re: his point on retention. It is true that most people do not stick around. It’s sad that “make people addicted to your app“ by pumping retention is the standard of success. My main goal is to just build tools that people find useful and gives them freedom in ways to communicate that don’t “go down” or get censored. Maybe most people don’t need or want this solution right now. Maybe elons vision of free speech is “good enough” for most people. Some things are just out of our control, what we can focus on as nostr devs is continuing to polish our solutions and be ready for when we are needed.

You are doing great 🤙 Manz people (luckily) never get into a situation where free speech is so heavily restricted that it actually hurts them. For those who seek an alternative, nostr is the place to be 💜
He knows only too well where we’re going with nostr , he’s just milking sheep while he can, keep refining 🫂💜
Until people need nostr it will be niche. Easiest (not easy) solution is to build tiktok like client. Super simple with algos to choose from. Expensive tho, because new people wouldn’t pay for uploads. One algo that would make people stick around would be feed based on MOST ZAPPED- videos - an incentive to post engaging content.
Hell the vast majority of people haven’t figured out what they need Bitcoin for. We’re living WAY in the future. If Bitcoin is currently in the equivalent of 1999-2001 internet era, Nostr is still in 1991-1993
Well, I was introduced to Nostr November last year. I found out by myself the lightning option, got myself a wallet because I wanted to zap back. By January, I had all set...I even learned by observation why some people zap 21...210...2100...lol I have no intention to leave ! I love it here and the Frens I made. Thank you !!! 🙌🫂🙌
Well said. Maybe platforms don't need to be insanely addictive and people can just use them as often or as little as they'd like without excessive draw.

I come back here when I need to improve as a software engineer lol
'Elon's vision of free speech'? In X's setup, there is no free speech, there cannot be. He admitted it himself in certain instances. Are we this gullible? X is what it is. But it is certainly not a 'vision of free speech'. We still seem to be confused as to what freedom really is?

Everyone here massively appreciates what you do Will, even if less then 1% of all people appreciate it. Thanks for everything man, much respect 💜
Polishing the app experience is one element for sure. The bar raised by the central social medias with their hundreds of employees building over years is high, their apps work flawlessly and look pretty. I'm personally impressed how well many Nostr apps look and work already 🙏🏻 Yet it's obviously still a good way off. Also, the relay management needs to be clearer and easier in my opinion. The other super important element is having diverse content on Nostr. And that's up to us. Going 100% Nostr is great! But why to annoyingly sell it as the morally superior choice? One gentle way to expand the user and content base that I see, is to publish in parallel on established platforms AND on Nostr. Then make content available earlier or in other ways more attractive on Nostr while explaining Nostr's advantages. I've seen this approach here already and think it can be very effective. So, that's what I'd recommend Scott to do if he sees the value of Nostr.
hate to tell you this but you may need optional engagement algorithms that users choose or subscribe to in order to keep the noobs around. People like to be engaged. Otherwise people wander around lost, get scared off by maxi stuff and wander off again.

I like to think that not all engagement / entertainment is what it seems. Meaning, people are not coming to simply entertain themselves, but rather trying to escape their current reality - long work hours, the stress of dealing with {x}. Media consumption can be a useful tool to get people onto the protocol and let them slowly discover what it's actually all about.

Yes, but at the same time, people are hiring their apps to do a job, and it's probably not out of pure entertainment value. You have to wonder why someone would want to browse an app over doing this other thing IRL.
But is it ready for the masses if/when they do come? Not without a built-in solution to spam (i.e. cost baked into the protocol, not bolted on like with zaps). Nostr right now is a better IRC with nice app support. Which is very nice and I enjoy it, but I'm under no delusion that it actually plays in the same ballpark as social media platforms.
Scott and Udi are psychopathic Jewish parasites. Anti-parasitic Americans seem unable to kill off the parasitical specimens in their midst. A parasite sucks blood and energy until it's removed.
yes, nostr is the social medium of last resort - as bitcoin is the money of last resort they're where you go when you get kicked out of the controlled alternatives they will both outlast everything else and eventually everyone will end up using them

Damus is needed. It is a good client.
Yeah. IMO in most mainstream social media, a lot of that comes from engineered addiction. Maybe some percentage of it comes from genuine interest or to solve a practical problem, but a lot of it is just a mindless dopamine doomscrolling. Nostr feels different to me, I might come here less frequently but feels a lot more intentional.
Protect the #relays we must, for one day they will come and try to take them! Running a micro relay join up! wss://GALAXY13.nostr1.com
It's funny seeing Twitter simps try to dunk on nostr. If the stats at nostr.band is correct then that sucks but it doesn't make nostr a failure in any way. The protocol works and devs are building awesome tools that those who get censored by private companies or government entities can use to express themselves. Make fun of it all you want but sitting on a centralized government pwned platform shitting on actual solutions shows your true character.

#nostr isn’t a part of the attention economy. So the “point” made by Scott is moot
Almost everyone we spoke with (even the Bitcoin enthusiasts) said they would like to see more types of content on Nostr. Some barely use Nostr bc they have trouble discovering other types of content. People who like Nostr still us X or other platform social media bc they can’t get all of their content here. Nos is launching a Creator Residency and Journalism Accelerator to increase the variety of content on Nostr. Check out nos.social for details. Share it with people you’d like to see come over. https://www.nos.social/creator-residency
#Bitcoin worry less about what will happen today or tomorrow. Start thinking now about the best price to get at the end of the bull season. For example, I would leave the market after 300-350k. And you? If you haven’t join the rebelcapitalist newsletter yet then, I think it's high time you take a look , very effective community with top notch expertise. you can easily 100x some position with the current trend. Or maybe people have legitimate issues during onboarding and when they complain about it, there is no one to listen or even care

Are you aware of any app to incentivize X users to post on nostr? Ideally they could tweet through the app which 1) simultaneously posts to X and nostr, 2) potentially rewards them monetarily through sats. Alternatively, is there a way to use AI to post “read only” content from X onto nostr? I am trying to find a way to accelerate the network effect on nostr which admittedly has a weak breadth of content right now.... others pls feel free to weigh in...
crossposting is lame, it leads to facade-like profiles that never seem to interact.

While I’m still learning the nuances, I firmly believe #Nostr needs to exist, especially for nations like #Brazil that are going through a crisis and having their rights to #freespeech stripped from them in rapid fashion. Build your product where the greatest need is. When it works, the masses will follow. DON’T GIVE UP. I’m going to try to do my best to keep up here and keep posting, hoping that people join in and help build the future!
You're doing good work that matters. You will never see all the ways it has positively impacted people, but know that it is!
I was immediately a nostrich despite no social media accounts. We all know it’s just noise from X.
