This is rad!
No plans, I just made it work with the materials I had and based the dimensions roughly on this: Basically build a box roughly that size, come up with some way to make a door on it that has ability to control airflow, then come up with some trays. Cut a hole so the fan of the miner fits in there. If you have a more powerful miner then you can make a bigger box and add more trays.
Ooh I want to dry some mushrooms with a bitcoin miner. These heater projects and the like are so awesome!

this is so dreamy! What's better- this dehydrator or the hashtag #doublespendenergy ? Obviously the dehydrator is-but I love it all. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ
Permaculture weaves homestead activities into multi-yeilding workflows Purple dead nettle was taking over the garlic bed so I weeded it. Instead of throwing the nettles in the compost pile I harvested the flowers to dehydrate into antihistamine tea to help with my springrime allergies. (Using an S9 Bitcoin miner as the heat and airflow for the dehydrator box) image I tossed all the nettle stems and other weeds into the rabbit colony as a snack for the bunnies. image The yields from this workflow: weeded garlic for improved future yeild, dehydrated nettle for tea, mined Bitcoin, fed rabbits. #plebminer #homemining #bitcoinmining #bitcoin #mining #homesteading #permaculture #permies #grownostr #doublespendebenergy #naturalremedy #foraging #nettle #purpledeadnettle #gardening #garlic #stackingfunctions #dehydrator View quoted note โ†’
Keeping the Bitcoin mining dehydrator full and always running is turning out to be easier than I expected! Comfrey is currently drying and the rabbits enjoying the stems. Before the comfrey, I did a batch of aloe vera from our great over grown house plants. Strawberries keep coming, trying a different way to dehydrate (sold some for sats at the local Bitcoin meetup too!) image I used whole strawberries for the last batch in the Bitcoin mining dehydrator which took 3 days to complete. Now, I'm trying a batch with them cut in half. There is definitely a trade off between time spent prepping and processing to decrease dehydration time and just shoving stuff in the box and letting it run. Because I'm also mining Bitcoin I'm hyper aware of the energy cost to run the dehydrator. image We have been eating strawberries with everything! Strawberry yogurt, strawberry banana bread, fresh strawberries, strawberry ice cream. Pretty soon we are going to be tired of strawberries and start focusing on preservation instead of gobbling them up. Ended up selling some at the local Bitcoin meetup for sats too! Elderberry flower in the Bitcoin mining dehydrator Every year I want to harvest elderberry flower, it smells so delicious, but I always miss my chance because there is no way for me to find time to do anything with it. Now that I can dry it in the Bitcoin mining dehydrator I finally went out and harvested some. I'm looking forward to trying this as an ingredient in sheep's milk ice cream and peach cider too. Volunteer dill in the bitcoin mining dehydrator image Grew a good patch of dill last season which we used fresh to make pickles. Amazing. Imagine how quickly you could dehydrate windfall apples-to preserve them for winter. Most people core them and slice them into rings and hang on string to dry them out for days-making fruit leather too-WoW!
Smokeable skullcap in the Bitcoin mining dehydrator image I've been enjoying smoking mullein so I started wondering what else might be good to smoke growing around the homestead. After so quick research, I kept seeing a plant called skullcap in the herbal smoke blends. image I thought to myself, too bad I don't have any of that growing around here. Then I realized, I don't even know what it is or what it looked like. After looking at some pictures of skullcap, I couldn't recall seeing it growing anywhere on the homestead. Then, when I was picking up sheep fences near the pond I noticed a plant that I had seen before but never knew what it was. It was skullcap! image I'm excited to have learned a new plant and found it so quickly out in the wild. Harvesting elderberry before the birds eat it all It's been busy around the homestead and sometimes yields can slip through our fingers. The elderberry has been ready to pick for several days now but not had time to harvest. Today I made sure to get at least enough for a load in the Bitcoin mining dehydrator. Yes, an S9 is an excellent dehydrator. Simply build a box roughly the same size as other 1000w dehydrators and cut a hole to fit the exhaust fan of the Asics. I've been using the one I made for many months now with great success. I have not tried meat yet. Biltong should work just fine though because it doesn't require the higher temperatures that is recommended for other kinds of dried meats. View quoted note โ†’ View quoted note โ†’
This is super inspiring to me. Thanks for sharing your creativity and processes. Do you have to rotate the trays occasionally to distribute the heat evenly over the fruit?

One year ago I recorded a podcast with @Ungovernable Misfits talking permaculture and bitcoin in general. This clip is a good summary of my high level thoughts on Permaculture and Bitcoin and was basically the ideal I was working towards throughout the year. View quoted note โ†’ The podcast as a whole provides a good reference point for a lot of what has happened on the homestead over the last year. I'm not sure why I thought to detail so many of my plans for the year, maybe hold myself accountable. All in all, I was able to accomplish almost everything I mentioned throughout the podcast in the last year. Take a listen and check out this year in review mega note. February was defined by maple syrup production, the threads aren't as cohesive as I was still learning Nostr and developing my style. View quoted note โ†’ March the highlight was working on the 20ft tiny house, still haven't quite figured out Nostr. View quoted note โ†’ April was marked the completion of the Bitcoin mining dehydrator, one of highlights of the whole year for the homestead. View quoted note โ†’ May was the sweet spot of sunlight and waning colder temperatures which lead to lots of pleb mining at the homestead. The solar power was flowing and the dehydrator was constantly loaded. The cold frame was growing cannabis and the portable S9 space heater was saving lambs from hypothermia. View quoted note โ†’ June the sheep were grazing the pasture at it's finest and the yurt was booked solid with guests View quoted note โ†’ July the bitcoin mining clothes dryer was completed in the peak of the summer tourist season. A project I have been thinking about and working towards for over 6 months. I will be making improvements to this Bitcoin mining dehydrator design, hopefully soon, that will utilize an S19 hashboard running on 110v. Going from 75j/th at best to better than 29j/th. I had the dehydrator running most days from spring to winter last year. I'm about to fire it up again.

Something you have to strongly consider is that you are using machines that have components such as lead from the chips and BPA from the plastic. Running an exhaust directly over elderberry which is commonly used in medical applications. Is going to directly contaminant your food with these deadly and cancer causing materials. As they are heated up, especially to higher temps, this will become insanely dangerous to consume from chemical vapors leaching out. Then blown and continuously circulated through food. For the love of god don't eat any of this! You may die or become very sick. If you don't believe me get your food tested from a lab for contaminants. Please, I'm being genuine and very serious here trying to save your life.
It really depends on how hot your rig gets. It doesn't take much heat for the BPA to leach out. If you take a sniff and the air smells like hot plastic, bingo that should be listed as a food ingredient now due to how much has leached into your food. While this wouldn't give you cancer over night it certainly would drastically increase the likelyhood the longer it is consumed. My biggest worry would be whatever industrial chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Who the fuck knows what else is leaching into the food. Either way holy fuck dude get it tested immediately. While this is a very innovative it is right up there with strapping a rocket to my back and trying to break the sound barrier on roller blades. This is wildly dangerous to your health and anyone who dares to consume it.
I'll see what I can find out. Do you have any resources on airborne contaminants from electronics? I wonder if there is higher or lower potential of contaminants due to age? Maybe most of the bad stuff has already burned off? Maybe as it gets older the components degrade and release more contaminants.
Oh I forgot to mention. If the wood that was used in this machine was made with anything but just plain heat treated wood. Any glue, pesticides, fungicides, or materials used in processing the wood. Will also leach out into the food when it is heated up. So there is that too which needs to be strongly considered. Overall I applaud you on your idea. Now please, I'm begging you, retire it. Stop processing your food immediately and get it tested. For chemicals and heavy metal toxicity. You might even be able to genuinely ask the nostr community for help via zaps. That can pay for lab testing, or a food safe dehydrateor. If you need help.
What do you think would absorb the most contaminants? Something wet and gooey? I did some aloe vera a while back. There is a lab not far from my house and I get food tested there from time to time along with my water. While the tests aren't cheap, they aren't expensive either, I think it would be interesting to bring something in and see what's there. I know they can test for heavy metals, I wonder about bpas. I guess I could just describe what I'm doing and see what there recommend to test for.
No. It will not burn off completely. As long as the materials exist they will continue to leach contaminants into your food. Unfortunately I am not the type of person to keep bookmarks and links to resources I've read. If the subject matter interests you. Then I highly encourage you to self verify. Just know it is a deep dark rabbit hole to climb down. You will never look at normal every day household items the same again if you dig too deep. Do the right thing, play it safe. You only have one body and you shouldn't gamble with your health. Especially with something so genuinely dangerous to it. I'm just one guy who knows thjngs, just had sex, about to go to bed, and I'm trying to save a life of someone I've never met. Just, because I am a hero at heart. Take care, stay amazing, and have a wonderful evening.
