Nostr dot com for sale! $5m, offer ends 20th Sept, at which point it will come under the umbrella/management of LNbits Inc for 3 years. (If sold, I commit to 10% going to fiatjaf, and 10% towards LNbits development). DM or email ben at lnbits dot com if interested. Rationale: I would of course prefer to keep it, but current needs must. I bought the domain in 2020 for $5k, and it's value is at least x1000. If its not sold, @lnbits will use for services, such as relays and sell NIP05 handles. The sale must be to the right person/project/company who will use it for something great.

generally triggered by this post, not pricing the domain selling price in sats 💩
Technically #nostr is not a company so dot com is meaningless. And it's not the dot come era anymore. A lot of other more suitable nostr domains are available.
Enjoyed listening to a recent #podcast with you on The Bitcoin Takeover. Smart move to edit out the “roger ver” joke from your bio before you posted this. Wouldn’t be as funny now that it’s come true. Good luck with the sale but I think #nostr is gonna be fine regardless. 🤙
If there’s a massive company or venture capital involved, sure, but nostr.com doesn’t really justify what cars.com was valued at $872 million a decade ago. That company earns almost $700 million a year. What’s the potential ROI on a website that doesn’t sell anything?
“it’s [sic] value is at least x1000” is the equivalent of “trust me bro.” Where is the market analysis to justify your asking price? The seemingly arbitrary value you’ve chosen and your method of communicating this decision are quite disappointing.

I'll give you 5.1m sats
I don't think the domain name for an open protocol is worth that much. Is html.com worth 5 mil? I'd guess not. In any case, HTML is way more well known and used as a protocol. The whole point of an open protocol is that it's difficult to monetize because that requires locking it down and milking it. View quoted note →
So people are not allowed to sell things they own? I'll be in prague and btc Amsterdam, so let's chat there 👍
Dude, I have spent years contributing to things for free, and will continue to do so. It's about the right vompany getting the name to do something useful with it.
"Hey, you control the nostr.com domain, right? I want to set up a mailing list for Nostr-related stuff on there" Manners, a please goes a long way
Given the very bad reception of this note, I'd say your domain name has lost value, not gained. Whoever end up buying this will be crowned clown of nostr, it's bad marketing for a company.
Ben, how much do you realistically need? I'd love to see the domain and it's content in the hands of several individuals, such as how bitcoin.org is handled. It would be a shame to see nostr.com turn into something similar to bitcoin.com. I don't have much, but I can contribute some funds to help with this cause if you'd be willing to budge on the price, a significant amount.
We could boost a mega Zapraiser of 200 BTC to reach this goal and hand over the domain to a federation of gatekeepers. There are responsibilities that must transcend time and individuals.
Okay, for the sake of argument, the nostr.wine relay costs 18888 sats, or around $5 flat-fee. You'd need to sell a million subscriptions just to break even on the cost of the domain name before factoring in operating costs. That's a tall order for a protocol that currently has maybe 10,000 active users. It's great to have big dreams, though. Maybe someone will figure out a viable business plan, but I echo what @semisol and others have said that the name should not be owned by a company operated for profit because of the risks of becoming co-opted and centralized.
Nostrchy.com , nostrepublic.com & nostrosphere.com for sale. package deal. Get all 3 for 100,000,000 sats. No low balls. I know what I have. & There are no superficial altruistic requirements. I will sell out to literally any douchebag on the nostrosphere. (Not joking)
Too cheap for me, I'll have to pass. I value things when overpriced only, rich tax... ⭐ Good luck with the sale 🤞
View quoted note → View quoted note →
No, it's worth a lot more. Needs must, times change, etc. If I could keep it forever I would. Had 3 offers so far, 2 I turned down, one they are getting back to me with more details. Needs to be the right person.
😂 Very slick how you managed to make a sale giving you $4M about how you're just trying to do the best thing for the community. Truly sublime 🙇
Dick move dude. You can say whatever you want. Selling fking protocol name dot com it's low. Try to reach out to jack and maybe sell it for 1mil or smth. This move weakens the protocol credibility very much. What if I buy it and I sell ... idk crap and you go to nostr.com and find adds aboute cotton covers for your ball sack? You are trying to wrap this under..." I need this, I have a problem" ...etc. This is a donatable domain. And sorry, until I see proof I don't belive you paied 5k for this domain.
If I am in fact a dick then surely the domain would be better managed by someone else? Roger Ver didn't sell his domain and he is a monster dick. Would it of been a dick move if he had sold to something better? It's about seeing if a person/company/project exists out there who are appropriate to pass onto. Likelihood is that there is not, so LNbits will officially manage after 20th, so I'm less of an attack vector. Either way, whatever comes next for the domain is better.
Oh, well ... I guess I could say the same about nostr.info Your asking price got me thinking but I'm pretty sure you're reaching here. Nostr is cool and stuff but $5 million for a domain?
How on earth did I not see this 4 days ago? So it explains why #nostriches have been acting a bit strange to me #nostr for sale for 5M Sometimes people miss the point of finding gold on things that look like nothing, or presented in a vague manner Who knows, it might be for the better As for the 5M tag price, NGL but it is always the creator's right that must be respected, imho. No matter what the yadayadadash, why fuss over something you didn't create? You do you - create, build, sell is how things go, whether you like it or not There's always truth to the saying, "one man's trash is another man's gold" Nostr's is selling is not, will not, and I will not allow to, invade my peaceful, simplistic world. No nostr, no loss of happiness, but to the ones who might be directly or indirectly impacted, look at the bigger picture - do it first before you argue View quoted note →
