though I appreciate they exist, I’ve never used mute or block (which is a false construct).

I never have until Nostr. My client #amethyst handles it really well. It has All Follows, Global and Blocked Muted. I can easily switch between them whenever I want. Sometimes I unblock and unmute people after they calm down. Myself included lol..🤭
Hear me out though: dynamic mute lists with totally customizable parameters, like mute if user posts more than x amount of times within x timeframe, if they use certain words, phrases, or hashtags, or if x amount of your following or followers list has muted them. With the massive bandwidth usage issues, plus issues of finding coherence in feeds, shouldn’t we be heralding every effective possibility to reduce bandwidth and increase coherence? If you’ve ever used antisocial media, you’ve implicitly used an automated block / mute / derank / boost list, designed to glorify and promote psychopathy. We can still use those tools except for empathy and group coherence instead.
I never muted nor blocked anyone on Twitter. But here, bots are spammy asf even on small pleb account like mine, so it's kind of a necessity.
Exactly. Plus muting and blocking are curation tools anyway. They're optional, no one forces you to use them. It's absurd that people are crying for content "moderation" by relays and clients, but are against users curating their own feed.
I have had to block / mute accounts on Nostr that post crypto spam messages or (worse) some very NSFW images.
Well these are some of Nostr's main devs, so I would think they know what relays can do, and want to make them do stuff like that. As if that will help them when the EU comes after them.
Yeah he's against censorship now, but it's a bit fucking late IMO.
Well, if you had muted Musk long time ago, we wouldn’t be here in this mess. Twitter would still be alive, thousands would still have their jobs, threads wouldn’t be around and most of all we wouldn’t be dealing with egomaniac’s tweets about pee pee! 🤣
it isn't wrong to use mute or block but i agree with Jack - block is an illusion. you can't block somebody on the internet. i would get blocked on Twitter then my account would be suspended and i would come back on new account and re-follow all the people who "blocked" me. some of them would block me multiple times as i would lose my Twitter account on average once every year or two. but i knew my ability to create new Twitter accounts would eventually come to the end with Klaus / WEF pushing for the end of anonymity so i just gave up on Twitter and came here.
being on the internet under your real name is pointless - all you can say using your real name is what the overton window allows. thus you can never say anything of value. i am only interested in discussions outside of the overton window.
have you ever thought about object and commodity fetishism and Bitcoin's influence on it?
He might of never used those but he definatly used the ban button on a US president which I think is way worse....... At least we got Nostr now.

OMG. It would be unusable for me without those features.
Pas toute l 'UE mais disons le mien d'où la plupart des lois et textes liberticides sont créés avant de *s' europeenniaser*...

But removing a existing feature without taking a vote from its user (at least verified users who are paying for the product consumption) is not acceptable, tell me one thing if a person is getting spammed by someone appears in the notification section, how do you justify it. @jack just because you don’t use it, it doesn’t mean that other don’t require it, a software service is nothing but a users requirement and you are not fulfilling it. Elon’s product is nothing but dictatorship what Elon wants does matters, no other things matters.

There’s truth in what you say keerthivas, and an example of how our systems/markets have degraded the concept of capitalism. You as the consumer should be winning right now. & it’s a shame that we feel like we’re not. But you’re here, so maybe we are…? 💭

I'm assuming the data is valuable if/when tools are created to 'list posts minus my friend's mutes' or 'review my friend's mutes' for discrepancies'

How do you deal with spam ? And spam bots ? Or bots who post spam about other bots ?
