This is the funniest tweet in nostr history 😂

Scary huh?
😂
Freedom’s never been popular. It’s just been right.
If freedom was popular, Ron Paul would have won in 2008.
People want to get on their knees and open their mouth for Central Bank jizz, not freedom.
With freedom comes much personal responsibility...

Identical feeling to seeing every good band in the pick-a-decade.
Yeah, most people want someone else to do the work while they enjoy the fruits of their lab.
It’s kinda pathetic.
Freedom has its drawbacks.
It’s sad. Even some of the people on nostr are statists.
“Screw your freedom!”

There are too many people on nostr now...
There's a few ......
🔥
Sadly, it’s the same as BTC.
Banger.
Hey, don't call me a Nobody! I coulda been a contender!
Yes #yestr
Yes, I like freedom very verrrry much 😶🌫️
Act accordingly…
People hate freedom. They don't want it for themselves and they sure as hell don't want it for others.
A society cucked
This is one of thr most confounding things about nostr to me; the sheer number of boot licking "just one more election and we'll have the right ones in charge" fucking morons.
Free-dumb
True freedom is challenging to cultivate
The world is full of slaves who love their own chains
Guys, we need to vote harder!
Exactly!
I don’t get it. We’re literally on nostr because boot licking doesn’t protect free speech. Maybe a lot of them are feds.
Get out of here fake rand

Maybe. But you know you've seen it too.
I know*
I like it.
And bro, give me a break. People just want apps that HAVE PEOPLE ON THEM. Stop doomering.
I have and it’s frustrating
Freedom to do what
I think people love what is comfortable and convenient.

Freedom tech is addictive, but lonely out here. Lol
Correction: Most people don't understand the importance of freedom
So many come out sooner or later as closet statists.
Lol
Haha 😆 This seems painfully true at the moment. Never underestimate the power of denial and propaganda…
Thy like comfort and the fiat system enables an all inklusive lifestyle without any responsibilities.
I don't know the context of this note but I have some thoughts.
I love freedom but I'm also a realist.
"Lul just stop paying taxes bro" is fedposting at best, naivety at worst.
"Lul just ditch every convenience and dump lots of hours into learning niche tools" is completely impractical.
"Lul if you're not doing x/y/z, you're a statecuck" is immensely elitist and inaccurate.
Those are just a few of the ones that I just don't get.
There's also the fact that the Crowleyan "do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" philosophy is not the same as believing in basic, collaborative, common-good human freedoms (a la the US Constitution); you can be against immorality while still being pro-freedom.
In general, I used to align myself with a libertarian-leaning philosophy until I started realizing it's unrealistic and ineffective, effectively trying to build an impossible la-la land that will never come to fruition. These days, I say I'm a pre-Wilson Constitutionalist politically, and a Christian traditionalist ethically. That means I do align with plenty of libertarian ideals because I believe in the Constitution, but there are also plenty of areas where I strongly disagree. Doesn't make me anti-freedom.
If everyone liked freedom tech everyone will be around here and we all know not everyone are on the same page. Just look at twitter what a mess it become.
Sort of, but Nostr can feel half-hearted. What people say here is very much determined by social proof, and there's a lot of conformity and self-imposed limitations, as well as a preference for a sort of randomness and toothlessness over something more impactful. It can feel like a startup funded by a so-so VC that's trying to cater to conventional tastes, and the result is that it operates in a kind of technological and social straitjacket. Adoption may be slow because others may sense that it's too timid and that there isn't necessarily more energy than they can find elsewhere.
We like freedom
We are not nobody, fren. But, yes, it is odd that so many spposedly freedom loving bitcoin maxis dont love themselves enough to spend their valuably scarce time and energy also supporting Nostr. It is sad for them. But I am proud of us, and thag is all that matters.
PV.
First time since I am on Nostr I see that many likes, and comments. 🚀🎉
Not quite true but well said
People don’t value freedom as much as other things
If everyone else was on Nostr and it had all the conveniences of a FB or tictok I would guess all of your friends would be on Nostr too
Not enough
Nostr provides a kind of freedom, but people define that word differently, and most discover that the freedom nostr provides comes with its own drawbacks.

The grand tradition of LARPatarianism is to keep trying the same thing over and over, expecting greater results.
The formula goes like this:
1) Someone presents a novel idea (e.g. "Hey there's a lot of war going on here. Maybe less?" or "How do you do, fellow nerds, I made this decentralized currency. Please give it a whirl."
2) Idea enjoys small penetration rate
3) Libertarians notice idea is compatible with their value system. Begin propagating idea as THE solution.
4) The libertarian radicalization funnel suddenly appears.
5) Suddenly, the mission isn't about the new idea -- the idea becomes the platform upon which all the nutty libertarian ideas and purity tests are now propagated. In order to adopt new idea, you first have to be subject to hundreds of hours of libertarian free market radicalization -- Austrian economics, praxaelogy, non-agression, "child sex work is akshually a good thing!", etc...etc...
6) New idea now just becomes a recruiting tool for radical libertarianism
7) New idea languishes
The network effect is the only thing that matters. The "alternative social media site" thing has been going on for nearly a decade, and that's the lesson. Address the network effect or you've got a dozen hyper-principled guys talking to each other about Bitcoin.
Oh cmon stop doomering
Also, ppl apparently like a lot of fatal accidents, rage-bate posts and racial slurs judging from the average “for you page”/“timeline” on Twitter 😅
"Nah X, this ain't actually 'for me'."
you are correct, technically he should have said 'decentralization' but 'freedom' has more brand recognition.
and most people will not look up what they don't know and understand (anything unfamiliar). Instead they will ignore it, and focus on what they do know and understand. this is the importance of marketing.
so unfortunately this post would probably not have gotten much engagement if he was semantically accurate. but because he twisted the truth, its reached further.
so the philisophical question is,
be semantically honest and reach no one?
vs
bend the truth, and reach everyone?
Freedom comes with a price. If you're not new here, you know its super toxic in here
Yesh I noticed you just have to ask about a few politically charged topics, like abortion, and they’ll flip that NPC mode switch on
pointing out that something is scary is not doomering 😆
i think you bring up a lot of valid points, but i respectfully disagree. i believe your perspective to be defeatist, and i am by no means an optimist. but before i make that claim, I would have to ask how many hours have put into finding the answers to your questions?
did you look for real world examples of people answering those questions?
i asked, because i have and thats how i ended up on this platform.
first you mention:
'just stop paying taxes'
this is not impractical. My case study is the amish.
the only impracticality is thinking one can sustain the overtly lavish life style filled with hedonism, without opting into the government system. Living a moderately minimal lifestyle can help offset. a small example would be having 1 pair of clothes for formal, casual, and sports. instead of having 10 pairs of jeans, 20 t shirts, 10 shorts, and 8 suits all in different colors and patterns. but i digress.
objectively speaking, as slaves/citizens of a government, there is a bare minimum threshold of money your allowed to make without being penalized. which tells us that the government depending on what country you live in does not want you to make above a certain amount.
but if you do make above a certain amount, your government expects you to spend that money specific places. this is known as tax credits, breaks, cuts, etc. these are incentives the government uses to control your extra capital, because if you are using fiat, it is not your money. (which is why we use bitcoin)
THE FIX
form or find a relatively small community of people producing food, water, and the bare essentials, and establish a trade agreement like a country would.
DO NOT TRade in fiat currency.
but you can trade hard assets like gold, tools, action figures, cars, artwork, instruments, etc.
you can also trade your skills or services.
the overall goal is to make less then 1k dollars a year. if you can do that, you are useless to the government.
but if you use the governments services expect foul play.
'ditch every convenience...dump...hours into learning niche tools'
this is not mandatory. the niche tools are simply for navigating a wicked government. honestly people should be focused on local resource, human and otherwise. True freedom is within walking distance.
however the government wins when you stop supporting local businesses and resources by engaging with super markets, fast food, franchises, cars, big brands etc.
lasty, in regards to being a 'state cuck'
its true. the goal, is to be fully reliant on local resources and then once you are no longer relying on the government, you can step into the greater community to add and extract value.
so i think 'state cuck' is a little inaccurate. its more accurate to say we are 'boomerang kids' or 'dependent adults'
though i understand the sentiment behind 'state cuck' being that the state receives all the benefits while we willingly agree to get nothing. i would say that only applies to people that give up on looking for a way out, and get comfortable with their negative situation. it is in reference to a mind set, not an attack. a cuck willingly submits and does not try to make his situation better. because he has become the warden of his own mind. keeping himself where he believes he belongs.
No, my point is to stop doomering about Nostr. We don't have the killer apps yet, and the network effect is too weak at the moment. It means more time and for the rest of the internet to get worse to push people here.

I want to like Nostr. And from a technical perspective I find it fascinating. Especially how its design makes institutional insertion much more difficult.
From a user perspective, less so. It feels like attending a dinner party where everybody else knows each other, talking about random things, and I’m just observing.
I get the complaint that X generates addictive behaviors. But there’s a middle ground between mostly viral posts and mostly random posts.
I wonder whether “relevant posts” is just something that decentralized platforms have a hard time doing.
The most insufferable are the Trump apologizers and pro-ICE/Palentir police statists. 👅🥾
Agreed. I can’t believe I’m saying this but the libs are much more tolerable. I expected more from the gun owners of this country.

"from a technical perspective I find it fascinating"
I use it only because of its technical properties. In essence, "Nostr" just means to me using public key cryptography to authenticate online, which I think is the correct way to "be" on the internet given the current state of technology.
I had to add some public key infrastructure for replacing lost or stolen keys on top of the base Nostr protocol for it to become genuinely usable. With that in place, I now have a technologically acceptable way of maintaining an online presence. So I'm going to use that.
Oh, that's not what I meant. What's scary is that there are so many people who don't like freedom
Dad joke?
Idk what you're talking about honestly
Oh, the social media ban? Ooohhh. I think there's a lot of people who just don't see social media as that important. They're wrong, but still.
This protocol is still fringe and doesn’t have near the features most long time social media addicts have grown used to, saying nothing about their followers.
Also, if traditional social media works for people, there is even less incentive to dive into something they have no use for and it’s not our place to say they’re wrong.
If they don’t think social media is that important, it’s not our place to say whether they’re right or wrong. Personally, I feel like social media has caused more problems than it has solved and these restrictions on minors are a day late and a dollar short.
Well, parents SHOULD have been the ones to monitor their kids' usage, but, well, that didn't work. So what else is a society that cares to do? I'm sure they see it as a necessary evil. I don't even know what I'd do instead. The way they're doing it probably won't work, and it's a horrible step to require ID for all that, but I agree we needed something a while ago.
I agree. If parents only treated their mobile devices the way they do with their home computer none of would’ve been necessary. So, now the government is stepping in, I just wish they did this 20 years, then we wouldn’t have a whole generation of people who grew up in an echo chamber.
If only the geezers figured out how dangerous the internet could be for people, especially kids bro cmoooooon. They fumbled society lol.
The internet wasn’t the problem, it had been around for quite some time(AOL ring a bell?)and parents were monitoring their kid’s online activity. The problems started when cell phones had full html capabilities, essentially putting the same internet parents were monitoring, in the palm of their hands and if I remember correctly, there weren’t a lot of ways for parents to restrict what they could do.
You must be special to be a freedom enjoyers 🫡
haha whats up with that ay
We agree. I literally meant "how dangerous the internet could be" as in, how it was basically when smartphones came around lol.
Yeah kids shouldn't get everything-rectangles. Adults need to step away from the everything-rectangle regularly too.
Defeatist? By recognizing reality and choosing to spend my time, money and effort on stuff I can actually impact? To prefer creating a sound foundation for my future wife and children rather than risking everything on stuff that would have a negligible impact on the future? No, that's the complete opposite of defeatism. The real way to change the world is to build what you can in your own lifetime and raise your children to carry on the work.
The Amish are an exempt group because they were exempt while the current generation of tax laws were being developed. Good luck legally finding a way for you to enter a similar level of tax exemption... unless you're willing to give up everything and actually become Amish yourself.
The fix you listed is not one that most people can pull off. Sure, you can live in a small town (I'd argue that's ideal and I love my town), you can become self-sufficient to a degree, but unless you're a full-blown farmer (aka. agrarianism), you won't be able to be 100% independent. Point of fact, even farmers rely on some level of outside supply and aid, whether that's from corporations OR the government.
As for not trading in fiat, again: good luck, at least in our lifetime. Most people do not trade in Bitcoin, gold or other hard assets for various reasons. There may yet be a day when they do... again, that's part of why the biggest impact is to raise children the right way to carry on the work and make the world a better place for THEIR children and so forth. However, in our current age, that's extremely unfeasible unless you're living in a commune or are Amish, as you pointed out.
Trading skills/services works in some cases for sure, but not everyone is skilled enough at important things to be able to fully sustain themselves upon that. Making less than $1k/year is a recipe for eternal homelessness.
As for the niche tools part, what I'm saying is that the argument is that the only way to achieve true freedom is to use tools like that or become full-blown agrarian. Again, for the majority of people, this is not an option.
I do, however, agree entirely that it's ideal to support local small businesses and resources. I do that as much as I can but this cuts back to the "don't use fiat" part: I have yet to find a single local business, other than a junk shop, that accepts anything other than fiat.
The "statecuck" part is referring to the argument that some folks make about realists like myself. "You're not agrarian, you're using government money and you're not 100% off the grid so you're a statecuck" is effectivly the argument that many use.
At the end of the day, I just take issue with the idea that we, in our current generation, have the ability to be 100% self-sufficient. It's not defeatism to say that, it's simply an observation of the current state of our world. Again, I am a firm believer that the only way to fix this long-term is to start building things now, raise as many children as we can and teach them the value of what we're doing so that when we're old, we can pass down the torch and then, once we're gone, they'll repeat the process.
The goal is to build a dynasty.
In my eyes, I don't want to live like a 'free' hippie nor do I plan to be an agrarian like the Amish. I respect the Amish (though hippies are gay), but that's absolutely not what most people are called to.
Instead, I'm building a dynasty. I reign as a regent and plan to raise stewards to follow: not a king in wealth, nor in stature, nor immediate political power, but a patriarch of a dynasty of descendants. Stewards of Gondor, so to speak, in the spirit of Faramir.
In Christian terms (as a believer myself), I plan to raise my children in the fear of the Lord, trusting in His salvation and His provision in order to build His Kingdom on earth as much as possible, and to pass that goal down to their descendants. By the end of all things, I will eventually get to see just how much that decision impacted humanity as a whole.
Every man is a king among his own family and household. It's our choice whether we wish to reign wisely or foolishly, and I find it incredibly foolish to throw everything away instead of raising children in the Way.
This is one of several reasons I abandoned libertarianism in favor of pre-Wilson Constitutionalism.
What!? You guys stop that mental wanking.
Freedom, what's that?

New to the platform but so far I agree.
