my original goal was 52 books this year, but i’m so far ahead i’m switching the goal to 100. a tip for comprehension and retention: upload a screenshot of everything you’ve read to your favorite ai and ask it to periodically discuss/quiz topics in the books with you. image

it’s just apple books app
What a great idea! I have the goal of a book each month. I write a little summary in my blog to remember them and keep the progress on them. Seeing your progress is very encouraging.

guess when you are a billionaire you can just afford to kick it and read books 📚. Super cool . I've only had time for 6 chapters of the one book I could buy this year 😸

🤔 ❓ How does uploading (only) a screenshot to AI provide the capability to discuss it properly then... I don't get it.

What speed do you read at good sir? Most often 1.2x myself, occasionally 1.5x

I’m slightly under yours. Working on eye-brain focus, visual reading and audio binaural to increase nonfiction speed >500wpm. Fiction eases into flow state. Reading hits alpha state, some who dedicated +/- 3 hrs a day reading - Benjamin Franklin, Queen Elizabeth 1, Leonardo Da Vincci, Einstein. Roosevelt read 1-3 books a day while in office.
> a tip for comprehension and retention A really good idea. I actually noticed that sometime my retention is low, and this can definitely spot gray areas. I have to inspect also how time of reading affects this.
An other good possibility to remember better is, to have some people, whom you can tell the stories of the books. Like this they can profit from a good summary. And I can profit from going through again.
How do you find and plan what to read next? Reading is one thing, but finding/choosing another. Goodreads/kindle give me pretty terrible recommendations usually.

Maybe a book cover image provides deeper context than just the book title in text form? The AI should recognise the book cover image and base the chat on its trained knowledge of the book's contents and related concepts. Is there a good first prompt?

You reading all of these with your eyes? Or ears? These days I just do audio books on 1.75 or so. The ability to understand what’s being said doesn’t change but the rate of learning sure does

I’ve been doing this as well. I call it my book club and for some reason it causes my partner a bit of jealousy between me and ChatGPT. 🙃 It does really help to dive into different topics and relate them to your life. *I ask ChatGPT to take the role of both the author and book club facilitator.
My goal was at least 10 books this year, but with a baby it's quite tricky and there's usually not that much attention/willpower capacity left.
Do you have a set time you read before checking screens? I'm experimenting with leaving the house with only a book (no phone) and finding that I'm reading much more that way
Audiobooks, though do have questions regarding whether having an earbud in affects child development or anything like that. Or just listen in clear

If I may suggest a book (although published a couple of years ago), which really moved me a lot and opened up new perspectives on history: The Last Kings of Shanghai.

You should also feed Ai the books you have been reading and ask it for new recommendations based off your interests.

This tip is excellent, helps me remember well. My speed is not great for nonfiction as I’m more of a visual-dominant reader. Had likely 1.5 months headstart compared to @jack this year, so abt 40% slower. But good motivation to try and keep up. Btw seeing emoji reactions on primal. Are these new on Nostr ?
> Btw seeing emoji reactions on primal. Are these new on Nostr ? They always existed (kind:7 doesn't accept only + and -), but I suspect Primal used to support only a subset.

The Sovereign Individual should be your Top Priority if you have not already read it.
