I want to know what changed with Zuck. Used to not be able to stand him but he has been saying and doing things lately which I've grown to respect.
I think it will be better to live in a world where AI is widely deployed so that smaller actors can check the power of larger bad actors.
I'm here because I don't want anything to do with FB or Zucky. I don't care about that puppet.

they use open source to get as much from people then they close it, why not give the right to use the code too ? open source does not mean its free to use, just open to see it and might help to build it !
Thats pretty cool. As soon as we stop collecting our patient data on paper, we might be able to train an AI... In like 5 years. Welcome to Germany -.-

Wish list just dropped. localisation is great. A lot of corporations are rushing towards llm adoption through microsoft (their localisation is a few tens of a thousand annually if i am not mistaken). Reminded me of your italian talk on why the giants keep getting bigger and the danger to it. I guess one step further might be in isolating ownership, esp for customers who leverage the tech, maybe end to end encryption or de-identifying data idk. It might prevent customer’s data leakage or for the business owner to be put in a position to hand it to the govt when they come knocking.
It’s not altruism. Companies like Meta and Google made their fortunes by processing data and curating it for their audience. These open source models will be used in all sorts of applications and therefore Meta will continue to shape society with them. It also makes it nearly impossible for some startup to raise money to compete since these models are hard to compete with. “Commoditize your complement” as Joel Spolsky calls it.

he is commoditizing the layer to hurt others. 3 other big player probably spent hundreds of millions. by spending a smaller amount he is hurting 3 big ones. ultimately small players gain. i may switch to 3.1 from 3. right now Ostrich 70B is based on 3. but i have to first check how much disinformation is in 3.1. for that i have to check truthfulQA and also run some tests. need i say truthfulQA is not that truthful 🤦‍♂️
Great read. Thanks for sharing. Although I am not a coder, it thrills me that even CEOs of big tech companies promote open source today.

there was an interesting idea on this topic, but somehow it passed everyone by... note14mrcpw0gxyq7f0p65wdn8x7y58mkv5ax60p2wysp4v6nwt5wa5gqqkml6w
deserving of so much kudos! humanity loves a good comeback story. we’re so good at learning from previous experiences and iterating and improving.
