Iโ€™m super down for a whole week every zap sent to you can go towards the campaign and we can have like a way to show maybe a target and how the progress bar fills up with every zap and would be cool if it could be in leaderboard style too and show the text attached to the zap.. maybe i can vibecode this or you can? A simple webpage with the ability to zap you as well
ahh I think Iโ€™d disagree n say itโ€™s more achievable than you might think and growth for wisp is growth for nostr and bitcoin as a whole, these people are are looking for a way to monetize their content and telling them they keep 100% of it would be a game changer, currently tiktok takes 50% from live streamers in the form of their tokens which are valued 50% once theyโ€™re bought and sent through gifts. Theyโ€™re also tired of censorship theyโ€™re constantly having to censor themselves on stream, content posted and comments, finding new slang to bypass this. If the ads were to target pain points and be strategically deployed to the correct audience it could totally make a dent, it has the potential to go viral, in my mind at least. I could be completely wrong but idk what Iโ€™m not seeing in order for that to be the case..

Why am I rock hard right now? Oh yeah. Because this is the best client I've ever used ๐Ÿ’ช
Run ads on Wisp. Thereโ€™s a 99% chance TikTok would shadowban such a project that goes against the doom scroll, attention harvesting culture. Ads on Wisp could be placed on the top and bottom of articles, in the feed etc. I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s any other way to monetize a free app without harvesting and selling data. Create a quasi Signal/Facebook approach. Donโ€™t collect user info, collect pseudonym info to position ads. Thinking out loud.
Then fork, remove ads, why would I want open source application to have ads? I'm not sure if that's the way, I'd add an invite me a coffee thing that allows users to send directly to the developers or something like that but ads idk
Donations arenโ€™t scalable. Ads are a model that works and is scalable., theyโ€™re also very productive. The problem with ads has been the privacy aspect. Placement could be categorized by using something similar to how Plausible tracks session data - no visible kyc aspect. The criteria doesnโ€™t have to be for fiat like products it could be for genuinely profitable bitcoin/ freedom tech products. If we keep using the throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks model, itโ€™s going to be gimmicky. Hardcore ad haters can fork โ€”> definitely a feature not a bug.
Idk Amethyst has exactly that model as far as I know, zap this release aka donation. I understand can be less scalable indeed but not every user will know how to fork or find the fork done by someone else and have to trust it. But I understand your point yes, then allow users to enable/disable ads for support? That could be a midterm and many users won't even go settings and see it ๐Ÿ˜‚ Not that I hate ads, but if I can run my relay, clients are open source, I feel it a bit off to force ads but just my vision ofc, and bitcoin products/tech ads sounds good
Not everybody who uses social media wants to run a relay or knows how to. Iโ€™m not sure if this is possible but could a relay be incentivized to show ads as a way to monetize it? Yeah an option to enable/disable ads would be cool. Most wonโ€™t even be bothered and will be looking to spend.
Yeah the option feels just right, let the user decide and most will keep them on. The relay option I'm not sure either, problem is a client can choose to display or not what receives from the relay, no way to ensure the ad is actually seen ๐Ÿค” Maybe just the fact that the relay is correctly resharing the ad every X events/time is enough as a service tho.
This is one reason I think attracting existing users is just as important as attracting new users. Word of mouth and the fact that some of us have invested a lot of ourselves here. Many of us will be here for the new users. That's worth more than the chump sats you'd raise, in my opinion.
Iโ€™ve seen some excellent mobile app ads made with Seedance 2.0 lately. Prompt with a picture of the influencer(s), the little Wisp mascot, the website copy, and some app screens
