For all those 'mericans that are in "panic mode" using Phoenix, here is what you should do: 1. Save you phoenix seed. 2. Uninstall from app store (because is linked to your account) 3. Install app from their github, without any fucking app store 4. Restore from seed. Done, be happy and ignore all the shit. If you still use an apple shit, drop it now and take an android, de-googled and do those steps. If you still want to use your fancy apple crap... sorry but you have been warned.

You can't think for yourself? The app by default is opening a LDK node on the mutinywallet.com domain, where reside a Mutiny server run by dev team. Yes, you have the control of the keys and node, but if that domain goes busted, you cannot access your node. That is not different than any custodial. Think again. Run your own server and connect your device to it. Done.

You should serve the UI from a machine under your contol. If their site is going down, you can't access the wallet. unless you restore it on some other lnd instance from a seed. and hopefully with you channels backup to restore all the funds.
tru. I think darth is a little bit fundamentalist-ish ragarding the self-sovergnity. That's why I believe you don't talk about the same thing. but hey, it's just my interpretation...
Is uninstall really necessary? I would argue that if the apk on github is signed with the same key, which it should, then just update from there. No uninstall required or even recommended as by keeping the continuity you automatically verify the signature of the side-loaded apk to be by the same keys that signed the Play Store version.

That guide is for the most adventurous ones but it doesn't answer my question. If you just keep Phoenix installed, you should be able to even get updates from Google Play and if not, updating from a direct download should be safer than to remove Phoenix, first. If you want to continue using Phoenix, removing it is definitely the wrong choice. The Play Store app would let you uninstall side-loaded apps and if they are signed by the same keys, you could even update side-loaded apps from Google Play. Uninstalling to install from GitHub makes no sense at all unless they signed with a different key. If you uninstall, you risk to lose funds and you inevitably end up incurring on-chain fees.
So your OP says: Uninstall from Play Store, install from GitHub. That is what I recommend against as it won't make a difference from the perspective of Play Store. It just means messing around with your wallet app and those who forget to make a good backup will inevitably lose funds for nothing. The Play Store doesn't care if you used it to install an app or not. It lets you uninstall apps you did not install using it and it lets you update apps oblivious of the sideloaded app not being signed by the same key. The Play Store app would just issue an obscure error if the signature was from a different key. Unless you de-google your phone in the process, uninstalling is completely unnecessary and only dangerous. Unless Phoenix is planning to force-close on its US users, there is no need to follow their instructions to close channels before a date neither. I hope they stir drama for drama sake only cause in panic is when people lose their funds.
I just did myself the test on a separate device with Google play + an old Phoenix wallet. Had like 2000 sats in it, legacy Phoenix even. 1. Saved the seed 2. Uninstalled from Google Play. 3. Download from Github the apk and install it 4. restored with seed 5. Funds were there just fine. 6. In Google Play account do not appear anymore as installed
That must have changed then. But still, even if you keep it installed on Google Play: installing updates via sideloading should just work. The uninstall step is unnecessary.
So I spent some time looking for a cellphone that is both available in Chile and known to work with Lineageos and I can't find any. Sadly we are far from de-googling being easy ☹️

Using with or without google play services? I’m struggling without and thinking about adding it just to improve my battery life

The current amount of #privacy respecting #android #roms is something to behold. You no longer need a flagship #pixel device to #degoogle so you better start ASAP. Just go thru the supported devices list of these projects and you will surely find a very cheap device to begin already. You night even have one forgotten in some drawer! - #calyxos - #divestos - #eOS - #grapheneos - #iodeOS - #lineageos View quoted note →

You have been warned. Selling that iShit will give you more money to buy not 1 but 2 android devices. No need to buy an ultra-extra fancy latest model of android. A cheap android with lineage / calyx / graphene can handle all you need to use Bitcoin.
Don't forget to take some personal accountability. If you recommended this product to someone, you did it with full knowledge that this could have happened. The only way to stay sovereign is to do it all yourself and to lift others up to do the same. Unless it takes exactly zero pressure for you to cave and put the responsibility onto someone else.
What the fuck you babbling about? Im fucking annoyed by these cowards, nothing more. You are more than welcome to not put words in my mouth and not accuse me of saying something Im not saying.

PSA: in Android (including GrapheneOS, and most likely all other forks), any installed app can see all other installed apps, even if they were installed from different sources. Every app/service on your phone will still be able to see that you have Phoenix installed if they care to look. On GrapheneOS, you could install Phoenix in a different user profile by itself or with only other apps that you trust not to share info.
You can use #Obtainium to do this for many apps. It'll manage updates too. Not all apps will handle updates automatically.

if I could zap you I would, thanks for this, never heard of it before
they arent doing any such thing. they are blocking ips by location. so i assume american bros would have to be on vpn always while using phoenix. which you already should be doing 24/7, preferrably something good and paid for anonymously like mullvad or ivpn
If you will use Obtainium to get apps directly from their github, you can just put in the search box the name and you will get the link. Then Obtainium will just alert you when a new release is available.
