Holy shit. I was listening to him say this quote EXACLY as I scrolled to your note and read it in my head. Powerful, holy moment for me.
He asked "at which point do we start taking away their authorities?"
I think its now. Look around.
We need the metaphorical equivalence of a milestone somewhat like the declaration of independence.
I could see it being more of a personal pledge, a commitment really, a list of guiding principles that that could serve as a foundation for identifying the collective.
I am so worried that we will never have true freedom of speech. We will never have true freedom to transact. We will never have privacy. Ever. The cameras are everywhere. The microphones are everywhere. All our transactions are cataloged...watched. All of our interactions everywhere with everyone and everything is cataloged...watched.
And maybe for some of us that amounts to nothing. But to someone like Mr. Snowden, who was simply trying to tell the world that their privacy had died, it amounted to something.
This was an incredible speech and I hope someone(s)...somewhere, someday hears this speech and has the ability to help free humanity from the digital and physical prison that continues to grow all around us.
Build. Wherever any of you are please build.
And if you don't know how to build, do something. Anything.

I think centralized social media has done more damage to society than what he leaked. He should be able to come home.
So, obfuscation layers, abstracts, and other various forms of talking in code still isn't the goal... Yet, it's the only tool some people have right now.
And teaching everyone really isn't feasible - nor practical... It turns into a clusterfunk anyway.
So what can people really do?
I honestly don't think people are going to have an answer for a long time.
Privacy is dying and intelligence agencies are getting dumber.

💯 Packed room in Amsterdam for this one. Stream conditions weren’t perfect, but his words had a heavy impact. His tone is a bit alarmist I would say, but he’s making a great point nonetheless. And, indeed, you can’t ignore the fact that the world has a privacy problem, and that price tickers + acting in secrecy isn’t actually solving anything. We need to get busy, have fun, and build the Web we had dreamt of in the 90s. And it does start with Bitcoin and Nostr!

It's sad that he isn't more celebrated, or his, Glenn Greeneald's, and Laura Poitras's work even acknowledged by the masses.
I'm happy to see that he is still making contributions and has a voice. I'm sure there are people that help make that happen, given his exile, and I appreciate that.

And he is right and spot on with everything - there is so much of distraction even within the bitcoin ecosystem and what drives the price instead of creating that value for it. The irony about Lenin, he was in London for 2 decades and charted Marxism from there mostly, before the revolution happened.
