I think it was @HODL who argued that bitcoiners and grandmothers basically give the same advice: -Save money, go for walks, plant a garden, eat real food, don't trust the banks, focus on your community, get some sun, etc. I think that comparison is under-marketed. We need some memes about it or something.

πŸ‘ŒπŸ» All that plus my Grandma used to say: - tv is lying - go to church - don't do onto others what you wouldn't like done to you - you haven't been really hungry in your life (after I refused to eat something and claimed "I'm hungry")
This is the community we foster in the #Meshtadel Permaculture Family Community (local and beyond) Culture Sovereignty Bitcoin is but a tool we yield to empower and enable the previous
I was close with my great grandmother. I was at her side back in the early nineties when she died, she was 92. She would go for several mile walks every day, plant gardens, make homemade meals, have weekly card games with friends, sat on the front porch in the sun, and she always stacked sats.
Taleb makes that point in his writing too, e.g. _Skin in the Game_. Long-standing morals, time-tested advice etc. (Not that he's esp loved by Bitcoiners these days.)

Grandmas lived long time and know things that stand the test of time. They know it is ridiculous to have a short term mind. Bitcoiners have low time preference and it looks like bitcoin will live a long time. It is about "time preference". "Virtue" might be just a definition of having low time preference and low space preference. Thinking about the future of humanity is being virtuous. Just like wishing well for others. It all comes down to whether we think short term or long term.
I was just thinking the other day: Bitcoin is becoming part of political platforms. We are now a political target demographic. Grey power has always been the leaden anchor that holds a lot of political progressivism back. Maybe we now have a reason and a common interest and status as political footballs to be a big fat heavy one. Orange pill the 50+ brigade and watch how fast saving comes back into fashion.

it's a desperately-needed bit of historical perspective. most people in the developed world just really have no idea how bad things can get.

My grandma's been hip since the 60s for real. Lol. She's always brought her own bags to the grocery store, always had a garden and always encouraged outdoor time.

I know where 2 find them for dayzzzz. Last one cuz dont wanna bug. Felt relevant.
New NOSTR channel- β€œOnlyNans” where you can see grandmothers teaching us to cook, garden, preserve food, fix things, practice sound economics, give life advice, stack sats, etc and zap the hell out of it.
On a dark note, mine killed herself when my own mother was 13 years old. I guess that is where the parallel to Bitcoiners ends. Would have liked to hear her advice...
This is one of the most interesting ideas I have seen on NOSTR. Could social media be used to promote "saving" and basically give people good economic advice? I think all the Bitcoiners on NOSTR could be the beginnings of such a community focused on helping people take control of their financial future by both "saving" and not spending their precious money. #grownostr #homeeconomics #saving View quoted note β†’
