Moving from unlimited abundance at no cost, with extraction as the inevitable outcome, to scarcity funded by scarce money. Tricky, but necessary.
We all want adoption, but adoption does not start with payments. It starts with meaning. You cannot force people to zap and you cannot lecture them into caring. We have to build something worth caring about first. We are building a new neighborhood here on Nostr, and zapping is part of the experience, but it is not why people show up. They come because it feels different. Zaps are not the only form of value. Relationships, connection and purpose all have value. Eventually, zaps will take care of themselves. We should not have to explain the rules or etiquette. People will zap because it feels right, not because they were told to.
I appreciate your perspective, and I hear you, but that's not how I see it. Culture is too often an excuse for “someone else fix this first.” It's downstream of investment. Sure, that can mean many things, but if we want to create a real change in categories of products like social media, we need to support the alternative. The alternative to extractive, exploitative enshittification is to pay for the product. As I began with, to each their own.
Oh no! What if he started a 1-sat-zap trend? Just like in time travel stories when they try to avoid a certain destiny only to find out, that they have caused it 😱
1) People don’t zap content creators enough. 2) When did I say I want full time content creation on Nostr to be my job? 3) Define “on Nostr.” 4) Are you saying it is a bad thing for someone to want full time content creation on Nostr to be a source of their income/revenue?
@FLASH is making it happen. I'm not a real baller but a couple bucks a month zapped to an npub regularly putting news in my feed is worth it. Just need more like-minded folks to adopt nostr and grow the economy large enough to support CCs. We're still early.
I’m giving you sincere advice. There are people on here who will hate you if you try. As for the question, Nostr has a very small user base, and an even smaller base of people willing to zap. In general, V4V takes time and patience as you create whatever it is you love to create and find your community/niche of people that enjoy it. So for now, I’d say that no, it’s not possible to make content creation on Nostr a full time job. But content creation in the larger sense absolutely can be, and Nostr can be part of that strategy.

Thanks for the sincere advice 🫂 I get that Nostr has a small community right now and zaps are limited. But as you said, V4V takes time and patience, I want to create what I love and find the community that enjoys it 😎 So even if it can’t be a full-time job yet, Nostr can definitely be part of the bigger journey .
I don’t zap you because I don’t follow you or consume your content. In fact I keep you muted because I find that you simply recycle other people’s content from other networks as your own content here. But for those who do like your content, they ought to be zapping you.
My biggest issue is that I would require ~100x to consider going into living off zaps only atm. We first need individuals who want to hang around, then we can see if they want to zap. I don't think anyone can live off memes, I think that it's value is only accessable when attention is the currency. Please do try and make it on nostr
It is very tough to make some meaningful value off of zaps with only 15-20k daily Nostr users. I appreciate the support that I get and love zaps and zapping. If you are making a product you can make more of course but even with the sales that I make it would be impossible to live off of it. We need more content and I zap the content that I like! ⚡️ > 👍
That not how V4V works. If you want to be able to tell me what I owe you fuck off to another platform. I think we both know you'd make even less.
"But for those who do like your content, they ought to be zapping you…" 🥱 Stop your cinema, and eat your solo sauce like a grown-up. How did you see my message if you supposedly muted me? I didn't ask you for your opinion on my work, but you gave it to me, so I'll tell you in turn: none of your memes has ever triggered the slightest smile on my lips. And know that a lot of people connect to Nostr exclusively to see the news that I compile here, it is impossible for this to be the case for you.
That is how much they valued your work. The end. I expect better of a 7yo than to whine about how something they got for free wasn't exactly what they wanted. I would never give an adult who did that another gift again. Zaps are public so anyone can see I haven't zapped you in ages.

We appreciate that 🙏🫂 If you want to earn the hardest money in the universe, you have to create value. 🫡
He won't do that. You'll cut in on his bottom line. There are no algorithms to put you in front of eyes. You have to have consistently quality content or be followed by The Influencoors™️ and have them share your mid content. But also, being a decent person and not being a whiny toddler will get you much further around here. Utilize pertinent hashtags. Interact with others. Comment on posts, don't just react or *shudder* "onlyzap".
I like this approach. Maybe even have a couple of tiers: 1) The content creator pays no subscription fee and then splits a default % of zaps with the client creator with the option to increase it if they want. 2) The content creator pays a monthly/yearly/lifetime subscription fee to the client creator, and then keeps 100% of their zaps with the option to split a % if they want.
Or because it gives them access to something they can't get anyway else 😊

Having @npub1qf9p...auu5 LIVE at @npub1ad0p...ng2c may have seemed, from the outside, like “just a simple zap dashboard on a screen” but in reality, it was far more ambitious. Every single speaking slot in the conference schedule had its own PubPay LIVE. Before the event, we emailed every speaker explaining how Nostr works, how to create an account if they didn’t already have one, and how to set up a Lightning Address. For the ones who missed the email, we reached out personally. Texting, onboarding, troubleshooting. Whatever it took. We made sure every speaker had the tools to participate. For the speakers who didn’t create their own PubPay LIVE event in time, we displayed a default event created by the conference’s Nostr account. In total, we got 47 PubPay LIVEs. On stage, speakers got to experience the magic of Nostr firsthand: sats streamed directly to them in real time, tied to the identity of the payer, often with comments full of love, questions, or even criticism. It was value-for-value in its purest form. The audience, on the other hand, got the simplest introduction to Nostr imaginable. Anyone could instantly reward their favorite speaker, send a message that appeared both on-screen and on Nostr for the entire world to see, and compete for the top of the leaderboard, gaining visibility, clout, and often advertising their own products. A total of 325,293 sats were zapped to the speakers' posts. Nostr was even featured in the official livestream during @npub1au23...t53j talk. image It wasn’t just engagement. It wasn’t just fun. We onboarded. We educated. We opened a new channel of real-time interaction. We tested interoperability across Nostr clients under real live pressure. And the result? We purple-pilled and orange-pilled an entire conference. What @Pedro 🧨 and I pulled off was nothing short of incredible. And we’re not stopping. The goal is to bring PubPay Live to every major Bitcoin conference in 2026. With everyone’s help, it becomes easier, smoother, and even more impactful. Who’s in? View quoted note →

Are you trying to tell me that if I'm trying to make money by using NOSTR like some sort of Twitter-that-pays-me-for-snarky-comments that I'm doing it wrong?
Paying for the product doesn't have anything to do with zapping commenters. Instead, it's paying the developer of whatever NOSTR tools' you're using. Zaps are nice too, if you want to send a tip to somebody
What kind of ads? Who's buying the ad space? Ads are not bad per se. I have products to sell and services to offer, I need ad spaces to get the message out. I need ad spaces where people see my ads so they buy my stuff and I'm willing paying for that ad space. The ad market itself is value for value and it's competitive as good ad space is scarce. I want my ads to be shown in high quality places to relevant people, so they don't mind the ad but respond positively to my offers. Nostr with its 20k weekly active npubs is completely uninterested to me in that regard. What ads are shown on fountain? Bitcoin content for bitcoiners, by bitcoiners..? Instagram is hell not because it shows ads but because it shows too many, every fifth post in one's feed is an ad. It's like browsing a catalogue, not checking in on friends anymore. ,
The devs can’t even work together so I truly don’t give a fuck about their feelings anymore … genuinely Plus when I first came here First pic WAS COMMON SHIT ON HERE SO don’t even get me started about the double standards of men and women Not everyone WANTS to be a product. Again, it’s another paradigm shift. Are you so dense you don’t realize that? Go hookup with ( second pic) below ⬇️ she WANTS to be a product. That’s not how most humans work FFs 🙈 Last is proof of zaps ⚡️ so please don’t assume some of us aren’t trying to assist

Its part of becoming more conscious. When you are more conscious you WANT to give something back. It will feel weird to receive and not to give. The ones who receive without giving back will not get the whole value, their experience will be morphed by ads, CTAs and manipulation. They will be the product.
Scarcity is good. Social proof is good. Gamification is good. All things helpful in bringing adoption forward.
Maybe more accueately, its like leaving on a fun road trip with friends and not figuring out if anyone has gas money. Its fun while it lasts but it really sucks when you broke in the middle of nowhere
Aho @Seth! I’ve made some seriously solid connections and friendships through here and look forward to the moment we can get together the physical world and hash out more collaborations.

What the beggars fail to realize is that the lack of zaps and/or large zaps is the free market speaking. Yes, v4v! …but this also means their must *be* value in the posts.
1) what’s enough? It’s subjective 2) you didn’t, not that I’m aware of, cause it probably ain’t possible right now 3) using the Nostr protocol 4) Hell Nah, I would love that and I think it will be viable if we can get some more people from Twatter, and FB, IG and TikTok. I would love to just zap stream and make 60k sats a day painting for people.
You're equivocating Tipping w/ V4V. aka. Busking busk /bŭsk/ intransitive verb To play music or perform entertainment in a public place, usually while soliciting money.

Facts. There’s no magic algorithm here, just consistency, quality, and being a decent human. We’re on an open protocol, not a platform that pushes people artificially. I’d rather grow through real interactions than onlyzaps and whining. Create, connect, show respect… and keep going.

Haha fair enough, everyone’s got their own vibe. Different opinions are totally fine; that’s what keeps things interesting. Still friends, still good energy. 🤝✨
