If you don't have Bitcoin in self-custody, then you are on the wrong side of the wall. (A presentation to treasury company shareholders)

Thank you to Smarter Web & team for inviting me to talk at the first UK Bitcoin Treasuries conference - a superb event🙏 Obviously this is *not* financial advice.
Thanks. I saw the original before. The fact that so many people still think of bitcoin as an investment some other dude needs to hold for them triggers me. It's as if they read the second sentence of the Bitcoin white paper and think. "Satoshi Nakanoto was a smart dude, but forget about what he says about the main benefits of Bitcoin.."
It is the best financial advice, but you aren’t allowed to say that it’s financial advice.. the irony 😔

you're right. but the thing is true self custody is really difficult technically. All the software engineers say its so easy, and sure to them it is. But setting up a home server with a node, then figuring out a desktop wallet, then figuring out something safe like cold, is anything but easy. I would say 98% of average people will never get this far. So then they have other easier options like Bitkey where the data is connected to the icloud, or on an exchange, or a blind signing tangem
If you haven’t seen this yet, take some time and watch this great presentation by @SatmoJoe ”Bounded by the laws of physics Secured by energy Limited in supply absolutely That you can hold yourself Send too and receive from anyone, any time, anywhere.” ⚡️ View quoted note →

are you asking my personal opinion? Yes I think its difficult setting up a start9. Im currently stuck on “trusting my certificate” it says to replace adjective noun with my hosting server name in the terminal command line. I cant figure out what to type into the terminal. Do I cut and paste some other description. how on earth would someone be able to figure this out if all they do on a computer is open an internet browser and search, and navigate through websites image

Exactly - reminding people what they are risking without it makes it more real
Yeah I'm not familiar with these solutions as I've set up a raspberry pi for my node, I thought they were ready to go honestly. I'm sure you can get in touch with their customer support though

yes they have forum where people are constantly discussing troubleshooting and debugging issues. Im trying not gonna give up but its anything but easy. Easy is Bitkey and Tangem for “modified” self custody

I completely disagree. I am almost 60 years old and cannot even figure out the TV remote sometimes. Yet, I run a full node and interact with multiple self generated cold storage wallets. Yes, it took a few dozen hours to learn and get comfortable with my set up. I invested that time (and attention) because I knew it was IMPORTANT. Those who have so little focus or attention that they cannot spend that small amount of time securing their wealth in a self sovereign way, will learn the hard way over and over and over. As they have for all of human history. Rant over 🤪
