I think things have always been like this the only difference is that now it's more in the open. Previously before the internet and things like nostr the government needed to control only mainstream media which was easy now with independent content creators this is a lot more difficult to do. So the more freedom of information and freedom of speech there is more and more totalitarian measures are needed by the governments to maintain control of the narrative.

Doing an ‘us and them’ or diminishing those who disagree and grouping them as a ‘dim’ or ‘lacking self awareness’ mass group is simplistic I think. There is a myriad of variations in experiences and going black and white is a mental shortcut. For instance the term ‘sheeple’ is used in such a way. It isn’t good. I haven’t read a lot of history but I don’t think that would have been obvious to one who doesn’t know me though.

The more I think about my comment the more I think it was wrong. Perhaps even dangerously wrong. Yes, the political, healthcare, cultural, and scientific response to Covid was bonkers. Scientists are still ardently refusing to utilize scientific method and tools to learn anything about the origin of the virus. This is so patently self serving that it should disqualify the entire cohort. But, here is my point. Conceding every bad thinking and action around the pandemic does not mean that every preceding moment in history is necessarily bunk. I think it is dangerous to wholesale throw the baby out with the bath water because we will be left with no perch from which to seek to understand anything. This sort of deconstruction serves chaos, not knowledge and understanding.

I empathize with this take, but at the same time, it misunderstands the nature of reality. Every person who behaves immorally weakens themselves, every single time. Also, this person "merely" discovered that evil exists. I suppose some people will not have the chance, but some people will have the chance to interact with, to meet real evil. Many are under the illusion that people are good, and some are. But there are people who truly are evil, because they made that selection, and some evil aim down to hell itself. While grief at this realization, that truly evil people exist who intend to steal, kill, and destroy other people, is understandable it is also an opportunity to pay attention to God and realize that God, who is Goodness, is the center of the universe and not evil and that all of the universe in some spiritual sense is sliding relentlessly towards Him, towards the Light, and the inevitability of the removal of all evil and darkness, lies and destruction, sickness and disease, pain and suffering, and all things being made new is coming and no one can stop it, not even the devil himself nor the entire fiat complex. God, hope and life are relentlessly coming.
