If it doesn't go to court than there is no precedent
Damn, wonder what precipitated the need to plead guilty…

not a court precedent but a perception precedent still
Sadge.
They were likely threatened with reputation damage, eternal lawfare and worse unless they made a plea deal. This is how the system works to avoid establishing legal precedents that would be inconvenient to itself.
Maybe. Lets see
Tragic. Say it ain't so!
👀
Depends what they plead guilty to, if it's their dumb tweets and messaging then...yeah doesn't matter.
I hope they do ok
All the money poured into their defense feels like a Honeypot, fuck I hate being right about this garbage.
Hopefully they only plead guilty to their methods of promotion, not their methods of coordination.
Still, if it's only the central hosted (default) whirlpool instance they provided that hurt them - then that's not the worst case scenario either - decentralize & forgo that extra greedification / simplification.
not good.
Of course there will be.
I don't follow the case or pretend to know legalese. I merely know that it's the first case of its kind. The outcome sets the precedent
Prosecutors will look at this case and decide wether it's worth prosecuting or not. If prior cases led to guilty pleads it's a win in their books so the incentive and the standard will be set.
prosecution realized they fucked up so bad they might lose the case so they leaned on the judge as hard as they could and still have to cut a sweetheart deal to get the guilty plea and the legal precedent they need to keep throwing software developers in jail
the american legal system, ladies and gentlemen 👏
Smoke and mirrors
Back in the day, Ross Ulbricht and Julian Assange were prime examples of "justice".
Every government is a psychopath. And psychopaths always need someone to torture.
Now it's the turn of the Samourai Wallet developers...

and the shattered dreams of believers in truth, justice, and the rule of law
...fucking disgraceful
Fuck
Rule of law can never exist when it is based on non consensual parties
Sad…

A plea deal doesn't go to court and a court is needed to set a precedent
Wtf??
What the fuck
i thought the trump admin was "crypto friendly" and "ending the war against crypto"
guess they only support cucked kyc coin, not actually freedom money
They're trading your xpubs for a lighter sentence.
It still sets a de facto precedent. Judges are not bound by such references, but they can influence plea negotiations, bail decisions, or sentencing in similar cases.
Rugged
If they plead guilty to advertising misconduct, re: blatantly marketing to "criminal" use cases - then this case is irrelevant.
Not so free

trump is a self-engrossed grifter, no surprise here
We are looking for an investor who can loan our holding company 237,000 US dollars.
With this money, we will open a farm in Baku, Azerbaijan to produce animal-based food.
We will also make our own animal feed, so our products will be healthier, better quality, and cheaper.
Because we sell quality products for less and have strong advertising, we will sell more worldwide and make big profits.
Why Azerbaijan? Because animal farming makes a lot of money there, but few people do it. That’s why we will earn more by starting in Azerbaijan.
Additionally, by producing our own animal feed, we will be able to sell healthier, higher quality animal products at a lower price.
Since we can sell quality products cheaply and thanks to our strong advertising network, we will be able to sell more internationally and make huge profits.
The reason for establishing the business in Azerbaijan is that animal husbandry is a very profitable business in Azerbaijan, but since there are very few people doing animal husbandry, establishing the farm in Azerbaijan will provide us with more income.
Your profit:
You will lend 237,000 US dollars to our holding company and when 22.03.2026 comes, you will receive your money back as 953,000 US dollars.
Your earnings will be great. When 22.03.2026 comes, you will get your money back as 953.00 US dollars.

If they coded a non-custodial tool and are expected to plead guilty, then should for example knife/gun producers be expected to plead guilty, too?
I'd love to know why. Wondering if pleading guilty avoids setting precedent? Any lawyers to clarify on this?
They pled guilty to fighting for a human right
Protocol level privacy or people will keep going to jail.
