A NEW WAY TO CONNECT - COMING SOON
Empowering collaborative knowledge sharing and discussing web content freely
Why it matters?:
While the Web is expansive, apart from social media, individuals are isolated and disconnected.
Envision a scenario where we integrate a social layer directly onto every website, fostering connections.
Here, people can effortlessly exchange knowledge, pose questions, and engage in discussions with one another about that website/topic.
How it works?:
- Install the browser extension, an app icon displayed on every web page.
- Open app to initiate discussions with others.
- Share questions, express your viewpoints, or explore what others are saying.
- Easily toggle between page view and domain view. Read posts across all pages in the same domain or focus on this specific page.
Seeking assistance with:
Name of the app (extension). Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated!

Install extension, and start connecting people.

View content by pages.

Reply. Likes. Or a new post.

Toggle between page and global view.

More screenshots. Let chat about news, music, games… directly on the web.

Yes, a parallel comment section for every page on the internet is a good explanation for this spec.
I will first try to get it right in Nostur, and then I will try to do it as a WordPress plug-in. Hopefully by then someone will have already built a browser extension or I can give it a shot.

Hey! Regular kind 1, thus new posts are share on other clients with links attached so others can join in the conversations.
URLs in “r” tag.
Featuring
@Derek Ross in app demo
hhh, i had this idea two years ago but no one invest it
#NostReport 🫶🏻
Oh damn. I will carefully write the description to be something very neutral and not sensitive. Let’s see.
Sounds great - I'm following you now sir
and thanks
@idsera for sharing
Isso é muito interessante e algo que sempre quis ver no Nostr. Imagina estar em uma página e automaticamente poder comentar e ver comentários relacionados a essa url específica. E isso tudo aberto.
They will look like out of context posts in other clients or do you have a different solution for that?
If you make them a kind 1 reply to kind 443 then people will see that they are replies or comments on a website and also they won’t be mixed up with other kind 1 that are just mentioning the url with “r”.
Finally! Been waiting for a Nostr version of the Dissenter extension =3
Name suggestion that doesn't end with -str:
Atom
Idea: The nucleus is Nostr, the neuros and protos would represent the relays or clients. The electrons represents the websites/pages. Nostr connecting the people across all websites and pages on the internet. Atom.
"Download and install the Atom extension in your browser.
Comment everywhere. Discuss anywhere."
Thank you for name suggestions!
The old features are the new features.
Gab had this, and they were not the first one to invent it.

Full urls or just partials? Do you add fragments and search queries in the r tag?
Yeah need to avoid out of context posts
Looking forward to have true discussions in every single page in the web.

@petri do you think an open protocol in nostr stands a chance at not getting censored by the GUULAGL?
Maybe
@Alex Gleason has insight on this
Damn this is pretty cool.

This is looking really interesting.
Maybe stay away from nostr terminology in the description? Plebs will know what's up without it.
Use their coded language against them in this case.
Call ot "Strapp" short for NostrApp, or "Strex," short for Nostr browser extension? Anyway, good idea!
Creio que teve algo parecido uns 20 anos atrás e chamava Third Voice mas não foi para frente por várias razões... Principalmente por ter muito spam

I will definitely run though the description with yall first.
I was wondering about this sort of thing too, in regards to eg YouTube videos with comments turned off, especially with news outlets
Call it Satcom. Short for satellite communications, its a futuristic sounding word that conveys communication through a meta layer of our atmosphere, which could be symbolic of the meta layer of communication that nostr provides around webpages. Lots of domains available.
Here's some logo inspiration:

Wonderful project! I looking forward to using it!
oh never heard of Dissenter, seems like it got removed for 'violations'. hmm
@npub1alph...6dsn is there any way to transpose this app from a user installed extension, to an ez-mode plugin for website developers?
This would eliminate:
1) need for user install
2) extension store censorship (see gab dissenter ban by chrome, mozilla)
👀
For extensions, users can unpack it with a few clicks to add into their browser even without going through their stores. But will definitely try to write a neutral description to pass the screening.
For plugin for web devs will be a very different approach, as this product idea is allow us to discuss content on New York Times, Apple.com, on any websites.
Please dont call it atom, there is already a rss like web spec with that name:
RFC 4287: The Atom Syndication Format
This is cool, I wanted to do something similar with zapthreads on an extension. I really hope it works, it's very difficult to make users install extensions that don't solve acute problems
💯agree apple, yt will not add this. Smaller sites would be first. Perhaps extension complements the website dev approach.
On the description, consider adding that nostr is a FOSS protocol, and is not run by any single company.
Sim, sempre existiu essas iniciativas mas agora acho que é a primeira vez que está sendo implementado usando um protocolo aberto. Sobre spam, também tenho curiosidade em saber irão lidar com isso.
Well, I’ll certainly avoid words like censorship resistance, freedom of speech.
Will run though the screening description with yall.
I suggest hash of some normalized version of the URL or you run into privacy issues. People won't use the extension if it tells relays all the pages they are visiting. Even with hashing, people will quickly learn the hash of pornhub but at least you won't leak any credentials that are encoded in the url.
Smart 👆
Maybe we need a NIP to define what to hash.
Gpt prompt: “write me a nostr summary for the mozilla extension store that is in line with mozilla’s terms of service, and will not offend anyone in silicon valley. Do not mention censorship resistance, freedom of speech, zaps, or any other concepts that might trigger the censorship class, and the extension store bureaucrats.”
I would suggest to auto-fill some first line in the first replies to websites. Something to give context. And a link to the extension, too. Both can be stripped out easily when using the plugin but other clients would get context.

I bet chatgpt is helpful here. The idea of this chat plugin is not new. rbutr and dissenter did it before. It never caught on I guess. With nostr, the comments will leak into social clients and if done right, help both in a feedback loop.
A good question.
If it’s irrelevant it can avoid but might be the case of deplatforming some of the nostr apps/tools depending on what happens and whether something is targeted for it:

Gab (social network) - Wikipedia
How much that may affect the whole nostr remains to be seen in that case.
Relays and apps will see push back if nostr becomes more mainstream.
It has kind of some web.hypothes.is vibes.
Thanks for sharing. These copy will be useful for writing the description.
🫶🏻
Will definitely provide GitHub and zip package to try out.
想象一下在所有精选评论底下,或禁评页面下,你都可以用Nostr ID和他人讨论

Yaaaaassssssss. 😍
I’ll share GitHub repo and package it this week, for community to try it out and for app name & description discussion before going for Chrome store submission.
Hope to get you to try it out.
I missed this last week. Got cha this time. Love it. I’m adding to candidate.
