I think there’s an implied wink-wink-nudge-nudge, use fake name and email. Although I think they’re being careful to not say that explicitly. New normies won’t know to do that though.
But think about onboarding. Bitcoin is hard and Coinbase makes it easy for them... I mean lightning is hard and primal makes it easy to use for them.

I just don’t get it
I might be completely off my ass, but I think people are falling for the same thing that they kind of do in Bitcoin, which is adoption at all costs. We get one easy to use client that solves a lot of problems. It makes zaps easy for people. It makes the whole creating an account thing easy for people. People want easy. Most people don't want to have to think. That's why they're on shit like TikTok and Instagram and other sorts of social media.
I also think there's a lack of understanding of why people need these technologies. So they fall for some of the same pitfalls of legacy media. Also, it doesn't help that there are influencers that people trust who shill these products a bunch.

Primal is an easier more convenient onboarding experience for those who are new to both bitcoin and a Nostr. That said, convenience comes with the problems you outline.

Yep and that’s my concern. It’s definitely not something that someone new to nostr and/or bitcoin would be aware of. Setting them up for potential dosaster by onboarding with primal it seems

Yeah but you are the legendary TonySly. My concern is around a KYC data connection to the npub itself for unsuspecting noobs, 99% of whom wouldn’t think to do that. Also i could swear i saw people getting rejected trying to use fake info 🤔 could be wrong about that
Fair point re: noobs.
The only way I can think to fix this is to basically have a walkthrough checklist pop up on other clients that almost hand holds new users through the process. Heck, I work in IT and it took me a bit to figure out.
I’ve spent I lot of time creating SOPs for businesses and you have to dumb it down to the most incompetent user to be sure they fully understand. This way it encompasses all users.
Yeah tbh not worried about the bitcoiners in this context. I just assume they generally avoid primal, or successfully use fake info like you did, or know how to bypass it with alby NWC which is marginally better

Is the link between KYC and npub a problem for those using their true name? I can see how it's an issue for a nym.
Download, open, see KYC, exit, delete, stick with Damus, amethyst and coracle.
I guess not although couldn’t hurt to just not provide that data if possible, even for an npub that uses their legal name
It’s just a huge part of nostr being considered freedom tech is that with keypairs instead of a username/pw stored on some company’s servers, there’s no need to volunteer any personal info. Yet primal seems to have reinvented that “need” 🫠

Can't you just put fake info and a burner email? If people put their real info it's kinda natural selection. The relays all have your ip address too you know. I don't see anyone clamoring for some type of onion routing.
Intel assets promote all kind of nonsensical stuff.
Just promote Amethyst (or whatever other non-kyc option you like) instead. That's the only real solution. Primal gonna Primal.

Where is this wallet you speak of in Primal? I'm using Desktop client mostly not seeing. Mobile client wants my nsec to be non-read-only. Not using nsec period on any mobile device.

#nostr is a protocol. It doesn’t have to be about one client being “better” than another. There is and should be a bunch of clients. Users can choose between them depending on their wants/needs.

It’s a tradeoff
I used it for the iOS app and quick onboarding to get familiar with nostr. But I understand it way better now. I knew out the gate that it wouldn’t be privacy strong, but just wanted to give it a shot.
I prefer to use it on mobile though, is there another client that does this well, without KYC? And handles zaps?

I wondered the same thing.
People told me you can put whatever you want in the KYC info fields of Primal, it is not validated in any way.
However, it also asks for an email. What if it uses it for recovery, you don't want to put in a random one then.
