effort to defeature the 🤙 , and engineering effort (your time specifically Will, is a precious resource. I’ll continue giving 🤙 or ⚡️ as I see fit. It’s ok if they don’t see the 🤙, their choice.
I want to block the liar's attention, but Damus can't block it. I deleted it several times, but these scammers still follow my account.
I love the focus on empowering users. By 'turn off replies' do you mean 1) allow damus users to prevent seeing replies to their own notes 2) send metadata in the note that expresses their wish for no replies / only replies from a subset of users that clients can choose to respect or not 3) remove the option from damus to reply to these messages / view replies to original author does not?
I’m sure “users” are not gaslit in their own personal spaces about the gross “preferences” of others and manipulated into thinking THEY are a preference to waste years of their life wishfully hoping on just to be gaslit and abused and made to feel purposefully bad about themselves 🤮🤮🤮
I like the option to customize. I just do think the people building this plaform, both folks like you at the heart and those helping develop it out & provide content, are overly focused on monetizing. When someone has a quality product/post, people will want to forward their money, and many people are craving microtransactions. When it's constantly requested/expected/demanded, that's a turnoff from a marketing perspective. People will be wise to remember the majority of consumers/citizens don't want to feel that every interaction is pay to play. Either way, the customizable feature caters to all mindsets.
Also if I use a hardware wallet w/ app, is there a way to zap without a 3rd party or copy invoice each time?
Excited for how this is shaping up. Finally the value will accrue to the network!
