Turns out if you don't like sports, your brain may just be wired to be more independent and less tribal.
I can connect with people on a huge number of subjects because I'm well read and well researched. Sports is just one narrow way of connecting with others and honestly, I think it's one of the least meaningful topics to choose.
Ham radio comes close. Just call out CQ CQ CQ and some rando will come back, tell you about his equipment, location, weather, ask anout yours and wish you well.
