@miles 🌞 how will this work for me as a customer if i wish to pay in bitcoin? will i have to tell the merchant i want to pay with bitcoin, in similar fashion how they now ask me cash or card? how do i get the bitcoin qr code to show up so that i can scan it?

1) makes me want to start a cafe just to use square
2) makes me thing of the hundreds of merchants I’ve purchased from using square that can now easily use Bitcoin
3) this is theory into action. A base layer fixed supply money, incorporating into a higher layer payments network, the antidote to the circulating credit money
status quo
4) yet another example of how cool it is when incentive is aligned from the base layer, so as owners of a percentage of the bitcoin network, one benefits from the progress and productivity gains of all participants
5) in a week of price action dominated chatter, this under-the-hood building out of infrastructure is a great reminder as to why there are multiple angles that drive Bitcoins value for people

That's exacyly what it is. I tried it at the Bitcoin conference. You scan the QR code and pay with sats on the lightning network.
It's a QR code. If you have the cash app, you can also accept payments with yourusername@cash.app.
At least some people can. I'm mot sure why it doesn't always work. They're probably still testing.
Try sending sats to yourusername@cash.app.
The merchants need to opt in. I think that's fair.

Secondly, if a business decides to accept bitcoin with Square and settled in 100% USD, is that considered a taxable event? Would the "gains" be neutral in that situation since it is instant?
Don't want vendors coming back to me after I show them how to accept bitcoin and complain that they are paying a bunch of extra taxes...

It does say today. It also says starting on November 10th it will be available to all Square users. A bit ambiguous for sure, hopefully it will roll out for you soon
I am not sure this is right. By default, bitcoin is converted instantly to btc, they need to enable not converting to usd and retaining btc
If this is right, the pay in bitcoin option for the customer can still be on by default

We have BTCPayServer and all the millions of Bitcoiners could have helped their brick and mortar stores to setup a running system. Privacy preserving and self-custodial.
