Hey new Nostr users that have jumped on Nostr thanks to @Ian Carroll, I'd like to take a moment and blow your mind and show you the power of Nostr. You're probably using Damus or Primal right now. I want you to go and download an app called @Wavlake or @Fountain . You can get either of these on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. They're essentially Spotify but for Nostr. Once you have either one downloaded, you're going to want to "sign in" to this app with your private key or secret key from your Damus or your Primal. This is the long ugly looking string of characters that starts with NSEC. This is like your super secret password that you can never change, so you do want to keep it save and never share it. This key unlocks your identity. Now that you're signed into these apps, you can now comment on songs, boost them, share them, etc. and you'll see that activity in your Damus or Primal. Why? Because it's the same ecosystem and all of these apps work together. How fucking cool is that?

i have been sharing my onboarding notes that has a lot of great information and goes over a lot of these things. but sure, more guides are always welcomed!
i wouldn't go and stick my private key into any and all applications. some are more trusted than others. if you use Android, i would recommend using an application called Amber. it's a private key manager. it holds your key for you so that you don't have to give it to applications. sadly nothing like this exists on iOS. if you use a laptop or desktop, you can use a lot of nostr apps on the web and use a web browser extension to hold your private key and sign into apps that way. it's more secure than entering your key. check out to see what else is offered. i use an extension called Nostr Connect.
in primal, go to settings, and then keys. you'll see your public key which is like your username that you share to other people and then you'll see your private key. that is like your password that you never share to others and you keep safe. don't go sticking it in any and all applications.
you're welcome. try it out and if you have questions, let me know. there are a LOT of other nostr apps. this is just one example πŸ˜‰
Not at the moment! If it’s possible to build an iOS signer, we’ll need people to test the integration at some point, but we’re not there yet.
No, he is suggesting two of many apps that you can try. They all work together since this is an open system that anyone can build on top of. Try @Fountain , I use it everyday for podcasts πŸ™‚
Fountain is great for podcasts and music. You can boost your favorite podcasts with small units of Bitcoin. Fountain has an embedded wallet you can use to fund your boosts. Your identity in Fountain is tied to the same identity used to comment in the Nostr client you're using right now. So if you post something in Fountain, maybe a comment on an episode of your favorite podcast, you can choose to also post that across the Nostr ecosystem. Wavlake is a great place to go to discover new artists, comment, create playlists and provide immediate value to your favorite artists. It's like Spotify except musicians are not getting fractions of a penny for every song played, but direct value from you as the fan.

Why hasn't Wavlake or Fountain implemented nsecbunker sign in or even Amber signer. Why are we still copy/pasting Nsecs?
As time goes on, you will get better at explaining these tips to new users. Very clear and able to understand for them I think. This will help nostr grow πŸ«‚πŸ€žπŸΌ

I’m so stoked. 😭 Decentralized social media is a genius idea and the system is so simple.
a lot of apps do allow you to sign in with your npub, but you can't actually publish or sign any events, it's essentially just read-only at that point.
Meant to add this πŸ˜…

I appreciate you! I will. 🀘🏼
FYI last time I tried Amber on fountain from fresh login and install it didn't work. That was a few weeks ago. Podverse is more my style with self hosted node connection, but SHHH it's not nostr connected (yet)
Its in your settings. One starts with NSEC this is your private key never share this anywhere! The other starts with NPUB this is like your houses public address. You give this to others so they know how to find you. Best way to try and visualize it in your head.

Thank you so much! I’m watching some YouTube videos too. Feeling silly here, but I will figure it out and hopefully add a valuable new voice here too! Thanks again for your kindness
I highly recommend always using a burner when testing new apps. It makes no sense that we don’t have proper key management and delegation at the protocol level and built into the apps we use here every day. Many keys will be lost and compromised as a result.
I have no idea how to navigate this platform and appreciate the info. Can you please explain Damus or Primalβ€” I don’t think I have either of thoseβ€” I signed up on this platform by downloading the app and following the prompts but do not recall either names you shared. What am I missing?
Nostore is great for using your nsec in different web clients. Not that anyone asked. Coinos.io is a good started wallet that isnt as limiting as primal or yakihonne . Pair it with damus or amethyst and yoΓ»re golden

So is this becoming the new MySpace? I sure hope so.
So I didn’t see this before I created a wavlake account. So instead of just signing in, I created a new account. Any suggestions on fixing this so they are linked?
@Derek Ross isn't it a bad idea to just copy/paste? In my understanding, at least on Android, the actual keyboard in use (Google Keyboard for Example) can read the paste buffer? Users should install thrustwothy keyboards bevore copy-pasting sensitive data, always. That also applies to the nostr nsec. #AutoCorrectionStealsYourPasswords #ClipboardsAreNotSafe

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Fountain not being open source sadly is a dealbreaker for me :( Is there any option to support podcasters v4v without the use of proprietary software?

I’m the literal opposite of tech savvy and yes I’m here because of Ian too. I used this app to get on, but have no key etc. image
you definitely have a key. keep digging, I'm sure that app just puts it somewhere clever.
yeah, on android it is best to use @Amber as most apps support it and then you don't end up copy pasting your secrets all around. also, use @Zapstore to install the different apps.

You can't. Burn the "new" one & just sign in with your main nsec. πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ Every #Nostr app can simply use your main nsec; you only want to make a new npub/nsec if you're explicitly creating a new account for a specific purpose like testing or new branding. πŸ€™

Download it! Loving it. Thanks for the recommendation
@Wavlake is the exact opposite of being decentralized. Until they open their app and accept music from ALL the artists publishing, and not just those in their own platform, they will be a problem in the space.
This is very cool I'm new to this platform also. It's still a bit confusing for me but I hope with enough time playing around it'll clear up for me.
