Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success.

This is a great way to frame this.
taxes are a scam by the ruling class, imposed through deception, which you only agree to pay out of fear.

I like this take. The problem is always us.
I agree with the direction you are pointing, so my point of disagreement is with the expression of “totally voluntary society” non-voluntary relations are inherent to the human condition. so the idea of scrubbing them out of our humanity invalidates the anthropology. mediating those necessary non-voluntary relations and overcoming the asymmetrical power dynamics has and always will be the task of civilization. and i think a main contributor of humanity continually overshooting in both directions is becuase we frame the objective/goal in fantastical/ideal terms that simply aren’t real.
? the collection of human beings co-existing in reality together at the same time does the work for you? i was using the term more generally than specifically, so if it bothers you use whatever word you prefer to mean the above. it’s funny that of all the things you could respond to in my note, “civilization” is the word that stuck out
That is pure bullshit, taxes are, although not funny when you need to pay, absolutely neccesary for a functioning society. There is a minimum for that, and a maximum. Id say 30% is neccessary
