I for one am in the camp that prefers men with beards. It feels natural to me. Masculine. They were born to have them. There are only two public pictures of my husband, since he prefers privacy, and yeah he has a beard. Not a shocker. But, where I do sympathize with the complexity of this issue, is about convenience. Some men have such thick beards that their lips aren’t even visible. How does that affect kissing? As a woman, do you kiss a coarse furball? What does that feel like? And as a man, what do you do about food particles and cleanliness? What does this all feel like? IMO the optimal beard doesn’t cover the lips too much. But that’s somewhat genetic. Thick-beards can shave it, some people are born with it naturally avoiding the lips, etc. My husband’s beard is thick but naturally avoids his lips. Visibly, when it grows long he’s like, “I need to shave this- I look like the head of ISIS.” And sometimes he gets the physical urge to shave it clean and start fresh and I’m like, “no!” but then he does it anyway and I’m sad briefly but look forward to it growing back. He controls his own hair of course. We both prefer the beard, but with limits. And his limits are ironically tighter than mine. Anyway, good evening. What are your thoughts on beards? I’m curious why there are not more of them. View quoted note →

Hot take - in most cases every man looks better with at least some form of facial hair. I am lazy (but neat). I’ll clean shave and then let my beard grow out and repeat, while keeping the neck clean. Also it’s funny to see my daughter react when I clean shave (and it feels good in summer to get a clean slate). I went through a post Covid mustache phase. It’s important that every man does this at least once 😂
I like/liked having a beard, though would keep it groomed fairly short, trimming about once a week. I think well-groomed beards pretty much always look good on someone. I've never kissed someone with a beard, so I have no opinion on that front 🤷🏻‍♂️ though, I don't mind there being hair on other things I've had my mouth on... 👀 All that said, I like the hair around my mouth being shorter than the rest of the beard. There was even a time where I would always trim the mustache away and only have the beard. Though normally, I'd trim to 7mm on the beard and 3mm on the mustache and right below my bottom lip. I mixed present/past tenses because I have alopecia and have lost most of my facial hair 🥲
Super cute hubby; seems younger than you. What do you do if your genetics only allow for either a thin black fu man chu or a wispy blonde pube scruff (and only after, like, sixteen, or later?
To add, my indicator for knowing it was time to trim would be when I'd start picking at and playing with my beard. I don't like it to be long enough to start doing that. Short, groomed, clean
One thing people don't realize is that beards are itching. Like itching for 3 years straight. When you see a guy constantly rubbing his beard and playing with it, that's why.
i experimented the whole range from clean shaven to nearly 3 inches and learned that sparser beard are better worn short while thicker beards do better worn long. They all definitely need some maintenance and clean up. That said, a turban/hat really helps to offset and better frame any type of beard. Sikh friends do really well with that. All around though having the lips cleared via waxing or trimming is the name of the game.

My wife to this day has never seen my face without a beard. Tapered from 2guard on sides down to a 3-4 around the jaw/chin. 2 at the mustache.
Same here, my wife likes the beard (she's told me I'm not allowed to shave it haha), we've been together for 26 years now and I've had it since we met. I generally trim it about once a week using a #2 and keep my neck below the jaw clean shaven.
Speaking as a man who's been bearded for 8 years straight, this is just incorrect. You may want to get that checked out.
The food in the stache bothers me very infrequently due to ~22 hours of daily fasting; however, it is a small price to pay for having a large, natural beard with the accompanying mustache.
::super cute hubby, seems younger than you:: I’m rekt. Totally destroyed. The worst thing you could say to a wife. But to answer the rest of your question, that wispy beard or fu man chu is hot. A natural beard that doesn’t cover the lips.
I have a beard. I shaved it once because it had been many years since I saw my face without it. When my daughter (whose 8yo) saw me she said I looked weird. Needless to say, the beard came right back. 😆😆
Thought I couldn't grow one, stopped trying, then tried again after a decade plus and lo and behold, I could, so I did.. work greybeard respect level up was real.. also, surprised to learn my wife is of he same opinion as you wrt to the bearded 😂
My facial hair grows in what Joe Dirt would call a “white trash” pattern. Thus, I am a mustache man. I did have a beard when I proposed to Carla, though…
I was early 20s supervising a work site when the organizer, who i had 3 months communication, walked past me & asked the older guy when we would be ready. Soon after i had a beard, it gave me age & experience. Now 20 yrs later its even turning gray. My wife’s crazy about it & my kids have never seen me shaved.
I have a beard. Fluctuates between nearly-kept and caveman. What will my daughter think if I ever shave it off? I know my wife will hate it!
I’ve an Asian wife. Beard is a no go in Japan. That will hurt her skin badly :(
different strokes for different folks! i don't like beards. on myself, or on others
I don't have straight hair, but I also don't get ingrown hairs on my face or neck for some reason.
I like crew cut and clean shaven. Probably because I grew up around military men and cops and customs officers and etc. Uniform guys.

I have been both bearded, and unbearded. Mine is the kind you can't really see my lips and I have no issue with that, my wife rathers I keep it this way, when I trim it up so my lips are visible it gets "pokey" and then she will not kiss me, sad Havok. Honestly my wife was not a fan of the beard at first, but now I say it grew on her, she says no, it grew on me.

I really do like a man with a beard and I agree with you about the need for accessibility to the lips. I love kissing and I can imagine that would get in the way. Also, hygiene is super important and thankfully I've not come across issues but I did once have a shortly lived relationship where my boyfriend of asian descent caused me perpetual breakout all around my mouth after kissing. And I was not into it this side affect at all. It was hard to tell exactly what caused it, whether his type of coarse beard hair, or some beard grooming product he used or my guess was that it was the fact that he ate a ton of soy products and I am highly intolerant so it may have just been contaminated saliva. Having struggled with adult acne since I landed in the US and because of it taken on extreme dietary restrictions that was quite a deal breaker for me. Wasn't gonna sacrifice my skin for a relationship with him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I grow it to about 10mm at the longest part (chin area) and the mustache about 5mm. The most annoying part is eating food that smells a lot. I usually wash my beard after eating certain meals if possible. Has to be shaved if it touches the lips or gets in your mouth 😂
Beards are great but high maintenance if they are to look good. A neglected beard looks 🫪. I have a beard simply to hide my triple chin. For real. And when it comes to the lips, one has to trim the mustache with a pair of scissors, which takes about 5 seconds, and then can keep it growing.
I like my hubby (@GJM) with a well kept beard… not a fan when it gets longer and scraggly. But a short well maintained beard is 😍☺️🙃
