Because they’ve mostly settled on their networks of choice by now. The Twexodus is over, and Nostr never caught on with the crowds when it had the chance. People don’t change their entire social graph often, maybe once in a decade or so at best. It’s kind of like car insurance.

Easy to say. I’ve been building for this protocol for over a year now, and it’s a ghost town out there.
Yeah, that doesn’t sound like fun, but I still get the sense that Nostr clients are looking for product market fit and that some will eventually find it.
Don’t forget that one of the first apps I made (which turned out to be a surprise hit) was called @Plebs vs. Zombies 🧟♂️🪓 which lets you see all the hundreds of people you follow who have left Nostr. @ODELL called it “fucking depressing” and then he went back on Xitter again a few weeks later.
the power of nostr is that the identities are portable...

All I ever see coming over the cursed mostr bridge is racism and porn, including the really bad kind I don’t want to mention.
Wow that is so not my experience... I guess I've cultivated follows differently.... I've got some Swedish archeologist, a guy who operates a pinball arcade in Finland, various micro-celebs like Meredith Whittaker etc.
Certain hashtags can sometimes come through with "shipped" porn but it's usually NSFW tagged. (Also I'm using Momostr but it probably doesn't make a difference.)

It’s been a while, and I have made a point of avoiding it since I first saw it a couple of years ago. I don’t “cultivate” anything where Mastodon is concerned. I absolutely don’t want anything to do with that fake “decentralized” network.
Try adding relay.ditto.pub as a feed relay, every 5 or so post coming from the bridge is indeed nsfw.
Maybe the real hot girls are the friends we made along the way.
Ditto is one of the worst things to ever happen to Nostr.
I understand why US adoption is slow, current lack of necessity, but I'd think UK adoption would be kicking into gear.

The pain of inaction must exceed the pain of action.
Most people will go to / get burned by Mastodon first as the tech overhead, maintenance, social dynamic overhead is too much for most. Even techish people will get tired over time with upkeep leading to an unsafe general feeling, as people are forced to think about digital footprints.
NOSTR will develop even easier to deploy "GramGram proof self hosted relays" making the tech overhead for the average person an after thought.
Setting Nostr up is still too complicated or at least it seems that way. Setup for normies is not easy who are used to email. Then there are no good cohesive apps. I tried all kinds of web apps and all of them have some major flaws. Primal is the most polished one but the feed is showing me basically nothing. I am on amethyst now. The best experience so far but just on the phone.
Only few normies will go through this process to test apps. They will not understand the underlying principle and will stay away.
What Nostr needs is a simple app (both phone and web) that just works out of the box and only shows advanced features for experienced users.

I block most.pub and mostr.pink in Amethyst, which takes care of 95% of that trash.
Sure, it’s not like I patched a dangerous security flaw where any user could paste their nsec into any form field in the app like the note composer for example and hit send or anything. You’re welcome, BTW.
Instead of trying to onboard new users to nostr the client devs are mostly interested in poaching users from existing clients.

Because UK is copying USA laws.
The Americans are already here. Texas and Utah have had age restrictions and digital id for internet use since 2022, half of USA has these laws now.
Just happens on a state by state basis in USA instead of happening across the entire country at once.

The UK is jailing 12,000 people per year for online posts. Having age verification for adult sites is hardly the same thing.
The USA won't even publish numbers o how many tens of thousands of people have been arrested for social media posts.
But just looking at university campuses where the arrests mostly get reported the number is higher than UK.
If you're going to make a claim like that, you'll need to provide some sort of source. I can't find anything even close to your "tens of thousands" claim.
