That's the main reason I don't use Tailscale
good effort from iris
tail = shit
Tastes like a fish tail, captain?
Wow! Does it also solve the issue where Tailscale coordination servers geo-block certain countries from using tailnet? I guess coordination servers are replaced with Nostr relays in your implementation.
Yes
i had the exact same frustration recently and have been planning to set up a headscale network instead with a local exit node for ip protection vpn.
👀👀
self-hosted headscale backend, tailscale clients set to custom auth url
This is awesome. I’m sure
@ZEUS users will get a ton of value out of this.
this is very cool
That’s a great idea I recently did. Similar thing with sync thing after getting annoyed at UX :)
Sweet! I'll give it a try.
Damn, I've just been building my own wireguard tunnels by hand.
Is that stuff FOSS?
Why not simply use wireguard?
I just finished migrating from #Tailscale to a self-hosted #Nebula network on #NixOS. How does this compare?
Tailscales 3rd party login is backwards, but I'm still using it 😒
Eh... seems like a great way to get exploited. Try out pangolin instead
🙏
This is damn cool!
Tailscale / headscale / Nostr VPN solve connections between changing IP addresses behind NATs. Nostr VPN doesnt have a TURN server though, so doesn't work in cases where NAT hole punching fails.
Nice
Nebula seems similar, but uses its own keys and lookup servers instead of nostr relays
👀
This is what I wanted to build, but unfortunately one of my wants was to also connect my android and others' iphones but... WITHOUT preventing them from also using a VPN.
I want for what one cannot have.
Yggdrasil does the same thing, and fips does it over nostr too
Wow!! Yes!
Anything that needs an account should die.
This is awesome … I started vibecoding a similar thing but got stuck. Will check it out!
You’re building some really cool shit lately
Anyone aware of a Nostr/node networking for dummies guide? I feel lost in the sauce - would love to learn a new concept skill everyday that builds toward sovereign computing/networking expertise.
Everytime I dig In it seems I never find a base layer / bottom on which to build a foundation of knowledge. Just more questions...

Umm true, when changing IPs it's kinda annoying, and having a dynamic DNS from third parties looses self hosting, I was just curious to ask 🫡
I usually liked the no-ip service as another option, it's simple enough and easy to use 😸
It will be cool to have it on umbrel...
fairly certain the full stack is, yea. if you're careful.
Thank you Sirius.
Fips looks very interesting, will take a look. I was thinking of doing something similar. However, Nostr VPN is a private network tool, yggdrasil and fips are open meshes.
You can firewall on open meshes and it becomes a vpn
I'm geek enough to use wireguard directly but the couple of times I used Tailscale it felt like magical, but I was also annoyed by this third party account requirement (that is not really justified).
Trying to 10k zap this but it’s the first time I’m using primal wallet and it did 42 sats apparently but won’t do 10k or 9950…. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Thanks for making a cool nostr tailscale alternative! Keep building and I’ll keep zapping! ⚡️(if I can get the damn thing to work)
Fips requires some nodes being reachable through port forwarding (or similar).
Does nostr-vpn allow for a "magical experience" similar to Tailscale?
🤔

Oh man this is huge
Can you set an exist node for all connected devices? This is a really important attribute for privacy given that you're very likely outgoing connections from the connected devices.
Holy shit balls!!! I can get rid of headscale?
This sounds promising.
This looks fantastic Martti, great work!
Iroh seems interesting

"Tailscale’s dependency on third-party auth is a valid concern—decentralized alternatives like this Nostr VPN could fill a gap. Reminds me of a piece I read on crypto hubs: decentralization solves some trust issues but introduces new friction. Worth testing if this scales beyond personal use."

That is dope my friend.
Sovereign networking at its best. No KYC, no accounts, just keys. Impressive.
O fim da dependência de terceiros. Usar o Nostr para sinalizar VPN via WireGuard é o puro suco da soberania digital. Sem contas, sem KYC, apenas chaves.

Got annoyed by Tailscale requiring 3rd party accounts, so created Nostr VPN.

It signals over nostr relays and creates a wireguard / boringtun network. Builds for Macos and Linux. Using it between my Macs, but haven't tested extensively yet.

This is interesting 🤔

LFG 🔥
Quand Martti Malmi (oui celui à qui Satoshi envoyait des petits mots doux), en a plein le cul de devoir créer des comptes pour utiliser Tailscale, il se code un petit VPN basé sur les relays du reseau NOSTR 🤯

is this your account?
"Hope you've registered and create qfs account and connected it to recommended web3 ledger for ongoing pension payments using XLM and XRP."?
well done
great stack gui on mac is cool smooth. try to create mesh with my nixos, wireguard doesnt want to come up and boring tunnel interface wg0 transfer nothing. tried to see if udp packets arrive it does via tcpdump i can see it but still no grean signal. What i am doing wrong?
#Déjàvú ?
I was talk about NOSTR VPN in the last week !
This is the future !
I am a seer !
There's nostr vpn for mobile?
