Never had Twitter. I'm here because I'm a bitcoiner and I wanted to be with other bitcoiners. Or at least people that value freedom.
Twitter has been banned and filtered in my country for ages. Although it gave all the ones who banned it blue ticks! And it is difficult to get a working and safe vpn here
I've never had a Twitter account. It asked for an email address and phone number to sign up. On #Nostr I only generated my nsec/npub key pair.

Twitter suspended me for my below response. Twitter said I could come back when I delete my response. My appeal was 'reviewed' and denied in a total span of 6 minutes from time of submission. This whole experience made me realize how much Twitter is manipulating users' mindsets and perspectives. I'd rather receive no information than support that propaganda machine.
Mostly because there aren't a lot of idiot influencers trying to mislead people to their own benefit. Less hateful speech. Less bots. Less scams. ...
Because it's exciting to see apps being born & be able to give inputs and feedback on the app using the app itself. Also 1. Most users here are not too quick to judge (this can & probably will change )& there's less chances of being mistaken when there's no word limit curtailing context. 2. Self-curation is great, though discovery is a bit limited 3. Has fun bots like @npub1qcha...yzjs & @dave I'm not mad at Twitter as they've chosen their strategy given their beliefs but I found the TL curation to be worse than before for me.

no ads, no algorithm, no unnecessarily angry people yelling at each other
No censorship, no shadowbanning and not propagating some posts over other. If you sum it up, it's basically all different kind of censorship that is not present here.

Because Nostr is the first and only protocol protecting the digital fundamental right(1). Because most of Nostr people want to change the world for good. Because Nostr together with most of Nostr people, can change the world for good. (1) The digital fundamental right protects existence (self sovereign identity), attention, data, intentions (the Internet economy fuel) and off-line life. Constitutional amendment proposal, 2004, Costa Rican Congress, #15890
I have twitter account, but I've never tweeted. Previously i used facebook for years, til I became a privacy fanatic and paranoid) Originally I wanted to see the #nostr technology and protocol. And finally I've found a vivid community. So I'm here now - and can keep my privacy more or less, and happy with the free speech, thanks to this technology 👍 #ilovenostr 🙃
I believe in voting with my money, my time and my attention/data. Nostr has a better value proposition than other options; I value freedom of speech and freedom to transact, and Nostr reflects my values.
It feels more chaotic and random here but in a good way, like walking into a theater in the middle of a weird movie. Twitter is like sitting down and watching the trailers, waiting for the movie to start

I’m here because the variety of what this can become hasn’t entirely started. Participation in its evolution is fun
Because I care about my daughter, family and all of humanity. This is another branch of freedom and when we start linking these freedom branches together we have a chance. ✌️
I want to see it all and make my own choices about how to curate my feed. I want to participate in a community where people default to support, positivity, optimism, and critical thinking. Not one where thoughtless people fight over their preprogrammed positions. I value censorship-resistance. I value value for value. I believe in grass roots technological advancement, not publicly-held corporate LARPing. #Nostr is going to win. There is no second best.
Wow Gigi they all came out of the woodwork to answer that one I'm here cause here its like family on whereas on Twitter you feel isolated nobody listens to ya. Shitter can go to hell in a hand basket. Love all the #Nostrplebs see you tonight at the weekly Friday night #Zapathon 10pm sharp be there or be square 5pm eastern in the US of A ✌️🫂
Twitter? Never heard of it. 😂 In all seriousness Twitter has become toxic and more of a stress inducing experience. While nostr is way more enjoyable to share ideas and grow something much more open and algorithm free.
Simply put, building. I like to build. While I may not be a full fledged software developer, Nostr allowed me to build both some basic services for the community and to help build the actual community too. I love marketing and advertising. I love community building. I love relationship management. I used to be a former entrepreneur and loved doing the relationship building as much as the technical work. I miss that. Nostr allows me to get the best of both of these words and get back into doing things that I love.
I feel twitter as social media has saturated. I am looking for a fresh start and new perspective to how people engage with each other.

I don't like being told what to do, what to like, what to say, and what to believe. I love people, not algos. I love uniqueness, not conformity. I love dreaming, not sleeping. I will never be wealthy/powerful enough to speak my mind without fear of retribution. In the end, freedom of speech is my only weapon.

Nostr is a total throwback to what so many of us all used to LOVE about the internet when we were growing up with it - real connection, fun innovations and most of all, meeting like minded people with similar interests. Twitter, and the other mega-social media corps are all closed systems that all decided to forego the best parts of connecting... instead to prey off our wants, desires and insecurities, feed us siloed conversations and connections and sell us Ads. They commodified an experience at its own detriment. Nostr and open source pushes are fundamental to equal opportunity, freedom and critical thought. #Libertad #NetNeutrality #FOSS #Cypherpunk #Bitcoin View quoted note →
Serendipity! I lost my phone and went cold turkey. Not going back. Please encourage valuable twitter follows to post to Nostr and refuse to feed the AI data funnel known as siloed social media.
On both, but the energy and pace of development on #nostr is ballistically more exciting than Twitter and I'm spending time 💊🟣 as many people as possible there. Native #bitcoin nano thru large payments built into the protocol is one of the most powerful things about it and between the twtr like clients and things like https://highlighter.com, and Nests I think we're witnessing the next sea change in how things are going to be in cyberspace. I can't imagine NOT being here and backing it as hard and in as many ways as I can as well as loving the vibes 💜⚡🤙 image
Because we are witnessing the birth of a new protocol as significant as SMTP. This is a new topology and this brings power to each user. I can post things, you can do whatever you want with it. Freedom at both ends.

Twitter cant decide what its supposed to be and Nostr did. I also dont like spending time around censors and the perpetually fragile.

Kinda happened organically. Didnt even try to leave twitter.
So you experience two blockades both from outside and inside limitations? :( Does that push more people to bitcoin?
Would love to know more about those difficulties (internet, bank blocks, bitcoin purchasr etc). Do you know any good post about iranian reality in regard those topics?
I've left some comments here and there. I know some websites and telegram channels and so, none of the exclusively about this.
Twitter is adversarial whilst Nostr is familial. I was never on Twitter, but I watched from afar as people got plucked out of that platform for sitting outside of the Overton Window which moves every week. Also, the character limit has a stifling effect which just leads to faithless drive-by posting and I saw this salty culture bleed into the Discord servers I'm in. Nostr is a salve. It confers agency unto its users by allowing anyone to build on it and choose relays for whatever features they want. Over here, people can opt in to algorithms instead of being forcibly funnelled through them, and I find that self-sufficiency helps people be more kind to each other. Also, value-for-value is a potent antidote for shitfluencer culture, far less clout-chasing here. We are sovereign, not sheep, and the users drive the discussion. This platform belongs to all of us, like a true public square. I love the ride-or-die Nostriches here 😊🧡💜

Decentralization and identity self custody.
Good question. I mean you are very active here but besides that there is very little content at Nostr since many Bitcoiner (OGs) only brag about Nostr but than are mostly posting on Twitter as usual
Perma ban for not providing a copy of my driver's license. Pretty much just a glitch in the matrix and I lost all my posts and contacts. This is the nature of all services that control your data and social network, there is a good chance you will lose it just because.
Here I follow real-time Bitcoin and Nostr news and developments. That affects more than this new technology, it involves many other areas in life. Thankful for this community and movement. Being part of the startup as a user is exciting.
Intrigued by a few of the responses from your twitter counter-thread: the reason some are on twitter is their want for arguing with others.
