140MB isn't that bad.
3 - I’m fortunate enough to have space for the larger app. Is this a problem on older/less capable devices?

Data is cheap, and speed is very important.

3. Privacy is worth the trade off
So far I’ve been pretty good at not talking to people without using Bitchat, why complicate life?
Difficult to have a toggle (save data-slower / faster-use more data)?

4) bitchat with whatever's the latest version of tor that's actually open source (I've heard they stopped having reproducible source code for Android version of Tor at some point)

wha do you mean about old a newer tor ?
The average user (and I include myself) doesn't even know what TOR is and what it's used for.

The user can choose.

Imo not an option for 99% people and you can do it already if you want
I'm not qualified to vote, I give @Jay my proxy.
Tor doesn’t work for bitchat

That might not be the best choice

Your blind vote is still better than my sighted vote on this subjectmatter

Keep it lean, and let Torbot do the heavy lifting.
It would be very good having pure onion address relays, because you don't need to exit on clear net. This is the culprit of most of the issues .. however i saw that everything stuck using onion net nostr relays .. probably most of the nostr implementation didn't work on that.. i saw big issues with https://plebs.app/ for example
basically nostr connect auth with amber didn't work
onion relay good resources

4) rewrite tor, because I don't see reason why it would have 140MB
Amethyst has this integrated I believe (another thing amethyst does well, to give it its due). Not sure that that is possible in bitchat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't even know what the difference is tho lol

Let's go with 2 then. That number came out of my highest quality random number generator.
Excellent.

1, I already have Orbot running.

Make Bitchat 10 GBs
Add some Bloat, Modern Graphics, Detailed Skins, we don't live in 1960s when 10 MB was $3,500.
We live in 2025, and SOON WE'LL BE IN 2026 😲!
You can buy a 2TB hard drive for $200.
Hell Add The Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Monero Blockchains to Bitchat as well.
I don't get where this fear of utilizing data comes from, I know bloat is a drag, and people used to do more with less but sometimes under optimized code that functions properly is better than over optimized code that is so slim that it's prone to errors.
Be a medium little medium person, and stop being afraid to use some memory.

🐒 tor is the onion browser. do we have to get/install/use ~modern~ tor ourselves? or is it put inside the bitchat machine? wouldn’t we just want no. 3?
