It's been bad since 2016 I wish someone warned you sooner glad to hear your off it now. Simplex is the future for just chatting between us & whoever we want at our choice.
Yeah it's always been bad spyrecord. I guess you haven't looked at simplex in awhile the some issues have been fixed every update is making improvements under the hood. Matrix I like for it's UX because i'm a sucker for that thread list & gallery view but it's encryption is very leaky it's got tons of metadata leaks & it's funny encrypt messages but not encrypt reactions. Then the homeserver admin tools anyone using them since it's a free public tool can see anyones ip address & see every single room they are in regardless what homeserver their on, how many files uploaded since acc creation & more. A little too personal exposing for my liking. What I like with simplex aside from how the encryption works is how you can change connection routing per person & change it when you need to during chat. Like you can hist your own smp I can host my own & when we dm each other we can set on that dm our connections route only to those 2 specific smps no proxy to any other. That's ensureing theirs no big brother above spying or determining whatever. Like I just want to chat with me & whoever not me whoever & shadow spy. Nermitly if I remember correctly the html web based chat with the cat icon originally nertivia but then the dev said hes scraping that because he wanted to build it all over again from scratch then asked the evil lazy devs at revolt to help him? If so yeah I know it pretty cool basic tabs in there is cute but still centralized & subject to their tos & pp.

Good, this will cause more development in open source software and decentralization.

Not arguing because I know they've been trying, but I have yet to experience this for myself. If it gets to that point, I have zero issue opting out of Discord entirely... problem is, I use Discord for professional and learning aspects. I hate that so many companies use Discord for everything nowadays, but it's the unfortunate reality so hopefully companies will open alternatives of some sort.

LinkedIn have started to ask that too (not compulsory yet though)...
Ah yes, that was a good one, but I mostly have very fond memories about Battlefield 2 and the early days where DayZ was an Arma mod. That was so awesome. Best times.

White Noise, which is based on the MLS protocol, uses Nostr to transmit the data. It's entirely decentralised. It has good support for large groups This podcast episode is a nice intro: I'm very impressed. But it's still relatively new. The MLS protocol is not new, it seems to be well regarded. But the rolling out into the real world is still in the early stages
I think this is really smart of Discord. Do it, while most are still sheep and comply. Deleted that app ages ago, but most users will not give it a second thought.

I get this error when I try to add you Does it mean that you and I are using different relays? I have only one friend on White Noise so far, so I don't have any experience of debugging things like this image
If you're a #Bitcoiner (which to me means you care about #freedom in general, #free #speech in particular, and #privacy because it enables your rights), then why the F would you put up with this dystopian nonsense in 2025?! Enough cognitive dissonance! Leave those centralized shitholes, and use #Nostr once and for all! #X #Twitter #Discord #Facebook #Instagram ... View quoted note → View quoted note →
Late to the party but... alternatives? Revolt/Moat.chat - Discord clone, a shit one too. TeamSpeak 6 - Just like Discord in ui/ux, self-hostable apparently, BUT read their EULA and Clause... They give EVERYTHING you do to all the companies you don't want! Would you rather China, a country you would probably never visit, or the 5-14 eye nations eyeballing your every move? Self host Matrix/XMPP stuff I guess? Make your own client or actually build the private community *you* want on nostr. The whole point of this protocol rn to me is getting people away from tyranny and showing them something else that's out there. Anything... But I cannot onboard people to a discord clone that does not exist. Keep in mind too, every single person that can *do* something about the state of the world... are the teens and 20-somethings. They are ALL on Discord still and Twitch and these centralized platforms. The realization that they are not safe is becoming very apparent to them with RING doorbells cooperating with ICE and US. GOV to be a spy network. Just scream wolf if you see a wolf... I would hope that at least one person takes notice.
