⚡️🎯 NEW - Bitcoin enhancement proposal BIP-177 seeks to redefine Bitcoin's base unit by replacing the "satoshi" (1 BTC = 100,000,000 satoshis) with a new unit called "bitcoin", equivalent to the old satoshi. 1 BTC would thus become 100,000,000 bitcoins. Supporters claim that replacing amounts such as 0.0000123 BTC with 1230 bitcoins would make transactions more understandable for users. What do you think? #asknostr image

If that confuses them, they aren’t ready for Bitcoin. Infinitely divisible means there will always be decimals involved. Basic mathematics are a prerequisite to Bitcoin nevent1qqsg59frezqmv04uj9ax9wpl70zehrpugcjra4ztmm99gv57ydermjqpzemhxue69uhkvet9v3ejumn0wd68ytnzv9hxguhy0zf
Here’s my 2sats, why does BTC need to compete with the meme coin craze? This is all make believe. Virtually inflating supply and virtually dropping the cost per unit in order to just ‘feel good’ about how many coins you hold??? This is the crytpo participation trophy equivalent

Shouldn't we be debating changing from 8 decimal places to 9?

sats is the answer no matter what, why? because, if this is changed people will get lost if we are talking about a coin (Bitcoin), or a fraction of it (sats) imagine changing cents in fiat money to Dollars for example, the chaos that it will create lol

Americans uses the imperial system full of non-sense (as a metric user) but can't put they head around a bitcoin and a sats ...

I like Sats. Calling $1 a Dollar and $.01 a Cent, change cent to Dols. More confusing. Sats sound cool and respect Satoshi. Bits, sounds like a dog food or candy. This must have been envisioned by the fiat system. To divide, confuse, make child like, and waste our energy. Who is with me? 🏄‍♂️
In my language, "Sat" is a slang word, which means male genital. Still I would prefer not to replace "sats" with "bitcoin". That's just stupid.

I don't know why this is so complicated. The name change solves nothing. It just renames something and then creates another layer of confusion. It's so obvious. I don't... I'm struggling... I'm struggling with this one. Just tell people that sats are the smallest denomination of Bitcoin. Like a penny. So easy.
The sooner the proponents of this fuck off the better.

Oof, kinda a ridiculous idea imo. We don't really need to stop calling them satoshis. It's actually a very good thing that they're called satoshis as we're still so early. People who don't know about Bitcoin talk about it in terms of bitcoin like 0.001 BTC. People who have actually researched and done their homework on Bitcoin know that it's way easier to talk about things in terms of satoshis. It's actually a good early adoption "litmus test" to see if someone knows the basics of Bitcoin. If someone doesn't know what a "sat" or "satoshi" is in context to Bitcoin, it's likely that they don't know a whole lot about Bitcoin. This is just one utility of the word we use for the unit. Don't try to "fix" something that isn't broken. 🤦‍♂️
Bad idea, we already have smaller units of Bitcoin, namele bits and sats, 100 stats = 1 bit = 0.000001 BTC
