Repost because I'm so proud. Forbes article about Bitchat x Cashu: "The Bitchat-plus-ecash model widens bitcoin’s surface area without tampering with its monetary policy, showing that hard money can be used in contexts where payment speed is important and internet connectivity may or may not be available."

Where my bitchat? 😁 I think this is a MASSIVE WIN for freedom. Thank god for the devs
I get hung up on the technical inaccuracies, but publicity like this is a big win πŸ€™

Is it true that the cashu protocol prohibits creating more ecash than bitcoin that is deposited? So by design it inherits a fixed amount of ecash that can be created if you're using cashu?
No, there's no way to prevent that. I found the article to be imprecise in that point, esp because it later contradicts that point when it says you need to trust the issue to not debase the ecash. Maybe I didn't get it right.
you have the right idea. sending ecash tokens offline does not prevent double spending. it's just as unsafe as getting a bad paper check. any time it looks like there is a hole in ecash where you are not safe or something bad could happen to you, just assume that hole is real. ecash is basically an overhyped toy that requires too much trust.

well done! πŸ‘ and perfect timing for the emergence of bitchat*. I think minimally it has at least given some people hope knowing there are people, developers, organizations, and protocols that offer alternatives to the mainstream, compromised, and centralized corporations' apps that they are used to with data leaks, identity theft, backdoor access to private messages, files, and so on. Privacy will remain a basic human right.
I like the anonymity/ privacy aspect of it. There's a lot of value in that, although you do have to trust the mint. But after hearing so much talk about it I thought someone had come up with a digital, offline bearer instrument. my hopes were too high
What I don't understand with Bitchat is that as long as the app is not constantly opened it can't be used as a node to route the datas right ? So even if many people were actually using it around it would not work ?

Thnx for the recommendation! The network effect is awesomely powerful... will check it out.
Nothing quite that daily/transactional - although I am working on it. It's given us the bucket of funds more quickly than fiat mining ever could. We just got lucky, early.
Yeah been in the states for over 20 years now. Rest of my family are in Southampton and Gloucester. Haven’t been back in a few years, need to make the trip again soon.
