I really wish Nostr was more than β‘ππ£ lol
itβs so cringe.. normal content is nonexistent, but the protocol itself is very cool
atproto is a good mix

Protocol is very cool. But content is incredibly repetitive, you're right.
And get ready, people will point you to "normal content", but this will mostly just be bitcoin people posting about non-bitcoin stuff, so bitcoin people post about food, or bitcoin people post about sports.... what you won't find much of is non-bitcoin people posting stuff.
The reason there are so many bit liners is because bitcoiners evangelized it to other bitcoiners.
I dunno. I'm fine with this arrangement, but you can go just as easily evangelize it to the mid curves.
Than bring on non bitcoiners bro
It's not financially sustainable, that's my biggest issue. Nostr zoomed out is bleeding too much money each month. It has to grow and earn, and to grow and earn it has to attract all sorts of people with all sorts of interests.
Tried. It's like bringing non-bikers to a biker bar. Just doesn't work. No matter how good you tell them the beer is they take one look around and go 'cleary not for me', then see ya.
totally agree, just a bunch of NGU bros
Leveraged Bitcoin as branding and marketing from the start. It's actually a bad UX (*ducks for cover*) but I am only really here for the Bitcoin stuff and other P2P stuff.
content will come as soon as more people see the value, patience my friend .
Change the channel.
Relays are easy to understand, if you think of them like TV channels, with clients being the receiver.
If your relay is boring you, change your client to
wss://theforest.nostr1.com.

Sounds like you arenβt following enough peopleβ¦ I get a great mix of memes, gardening, food, music videos, etc., I just wish there were more paintball players on here.
Only 97 follows. The solution is follow less Bitcoin Bros, follow more normal people.
Exactly
I don't mind the bitcoin stuff, but i'm here mostly for the protocol stuff. And also Cashu, but with an eye on USDT via taproot (*also ducks for cover*).
Where can we find the Bitcoin haters on Nostr? I'd follow them for balance.
I think you're looking for the monero folks.
Do monero people generally dislike bitcoin? I'll do that for balance. Who's the leader of the Nostr monero clan?
Dude youβre only following 97 people! Expand your horizons, diversify in weirdness.. follow people you disagree with. Follow people from other countries. Nostr isnt going to spoon feed you- youβve gotta make it work for you!
I honestly don't know, I ignore most of that. I'm mostly here for fun, making jokes and silly memes. There's lots of that here.
To the back, third from the right youβll find all 6 of them there.
Whatβs normal content? Shit like this?
I will agree that content discovery is a challenge compared to other social media platforms.
It takes more effort to build a decent feed but once you have it itβs worth it
No, more like Leaky Zucchini
Itβs just Bitcoin content, AI slop and stuff like that
Iβve been on here since 2023, even interested in the protocol as to setting up my own (personal) relay at https://relay.j4ck.xyz!
Just wish it wasnβt so tied to crypto since the bubble is so loud. I donβt even disagree with the prob up Al too much.. π
some relays actually have moderation, like wss://theforest.nostr1.com you can find a lot more people there, Stella likes to have lots of good people added to the whitelist.
Why are you not following me ππ₯Έ

Easy there! some of us are family NGU bros
Am normal? Post food, yarn, and other random things...I also did a little exploring and found people I was interested in following and dicovered that you can mute words you don't want to see. I have a great time on the nostr and most days get a giggle out of something the nostrfriends are up to. #youcanjustmutewords
Walmart kiddie pool depth in this statement
That's the stuff
Keep Nostr Normal
I like it sloppy

right... kind of a no-shit sherlock moment here... as hodl recently put it, sounds like a case of insufferable incuriousity.
Where's the balance sheet that shows this.
This. Bluesky is just rebuilding a worse version of 2016 cancel culture Twitter. Nostr is building for the future, and not just for social media. It's in beta, so it's not perfect, but shows great promise.
Open sats putting in over $500k per month as of 1.5 years ago, surely that's a fair amount higher now? And then HRF, and then VCs like Ten31 and Hivemind, etc. And Jack's latest $10m for andotherstuff to last a year or two. Could be well over $1m per month right now, mostly going to developer salaries. Maybe $2+ million, who knows? Money coming back in the form of actual income (subscriptions, etc) is a negligible fraction of that.
If the developers stop getting this funding then they'll find other work and the protocol will atrophy, become much smaller with fewer projects maintained by die-hards in their spare time. Happens pretty much every time mass initial funding dries up without healthy recurring revenue streams to take the place. So it's a real gamble right now.
OUR TINY NON PROFIT TEAM HAS REVIEWED AND APPROVED OVER $3M IN NOSTR OPEN SOURCE GRANTS IN ~6 MONTHS.
WE ARE CURRENTLY SENDING OUT OVER $500K WORTH OF BITCOIN EVERY MONTH TO OPEN SOURCE CONTRIBUTORS.
WE ARE FUNDING 21 OPEN SOURCE NOSTR CLIENTS.
PATIENCE. WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED.

I think this highlights what social media has truly become for a lot of people; entertainment.
If it was about connecting with friends, the "Following" feeds would be all we need, but the "FYP" dominates.
There's no difference between turning on the TV and opening TikTok/Instagram for a lot of people. They want stimulus and entertainment.
I don't think so. It's just a question of people not being interested in bitcoin, but when then check out Nostr bitcoin is absolutely unavoidable. If you don't find bitcoin, bitcoin will find you. There's no escape.
Would you stay around if you found a new social network protocol but everything on it was people discussing Warhammer 40,000 and there was no way you could escape it Warhammer 40,000 no matter how you tried?
Agreed - but very different audiences / population sizes though.
Atproto has 38m+ people; it will have more diverse content probabilistically
Nostr is much more niche and more people are here from an ideological perspective, so the content converges towards the ideology
Hopefully we reach a point where apps are built on these protocols without people knowing/caring; they're just apps that work in the way they want them to and diversity takes care of itself
But yes, I'd love to find more "normal" people on Nostr who enjoy topics outside of btc
Yeah I get what you're saying but I think it still ties back to what people expect in a social network nowadays, which is near-immediate satisfaction upon arrival.
Agreed it's impossible to avoid btc convos regardless though, which makes switching to nostr hard and retention even harder
Yup, feels like if other communities are to take root it'll have to be in a space where they are fully insulated from the hyperbitcoin community here, as in a technical barrier. Maybe even a soft fork.
All those grantees with zero long term plan whatsoever....
Like children that received their first pocket money.
On to the next uncle they can point their cute dev eyes at.
"It's for the common good, uncle!"
Low time preference, riiiiight? :padme:
Fuck welfare, riiiiight? :padme:
Hey jack! Violinist and composer here posting daily music videos on Nostr for the last 3 weeks! Still new but loving the protocol and vibe so plan to stick around. Check it out if you want some different content in your feed!! πππ
Paintball?
Been a decade since I played, but when I was a teenager we opened a paintball field (in a converted barn loft, and bought an inflatable field etc) - probably one of the first 25 paintball fields in Ontario at the time. It was so expensive back then (not that it cheap now).
What's your paintball backstory?
Not sure this solves your problem - but we created an Audio Drama
When Lauren and Ellie inherit their late uncleβs cabin, she uncovers more than family secretsβshe finds a hidden world built on buried clues, Bitcoin, and a mystery decades in the making.
Told entirely through voicemails, group chats, and audio messages, Mysteries of the Bitcoin Citadel is a cinematic fiction podcast that blends family, suspense, and Bitcoin culture into one immersive experience.
But if you're looking for a fun mystery - check us out on fountain.

@Yarnlady π§Ά
@Dawn
@OpenMike
@Movie Archive
@kinostr
@GHOST
@bitpunk.fm is typing
@Micah C. Miracle
This is just of the top of my head.
How active are they now is the question.
Have you tried jacking off?
Someone send him to global
Curate your TL
I want more Bitcoin content not less
Blusky went totally offline for a full day and those clowns π€‘ still have the unmitigated audacity to call it "decentralized" lol
So you don't dislike the content, you dislike the people posting it?
Wow you sound fucked up lol
Fixed haha
Dreamed I was an Eskimo...
No. Most of us are (early) Bitcoiners with an actual need for privscy.
We hold and use both.
Hahaha was this recently?
Honestly my Nostr feed is almost exclusively gardening, farming and cooking. You are the algorithm and thewhole thing gets better as you choose who and what to follow.
I think you just called me normal π my plan is working π€£

He had the unmitigated audacity to jump up from behind my igloo and started into whippin' on my favorite .... baby seal!
With a lead filled snowshoe.
I am just waiting for someone to promote a bitcoin church on here zapping Jezuz
Got into paintball the mid 90s and played tournament ball for about a dozen teams. Part owner of a couple fields and stores back in the early 2000sβ¦ got burned playing serious stuff a couple years into xball and now just play for fun when I can now. Expensive, π not like it was back when you and I had fields probably. I try to tell kids about spending $90 for a case of brown box RP Scherer paint back in the 90s. Now my $300 gun shoots better than my $2000 gun from 2002. Do you still play?
And we love it so much ππ«
Nice. That's a deep Bitcoin history.
Yeah paint was ridiculous, times when in Canada we were paying $120+ for good paint - wild days. Ton of fun though. I haven't really played since the mid 2000's (couple times after that for bachelor parties etc).
I've got a nephew a couple years away from likely taking an interest in it - maybe that'll be an excuse to get back into it.
I like the content and the people, well mostly, but I also recognize the bitcoin centricity is hurting growth and nostr really needs to grow.
Im not sure what the solution is. But whatever it is it does not involve more bitcoin.
It involves the dumbasses who haven't bought bitcoin yet swallowing their pride and getting on nostr so they can shitpost and earn some sats
Nostr needs them more than they need nostr, that's the dynamic here. Nostr as an wider ecosystem is bleeding I imagine well over $1m per month, it needs lot of people to bring their own money, money that nostr devs can channel to their own pockets. So the attitude has to be warm and accommodating.
More active than on Bitcoin network π and made more posts about their trade than about Bitcoin - active enough to make my point :)
List thenpubs, I'll happily follow!
Check #artlist first, I didnβt onboard them but thatβs non Bitcoin content I aggregate
Especially do follow @ieva_lightphotography you just made me notice she is more active than I was aware π€©
My mom @ArciauGamtos
To make your point I cannot find a few more npubs quickly cause thatβs how inactive they are. This reminds me to do better. And for you: do better :D if you donβt try you donβt succeed. Gotta go to work now:D
What do you think about skin care? I think I will be big fan of retinol. Srsly thinking that skin care should be a thing here...
if nostr clients/apps are as good as mastodons, more people would be here imo
And that is why Iβm also not as active - I donβt understand what I can do to change it. But I am still here - but in a different capacity because I mostly see only Bitcoin stuff and I like that but not Only that. I use Mastodon more, which has the ActivityPub protocol.
Create the content you want to see on nostr, and as you do this you will find more and more accounts also posting the content you want to see!!
Nice, i'm following your mom, that's refreshing.
I hope sheβll start posting more travel pics :D
Do your know @GlobalTraces by the way?
Yeah I took a little time off when my teenage son was little, but then got back into it, just playing walk on at the nearest field and played some small tournaments there too.
