I had no idea how bad it was until finding out that my friends in Asheville haven't been in contact with anyone since 7:30AM. We suspect they are ok and we know that my best friend is out with the search and rescue crew in the area, but his wife is at home with a small baby without power and hopefully with enough supplies to make it through. But the whole area in Western NC looks awful and we have no idea how long before they can even be reached. I've tried to collect as much as I can quickly for what's going on. Blowing Rock and Boone, NC have been hit seriously bad, we literally go there every year, its one of our favorite places in the world. Chimney Rock has been essentially wiped out and there is still danger of the Lure Lake dam breaking, but so far it seems to have held even though the water is flowing over it. I haven't heard anything new from that and hopefully the biggest danger is past now. My friend's parents are trapped in Black Mountain, NC (not far from Asheville) but we've gotten word from them they the road has been destroyed and they are trying to figure out how to get to my friend's wife and get out, but it seems there are no roads accessible. It's all just an asstounding mess. A lot of these places literally have just one or two roads in and out of them, and it seems like main accesses all over the place have just been decimated. Praying for these guys. There is a gofundme that is specifically regarding efforts in Boone for anyone who wants to donate. If you zap these posts I'll pay it forward to them if you want to use sats. This is from Black Mountain, NC. This is where my friend's parents are stuck. For anyone who has been up there before, apparently Blue Ridge Rd has been completely covered by the Swannanoa River - I don't know if the road is still there.

Hope your friends & their family are okay. Absolutely devastating. My wife & I just went on vacation in Marshall last weekend. Stopped by Lake Lure to visit the rainbow road bridge & fell in love with the place/people. You aren’t lying about the access. It literally is one road through the town. My prayers go out to everyone there. Thanks for the gofundme link. Sending what I can.
Horrible. We’ve had rain nonstop in Nashville for over 48 hours, with flood warnings, but nothing like this.
I have not been able to reach my friends, now I know why. Heard it was bad but this really sucks! Okay, thanks for sharing. Such a wonderful place!

Absolutely wild. Thanks for the update, we’ll be sending lots of good energy that direction.
The amount of water & speed coming down those mountains is completely insane! So massively destructive for "just water"!
Alright, I don't yet know exactly how I'll get donations to them, but my best friend down there works for search and rescue so when i get in touch with him, I'm sure he'll know the best way to get the funds to where they need to go. I threw a wallet together for anyone who wants to donate BTC, and again any zaps will go there as well. 👇🏻👇🏻 bc1qfhm8lftwxrsxu20nnw4fjlz2nksk82zsuzhze72qyp07mtze573qa7r435 View quoted note →
lol, I'll be sure to forward the message. I needed that actually 🤣 Jonathan will get a kick out of it when i tell him. Thanks man 🙏🏻
Would be a truly wild way to raise money for disaster areas actually. Have a disaster team with a “instant launch” communication node and a Ubiquiti with 5KM reach. Throw it up on a 20Ft extension pole, drop the mobile hydro unit somewhere and start mining while providing excess power for people to charge phones, and launch an open WiFi or maybe even just a cell repeater on the network. Legit could save dozens of lives with a setup like that, if it could be quickly deployed.
That's a great idea. Position them ahead of time based on weather forecasts. Maybe you could put a topographical map into an AI and have it spit out the best locations for the setup. Open source the whole thing so plebs can convert their home stack into a hydro miner hotspot. And... These disasters could actually be fun
I would like to see more people displaced in Florida than Lebanon, personally. Any adults in Florida should have left by now
"I'm so sorry to hear about the situation in Asheville and the surrounding areas. It’s heartbreaking to know how much devastation has occurred, especially for your friends and their families. Thank you for sharing the GoFundMe link; it’s important for us to come together and support those in need during this crisis. I’ll definitely spread the word and encourage others to help out as well. Praying for everyone affected and hoping for safe reunions soon. 🙏🏼💔 #CommunitySupport #PrayersForAsheville"
