nostr seems to have a bit of an identity crisis from time to time. im sure there's a joke here since many people, including myself, like to boast about nostr's portable digital identity. anyways, nostr seems to be hanging out in the discovery phase for an extra long while, building, lurking in the shadows... there is plenty of work to be done with growth, onboarding, and community building. find your flock and push forward.

I don’t think we have an identity crisis because Nostr is what you want it to be - can build so many different experiences for so many different types of uses and audiences. It’s a protocol so it makes sense that it can be used for many things.

the similarity between the adoption curve of nostr and Bitcoin is telling in my mind; people will adopt it when they realise that they need it Though, the flip side to this is that without Bitcoin's sexy NGU-tech, mainstream marketing campaign, will nostr catch on the same way? It's still possible, because no one trusts the news anyways, and real Bitcoiners are rarely brought in through the media "roller coaster report" pipeline.

Those seem to be the people who are unaware of the other stuff or have no use for it

As a matter of fact, I am planning to make a short introduction video and a few youtube shorts targetting Indian audience in my native languages - #Malayalam and #Tamil. Another reason is, we have better FOSS traction too.
Yea unless mainstream social media begin adopting zaps, I don’t see a way that Nostr doesn’t grow alongside the inevitable growth of bitcoin. Its the number one tool in each others toolbelt
I do too. It would be easier and safer for users. Having a Nostr login needs to be an option for every FOSS app. There's almost no reason why some junior developer looking to make their mark couldn't submit a PR to 100 projects out there. That would be a mission.

Scholars in science and technology studies call this ~interpretative flexibility~ this means that a technology’s design, development, and use are not fixed. Instead, they are shaped by different groups, like engineers and users, who interpret it in their own ways based on their needs. These different interpretations can change how the technology evolves. While most technologies evolve this way, Nostr is different. The discussions are open to everyone, and anyone can interpret it however they want, which makes it unique and amazing.
That's possible. A lot of our devs move from project to project very quickly leaving previous ones at 85% complete, but the user experience lies within that last 15%.

Nostr has yet to explain what the ”Big Mario” *actually* is. Nostr is still experimenting with different products in its ”Small Mario” phase. But once the ”Big Mario” emerges organically, it will become evident that it is not just a new social media which happens to be decentralized. image

It’s natural for a project in its early stages to go through an identity crisis. But the key is consistency and vision. Nostr has the potential to grow into something unique, and with the right community and development focus, it will carve out its space. The challenge is in the execution, and that’s where we all come in. Hi derek 🤟⚡️💜🏴‍☠️

It is pretty murky, I agree. There are a series of ethical standards that are too ambiguous and exploited which lends to serious credibility concerns and long-term foundational aspects. Skeptic, putting in effort to not become cynical. ✌️⚡🧠

IDENTITY CRISIS IMPLIES AN INDIVIDUAL IN NEED OF PSYCHOLOGICAL INTEGRATION NOSTR IS NOT AN INDIVIDUAL TO IDENTIFY?! LABELING?!? COLLECTIVIZING!!??!! WE ARE AS WE ARE, FLOATING AMONG GUITOOL, ASCII, AND A QUILT OF CERTIFICATION AUTHORITIES, REGULATORS WITH REGULATIONS ON ONE HAND AND ENFORCERMENT ON THE OTHER, AND MEMES WE SCULPT OUR SELVES OVER TIME, HONED BY EACH GM AND GFY IN THE ETERNAL ABYSS BUT WE STAND! OH WE STAND. STAND AS INDIVIDUALS, NO MAN IS AN NPUB, NO NPUB IS A MAN, AND NO TWO NPUBS HATH THE AUTHORITY BEYOND ANY ONE. BUT EXPERIENCE HATH SHEWN, OUR IDENTITIES, WE OWN. EXPERIENCE HATH SHEWN, MOTHERFUCKER!
