For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents. This is so wasteful! I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies. Let's rip the waste out of our great nations budget, even if it's a penny at a time.

Uhhh, how can we pay for odd prices in cash without pennies??
And for gods sake, it's because you guys have stolen from us for 50 years.
Obviously don’t want a trend starting where physical cash is phased out. But pennies are useless and cost more to produce than they are worth.
you round up. always in the vendors favor
Haha. Pass.
I use pennies every single day.
With inflation putting us where we are I just don’t see the utility. It’s less than 1/1000th of an average lunch out.
Good we don't need pennies anymore.
The future is digital money.
The future is Bitcoin.
Because.....taxes. Sales tax and use fees are % based. You need pennies.
Understood. But you can still use cash/coins of higher value. Looks like no other countries have a 0.01 unit because their currencies all suck and made it impractical. Ours was just the latest to suck.
Not really, then you would be giving away money, as they wouldn't be able to give you change.
We are a base 100 cent system and the global reserve.
He's not getting rid of pennies, rather not making them any more.
I'm honestly not sure about the laws. He very well be required by law to maintain XX % of pennies in circulation.
Relax, there are 250 billion pennies in circulation. We wouldn't run out in your lifetime.
Highly doubtful. I'd say a good half are lost, another quarter are in penny and tip jars, and another 20% are in couches and ashtrays, 😂
You could just make pennies valuable again by reducing the money supply, dumbass

Switching from base 100 to base 20 (nickles) would essentially be admitting that the dollar has lost 80% of its purchasing power.
Exactly.
Your penny ain’t shit.
Abolishing cash (starting with the penny for example) is precisely what the UN and WEF want.
The UN has said they have all countries on board to abolish cash by 2030, with each country replacing cash with a digital currency, any digital currency. They don't care what type of digital currency.
All most countries have to do is eliminate cash because the digital swipe or tap-to-pay debit cards are digital currency already. The system is already in place.
