Bitcoiners always talked about nostr in monero conferences, after all we share the same values regarding sovereignty and permissionless tech.

I'm not one of them, but since Nostr can be so much more than a maxi echo chamber, I'm in favor.
I've been here for a couple years, always a Monero user. Following you on Mastodon helped me convert to Nostr. It's the principles of freedom and autonomy -- shared by all Moneroans. But If someone talked up Monero in the past here, everyone would slam them as poopcoiners, even though they share these principles. Yet there's room for rational co-existence with BTC and XMR. No one (at least not me) cares to hear idolatrous talk of either, as if crypto will save society from all its ills, or how it will make them filthy rich. Greed is not appealing, and the extreme BTC obsession hurts Nostr. Conversely, talk of free, permissionless financial transactions -- by whatever means -- is more attractive, but more than that are communities of good people whose balanced lives aren't centered on crypto.

Love to see this receptivity and been a lot of positivity from the Monero community on Nostr lately. Most engagement I've had in a while were posts based around Monero. Privacy tech = Freedom tech

monero users come from the same place as bitcoiners, and future eCashers for fiatjaf, but maybe with a more aggressive approach, and gravitated here because we can just share notes and other stuff via relays without asking for permission :D maybe we need permission from relay operators, but relays are like roads in ancapistan

Twitter sucks because of all the censorship. Freedom and censorship resistent tech always wins. Nostr > X Monero > Bitcoin
I don't honestly care about whether Nostr is powered by a Bitcoin-like signature, I care about Nostr due to its decentralised architecture. I believe that is also the same for other Monero users
Funny thing is they have always been here, some have stayed silent because they were both bitcoiners and monerists and we have maintained a "maxi" chamber about Bitcoin. Now that Nostr is in the deep of the bear market they are coming out surface sharing value and making some noise. But I remember always there was a #xmr conversation, they were there also sharing thoughts and xaps generously.
After coinkite and the Luke vs core vs Bitcoin and everything else, most of the lightning fags went back to Twitter The monero folks are already deplatformed from twitter etc. Unlike the lightning fags most of them don't have anywhere to go back to. They've been on nostr the entire time, you didn't notice before because so many lightning fags were distracting you
there are many people who are MULTI coin - NOT MAXI fuck dickheads of anycoin all came from planet earth - copy ditto. 💐😍 BTW ditto has many cool features. BE MULTI-COIN BE MULTI-APP BE MULTI-RELAY best approach

curious how many here boasted that after the fork of bitcoin and the application of the blake2b algorithm nothing would happen and that everything would be as usual, when lately I have noticed how many no longer use saps much apart from the fact that many of the chains and servers to receive payments that they considered resistant, began to be hacked and all in less than a month. although I feel that this was also a good thing for NOSTR, because I see fewer and fewer people talking about bitcoin and I am beginning to see how artists and several who considered themselves loyal to NLD are now starting to use monero and many are starting to talk about other things. things. apart from the fact that I discovered that primal was an echo chamber where only bitcoin was talked about and to find other topics, it was only necessary to stay away from the users who normally appear in the primal feed
I agree i think it's good for nostr long term. With less Bitcoin talk drowning everything else out other niche subjects actually get some traction.
Agree. Nostr needs a diversity of groups and thought. Monero bros are the only meaningful non-Bitcoin-centric group of folks that have migrated to nostr. We are all believers in freedom, we just have different ideas on how to get there sometimes. That's okay. View quoted note →
Great to hear. In the end it is far more important, what common ground people share, than where we diverge. Since for differences mostly ignorance is the needed action. And for common ideas, cooperation is what speeds up our utopia coming true. 🙌
I guess I could consider myself in that camp. Honestly, what got me hooked here was my first zap. After a few months of grinding on YouTube to meet their minimum cutoffs for monetization (still nowhere close btw, nor will I be in 100 years at this rate... And I notice deliberate algorithmic throttling), I got zapped almost right away on my first few posts here on nostr. I think that this freedom of association is the main selling point of nostr, and it applies equally to creatives, political dissidents, and more: you can build a community on here and remove the artificial barriers instantly. You might not be rich (I know that my content is pretty niche and not what some people want no matter how good I get), but the lack of boundaries means I can get SOMETHING for my work without asking permission from anyone but my audience. And that is a powerful message for all sorts of people struggling through artificial barriers of all kinds right now, be they YouTube or their national government.

Censorship-resistance through decentralization; freedom of speech. …Truth is not always popular or even liked. image
I always thought censorship resistant twitter and nostr as a protocol were good ideas. I came and left a few years ago because the 99% Bitcoin maxi content and feature focus wasn't interesting, and Twitter was more interesting. Then nitter received the cease and desist letter a few weeks ago and I thought enough is enough. Thought I'd check out nostr again. At first I was disappointed that the features were all mostly still Bitcoin maxi heavy (zaps, NWC, Cashu wallets), and it was difficult to find interesting content. I've found that the maxi culture content has simmered down, and people are reasonably more receptive to Monero around here. There seem to be a high number of intelligent people using nostr and engaging in interesting discussions, hearing rational arguments. That gives me hope and makes me appreciate this place. I'm also finding it very enjoyable to dunk mercilessly on silly Bitcoin maxis. It's very easy and I get good endorphins from that too. I'm using nostr more than other social medias in the past. I may stay awhile.
