Having lived in Venezuela under Chavez, I know how this ends.
And it’s deeply saddening to know that what I witnessed firsthand there is likely coming to the city I call home.
That said, I feel for the desperate people who think this candidate will make things better for them.
Most don’t know better and just want their pain to end. I can sympathize with that.
I don’t blame these people. I blame the fiat system, as it creates this type of pain by siphoning wealth away from everyday people.
Most of these people don’t have the headspace to understand that #Bitcoin is an antidote to that system, but I believe that, in time, they will.
Until then, candidates like this will propose and maybe even try to execute on “solutions” that history has shown to be ineffective at best and utterly destructive at worst.
Sad times, but things will get better.
We’re making them better.

nothing like a government run bodega 😂
Sad to even think about :/
be a shame if they all burned down.
I get your point, but as a former New York City public school teacher, I can assure you that many people very much believe that free lunches exist. Their kids get them as school every day and they want more of these types of services because they and their family are hurting.
They’ll fail on their own accord in due time.
Fucking commie idiot.
I get that sentiment, and I, too, am frustrated, because you’re right when it comes to those who have the headspace and cognitive capacity to reflect on and reconsider their way of thinking. But there are many in the city who have been trained by its systems (e.g., NYC public schools) in the art of learned helplessness. I blame the institutions that train people to think the way they do more than the people themselves.
The worst thing is that he eliminates the free competitive market and private companies.
Agreed. It’s a vicious cycle and it leads to the decay of society.
It doesn’t eliminate it, but it makes it harder for those entities to exist, yes.
Anything communist will get blocked in Albany. De Blasio only managed to get free pre-K through Albany and even with that they refused to do it via taxes on the rich that de Blasio wanted.
Zoran winning would be an epic gut punch to Cuomo. Zoran is a communist but Cuomo is just horrible on every level.
You might be right. DeBlasio did have a very tough time getting things done from what I remember.
Yeah, I’m by no means cheering for Cuomo either.
Yeah, it's sad. A lot of people in my neighborhood complain about grocery prices. My neighbor said they can't afford to invest with these grocery prices. They're selling their house to move in with family. They have fancy cars, fancy clothes, and fancy toys, but the credit crunch is obvious. The fiat spigot is closing.
I buy extra snacks because some of my son's friends come over just to eat. I assume it's because they don't have snacks at home, but I don't ask.
I've worked part time for most of my life, but my life is awesome. It kind of makes me feel bad for people stuck on the fiat treadmill.
I don't think free food or price controls are the answer, but most people assume the government is benevolant and all-powerful. It's difficult to convince them otherwise.
It's same government makes private companies to bankruptcy. Even if the government does so, it will violate the Antimonopoly Act. They must rely on private companies in a free and competitive market.
Well said, and kudos to you for your generosity.
The classic match and the big flaw in modern democracy

Thanks for sharing. While I agree with you, I’d have to research this act and how it applies in NYC to better respond to you.
Word
socialism doesn’t *have* to end in dictatorship. Everything is a neutral tool depending on who is using it, how they use it, and their reasons for it.
I don’t understand what you’re saying nor the point you’re trying to make.
Everyone gets the government they deserve
Guess we’ll see how many stupid people vote for this guy
Sounds like Karl Marx and I think we know how that story ends
whoa. nyc is in such deep shit
Hopefully, not. Polymarket showing his odds as no longer being very good.
😂 New York is going to find out the hard way.
It doesn't *have* to, but it's *going* to. 😂
I'm sure it will during the next TotallyPeacefulProtest(tm). They don't care. They will just steal more money to build $250,000 worth of store for a cool billion and pocket the remainder.
seems like they’re on that track regardless though doesn’t it? and being the financial hub of the era i guess worth looking to london and Amsterdam as to how they behaved through a transition of world dominance/power to get a more zoomed out perspective. but everything i see from there rarely seems positive. could also just be the skew of internet bias being negative
Looks like he won the primary too
Communists and Socialists never learn
Lololol
New York is fucked
NYC is lost
There is an entire section in the Museum Of Communism in Prague that talks about how this does not work in the long term
Transparency should be key here, and clear targets and metrics on whats attempted to achieve.
Any such endevour based on promises will fail as the temptation to ultimate power is quite challenging
I remember when I lived in Venezuela that this government stores worked fairly well for a short time.
This what actually worries me, other cities will see the short term results and copy this actions.
Just for it to collapse later on.
The damage might become larger than just NYC.

Very well articulated! With government, I am a big fan of solutions that are sustainable and beneficial long-term. Typically, this means no subsidies and very little government intervention. This is a great example of the exact opposite and will result in being worse off.
At least in America these things are mitigated by competition. It sucks to leave for another city, but at least people have that option. It’s a big country, with unimpeded travel between cities and states. So cities and states have to compete for residents.
Contrast this to national boundaries which restrict travel and create captive audiences.
NYC has been in the shitter multiple times and recovered from disaster before. At least we have these smaller examples to show just how horrible plans like this turn out so others have a chance to avoid it.
well, that remains to be seen. Bernie Sanders endorsed him.
I think we've seen it enough to know where it goes. Miss me with that gay shit.
o……k……..
(this sounds like classic stealth troll response)
so, byeeeeeeeeee!
#troll

Nah, you're right. Stinky poopy buttsex is something to be celebrated. 😂
60 million dead bodies later...
America needs to learn.

"A changing world" doesn't imply it's changing for the better. "Progress" isn't, if it doesn't yield practical rewards. In many ways, it's objectively worse than previous civilizational iterations.

You should hate the things that seek to destroy what you love. Weakness is not a virtue.
I'm content, patiently waiting for the birds to come home to roost.
