sure, that is a possibility. but there's no reason you can't transfer it to steel after arriving at your destination. anything you bring physically could theoretically get seized, therefore not having anything physical is ideal. it's all tradeoffs; everyone has to find their own balance
First posted this here and on twttr over a year ago.. many tried but so far the sats are still there. ✈️ Possibly a good way to travel with your seed? You need an unforgettable way to decipher it ofc ;) πŸ‘₯ Ideally you would give a copy to a trusted person for redundancy (telling them the decryption cipher as well, or not.. or give half to one person and half to another?) Pretty sure I’ll get shredded for suggesting this πŸ˜‚ Open to comments.. πŸ•΅οΈ It’s worth a lot more now, perhaps someone will crack it! While I don’t want to lose the sats, I would love to know if this method is solid.
That, or just add a passphrase you memorize and carry the seed plain text in two parts.. As always with every aspect of Bitcoin security it’s trade offs all the way down.. Personally I like redundancy, so def two distributed copies .. for example in your suggestion above, I’d give someone else (or at least bury somewhere) the part you carry (obviously not the same person you gave the last X words to :) And yes, for sure burn the seed once funds are moved when you get where you’re going
Memorizing a 12 word seed is very doable for a trip imo. Never in a million years would i trust that over time tho. I have quarterly reminders in my calendar to review my cold storage protocols to ensure me and my benefactors know how to use this stuff and that i don’t forget my pin etc. πŸ§‘πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ»

Question for my friends out there. Let’s say you had to go on a one way trip overseas and needed to safely move your corn. How would you do it in a way that minimizes risk over convenience?

I'd create a new wallet using bip38 encryption, record it in a disposable email account, get to where I'm going, log in to disposable email account, take key, decrypt and move to a fresh wallet
Passphrase is a really important tool in this type of scenario. A passphrase turns an existing seed phrase into a completely different wallet.
