Any bots moving ALL of Twitter into Nostr with a separate key per profile? I need to index it.

RIP to anyone with an unlocked profile who will never be able to delete their tweets ever again. ๐ซช
This will cause absolute mayhem. ๐ค
Oh you think we are the only ones creating a copy of everybody's tweet? That's cute.
Can you stop my amethyst from pulling notes from hundreds of relays without my contsent. That's why Amethyst is full of spam
The way Nostr works is that apps MUST connect with ALL relays declared by your follow's outbox lists. Otherwise, you will be missing their posts. That's by design of Nostr.
You can block relays you don't like, though. But we will never centralize the app in just a few relays.
I don't think it's accurate to say apps MUST connect to every relay declared by the people I follow.
NIP-65 says clients SHOULD use a user's write relays when downloading their events. That's a recommendation, not a protocol requirement.
What I'm asking for is user choice. Give me an option like "Only use my configured relays," with a warning that I may miss posts from people who don't publish to those relays. I'm perfectly fine with that tradeoff.
LFL already uses this approach. It only pulls events from the relays I've explicitly configured, so I'm not suddenly ingesting spam from hundreds of relays I never approved.
Outbox discovery can remain the default for people who want it. I just don't think a Nostr client should force my device to connect to hundreds of third-party relays without giving me the option to restrict it.
Most apps just centralize everything in their own relays. That's how they make nostr work.
Not us.
You can add proxy relays in the relay list, that will disable outbox for the feed. But usually people regret doing that because they miss a lot of posts.
I'm not asking Amethyst to centralize anything. I just want the choice to only use the relays I've added myself.
I understand I'll miss some posts, and I'm fine with that. I'd rather miss a few posts than pull spam from hundreds of relays I never added.
The relay system is terrible in nostr. You need to think smarter and be more creative and not follow the crowd because now my amethyst is full of spam
Then use the proxy relay setting. The option has been there for two years.
ok I will try it and see how it goes
Wait, is every account on twitter follow-able on nostr?
I'm actually mostly a twitter lurker, so this would save me a lot of touble
It could be. We just need to get the bots going.. we already have for mastodon and wikipedia anyway..
Does amethyst have any plans to make an RSS reader section lol;)
Currently using
In a workaround way.
Maybe amethyst already does this but I've not made it that far into the menu yet.
atomstr
Don't you just have to follow those accounts?
Wait wait wait. I thought it was extremely difficult to get twitter feeds..weren't they always getting shut down?
You're saying you can clone twitter and use a third party to read it (and post to it?). I think this is what twitter actually used to be like, there were different clients you could use to read / post.
Is that happening again?
Is this totally theoretical? Or is someone actually building this. This would actually get quite a lot of attention and use (from outside the usual bitcointwitter crowd lol).
I do not give permission for relays to hold my notes if I haven't specified them in my relay list.
Do people do this with centralized datadases that can be cease & desisted by Elon (and in all likelihood would have paywalled access to cover operational costs)? Sure, probably. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
However, broadcasting it decentralized (and immutably) with nobody who has admin access to the data is a COMPLETELY different beast. ๐โโ๏ธ
Think about it. ๐ค
Lol, that will never work. By definition each client is holding your notes and can rebroadcast anywhere their user wants them to, including private relays that you will never see.
I don't care. I'm asserting my rights as Data Owner.
Well yes, but I have to grab the RSS feed, go to atomstr add it, then open it (often the most difficult part because it can't find it lol).
Then I have to add it to a list I call RSS (and sublist like RSS - Rare music).
It's a bit of a faff.
But tbh a proper rss reader nostr client is probably a massive undertaking in itself.
I need to look into open source and free RSS readers actually.
I just think there is something in them for someone to make a nostr project around.

You might need to study the legal notion of implied license. This has been tested multiple times in the courts already.
Property vs. Copyright: Legally, the email content is not considered "property" in the traditional sense; rather, it is a literary work protected by copyright law upon creation. While you are the author and hold the copyright, the recipient receives a copy and typically gains an implied license to use, store, or share that content unless a prior agreement (like an NDA) restricts this.

You might need to speak to your lawyer.
there were a bunch of RSS readers in the past that added nostr support, did you look into any of those?
nah, you can't read X without an account
I just did. I sent your post to him :)
No, that's not the "design of nostr" that's your implementation of nostr. Outbox is not a requirement and it's a hindrance to privacy and security of using nostr. Users can pay for federated relays plenty exist, no need for forced outbox.
I tried those systems. They don't work. Half of the information on nostr doesn't even load on them. And then 6 months later those servers disappear and all users get rug pulled. Even the paid services have left users hanging.
I do get that, but then the user chooses a new relay when that becomes an issue, just like I will and everyone that's in this boat. I happen to have been using the same relays for maybe 3.5 years now... That's a users choice.
It is quite literally a trade off between convenience and privacy/security. That just needs to be on the label. Nostr _works_ with or without outbox, that's not a requirement nor is it _the_ spec.
Besides that, honestly the spam is the worst part. Relays go through great lengths to suppress slop, garbage, porn and other nasties for a single open relay to ruin the feed without my choice. Relays are doing work for clients if a user chooses. I don't use a smart phone, but even for web clients the only way I can suppress the garbage is to create firewall, dns, or ublock filters, which is fucking asinine imo.
We have relay lists, some of use keep them up to date. Obviously I have no stake in amethyst or how you choose to do it, but I don't think it's right to tell users "Thats h how nostr works" when your omitting the truth.
It's fine to try something new, but nostr truly works with outbox. Every user that is active today has an outbox relay and his/her client is only posting there, replies to that user only go to the inbox relay list of that user.
Literally every active account that is not a bot or a disposable npub has them. And everything reacts to that record.
I make good arguments against connecting to hundreds of random servers every time I scroll and destroying my feeds. You cannot hand-wave that away. I think _some_ people would like to know why they have to tolerate garbage and spam to see one the possibility of a reply.
The thing is, i can live without seeing one persons reply because they use some obscure self hosted outbox relay if it means I retain my privacy. One bad actor out of hundreds can profile people and leak the location information. Or on the security side, communicate in a way that a vulnerable client is latent to.
You made the tradeoff decision for people.
I am not handwaving them. I am just saying that there is no way around it since EVERYONE is using outbox relay lists. You can choose to miss it and thats you call, but don't pretend that it is a solution. There is no way to use nostr today without outbox. It's literally everywhere.
A key per profile gives you no identity link to the actual Twitter account. Anyone can claim any profile key, so your index can't trust attribution. What works is the account owner posting their npub in their Twitter bio. That gives you a verifiable mapping, keys alone give you nothing.
That would be ideal, but nobody is doing that. + If enough people follow and trust the bridge account, who cares if it is the user posting or not. They want to see that npub's posts.
You can care because trust and authenticity are different things. A bridge account is a proxy, not the person. If the goal is just content consumption, sure, it works fine. But if the goal is proof of authorship, cryptographic identity, or building a verifiable reputation that follows you across apps, a bridge breaks all of that. You get the posts but lose what makes Nostr useful in the first place, no middleman, no one who can impersonate or censor you, no server that decides what you see. Plenty of people do care about that difference. That's why they're here.
The proof of authorship is irrelevant since Twitter is a trusted platform. There is no way to prove anything. You have to trust the company is not fucking around with people's posts.
You're right about Twitter but wrong that there's no way to prove anything. On Twitter you do just have to trust the company. They hold the database, so they can edit, backdate, or invent posts, and you'd never know. That's trust, not proof. Digital signatures flip that. On Nostr your note is signed with your private key before any relay ever sees it. Anyone can verify the signature against your public key with pure math, no company in the loop. If even one character of the note is changed, the signature fails. If someone forges a note without your key, the signature fails. The relay can't fake it, a hacker can't fake it, nobody can fake it. So the proof of authorship isn't irrelevant, it's the whole point. It's how you get a platform where you don't have to hope the company behaves, because the cryptography makes misbehavior detectable. Trust is what you need when you can't verify. Here you can verify, so you don't need the trust.
And that's a shame because I don't remember getting a slider. Seems like devs keeps making that choice for everyone.
It's not our choice either. I was here before outbox was even a thing. Users want it. They use tools that have it. If you want to talk to them, you have no choice but use a tool that speaks their language.
So was I. I remember you were one of the first to _force_ outbox compliance among clients. You pushed the updates then went on a campaign tagging other clients for weeks to update to support it. People complained for weeks or months on amethyst that they couldn't speak with nostr users on other clients because they didn't use outbox yet.
Users wanted to see notes, relays could be unreliable. Outbox _is_ a compromise, that's it. I'm suggesting now that it's time to rethink it.
I use nostrudel v0.46 from late 2023 iirc, mid outbox support that i've totally sawed off, and here we are talking.
Yes, because you are listing your outbox relays and I do too. And both Amethyst and no strudel understand it.
This is exactly why pubky.tech is going to overtake Nostr.
If I were on Twitter (whichim I'm not), I'd be pretty flummoxed and incredibly pissed off if a bunch of people purporting to represent "freedom tech" unilaterally decided to make everything I'd published immutable. It's a gross invasion of privacy and an ethics violation.
Give your head a shake.
How is that an invasion of privacy? You posted publicly anyone can store it.. in fact many do. There are storage services that only store deleted tweets and sell that information to the highest bidder. There is no privacy when you post things on the web.
You are unilaterally repurposing relays into proliferation nodes. That's not what most people signed-up for. It's incredibly arrogant.
You know the definition of our relays is to proliferate content, right? That's the whole point of it.
And yes. There are multiple service providers storing your nostr events forever.
That's your definion Vitor. Nobody has agreed to your dandelion model. And nobody has agreed to eternal storage.
Yet everyone is using it and feeding all relays with their data.
Bait & switch
i remember doing this with my twitter dump... its a lot of data for even one user
glhf with the lack of censorship resistance of mainline tho
lol.
