Elon Musk is a highly intelligent man. He knows humanity cannot become a Kardeshev Type I (and certainly not a Kardeshev Type II) species under a high time preference fiat monetary system. A low time preference sound money system is required. Elon is thinking about the next 100, 500, and 1000+ years. He knows there is only one money that will enable humanity to reach its full potential both today and long after he is gone: Bitcoin. Gold won't work as money for a spacefaring people for many obvious reasons, not least of which is the fact that gold is extremely plentiful in space. Additionally, gold failed as money for humanity when we were earthbound. Gold is extremely useful, but it is bad money compared to bitcoin. Gold was money for humanity's low-tech epoch. Bitcoin is money for humanity's high-tech epoch. Gold is the past, fiat is an unfortunate blip in the present, and Bitcoin is the future. Elon is one of the smartest people on the planet. He knows this. He knows Bitcoin is absolutely finite. 21M forever. He is the richest man in the world. He wants to preserve that wealth for many generations to ensure his dreams become reality long after he is gone. Gold and fiat do not allow this. But with Bitcoin, he can create time-locked vaults in cyberspace that open after specific amounts of time have passed. This ensures his companies/initiatives/descendants will always be extremely well funded, but will not be able to simply waste all his wealth as soon as he is gone. We know both Elon and his companies own bitcoin, but lately people are wondering why he never publicly talks about it. In fact, he almost seems to deliberately avoid opportunities to talk about bitcoin... Why? Because Elon knows this is a race, and the winners of this race will cement their economic power for generations. Elon knows that, as the man with the biggest megaphone in the world, if he comes out with a full throated endorsement of bitcoin, then the race accelerates exponentially... Elon wants to take humanity to the stars. This is only possible with Bitcoin because Bitcoin makes long-term thinking possible on a planetary (and interplanetary) scale. Bitcoin fixes the broken incentives of the fiat system which mortgage humanity's future to fund its decadent present. Elon is going to acquire as much bitcoin as he possibly can to ensure his vision for the future of humanity as a spacefaring species is realized. tl;dr -- you should not be suprised if it turns out that Elon has been quietly stacking an insane amount of bitcoin.

Dumb question, but if there's a finite amount of Bitcoin, could someone (like Elon), theoretically acquire all of it, and then no trading can be done using it because no one else has any, and so it loses it's use as money?

No. If he'd try to gobble up all coins, he'd run out of USD, and more importantly sellers, before he gets it all.
Does Elon have Bitcoin? Of course he does, he's been stacking Bitcoin since his PayPal days. But why does he not talk about it? Not because he wants to go to the stars or any of that bs. Elon is a fiat welfare queen and Bitcoin stops his grift and he can't game Bitcoin the way he games fiat and the juicy government contracts. Why you think he keeps pumping dodgecoin ffs? It's the same reason he never talks about electro magnetics and anti gravity... It may be good for humanity but it's bad for elons bottom line. Go to space and progress humanity? Ha you're funny!
Nah, Elon is part of the psyop as is Trump. The only difference is that he is still keeping up the appeareances that he is the saviour, while Trump already shows his real agenda (warmongering / technocracy / NWO). Elon hates #Bitcoin, that's why he is always pumping shitcoins and cancelled the Bitcoin emoi on X. He needs a centralised shitcoin for the distopian AI governed globalist society where he, Trump and Thiel are going for. You have to be a massive fool to think that Elon is a 'good guy'. You really think you get permission to shoot rockets into space, launch satelites, build brain chips ect. without being arm deep in the ass of the state? LOL.
I'd like to believe this, but you might be giving him too much credit. Have you heard his response to @preston on Twitter spaces a while back? He didn't sounded legitimately irritated and threatened to leave the chat if he kept asking questions. Elon is many things, but I don't think an actor is one of them.

The idea that Elon is one of the smartest people in the world is truly bizarre and unfounded. Plus, he is fiat to the core.
Im pretty certain Bitcoin reveals the Kardashev Scale is obsolete. It assumes space is a blank canvas, a neutral container of energy to be harvested. But Bitcoin reveals space is not fundamental. Space is derived. Time is inseparable from irreversible memory through the resolution of entropy; space and time are emergent. In this frame, the longest chain is not just economic (energetic) truth, it is universal structure. Stop asking where in space and start asking where in memory at what time. How much of space is transactions of the past and how much is transacting in the present? How much is “spent”, yet eternally auditable? Earth is the longest chain of thermodynamic work in the known universe. Every fossil, every structure, every block of irreversible memory sealed in proof-of-work. Consciousness follows the longest chain. This seemingly answers for the Fermi paradox. To leave Earth is to fork. Not from a currency but from the only chain that holds meaning. It doesn’t matter if you bring Bitcoin with you. You are still abandoning the longest chain of universal work. A motion detached from history. A future divorced from its own cause. Bitcoin doesn’t make space colonization better. It exposes the lie at its core: You can’t escape entropy. You can’t fork the truth. A Kardashev-scale civilization without memory is a mirage; energy without commitment. Motion without meaning. The future isn’t out there in space. The future is built into the longest chain of work. Bitcoin, not crypto. Earth, not space. There is no second best.

Also, don’t be surprised if he has NOT. pure intellectual intelligence is not sufficient to “see” bitcoin for what it truly is, IMO 👁️🪬🧬 🦋 To see deeper down the rabbit hole, it seems one must begin to bring their right and left brain into coherence. An overly strong Ego (and/or unresolved personal trauma) inhibits this process. Many on Nostr are writing about this more and more. Worth considering. That’s all.
Hopium. I admire Elon for his achievements but he is a flawed man like all of us. And he has a problem with “Ego”. I think it bothers him that he can’t put his name or mark on the great development that is Bitcoin. He will more likely create a side chain to Bitcoin code call it Butcoin for fun and implement it on Mars.
We are experiencing it right now with the balance in exchanges going down everyday. It’s not like if there are no more the price goes down. It’s not like goes up until somebody wants banks to sell
wish there was proof of this other than your thinking... his one public company, tesla, would have to disclose their purchases of bitcoin. they have made no new purchases that i'm aware of... so again, while its nice wishful thinking, i don't see any proof (in either his words or actions) of this being true

Calling going to Mars a divorce is a bit hard, there will still be a connection to the chain on Earth

He is intelligent, but I don't have the feeling that he thought that through.
What does Mars offer that Earth does not? And why do we need it? Earth is the longest-running ledger of resolved entropy in the known universe. All novelty is here. - Is Mars more habitable than Earth? - Does Mars offer better thermodynamic conditions? - Can Mars extend the longest chain, or does it risk forking from it? - Is this migration rooted in truth or escapism? - Even if inhabiting mars was practical (it’s not) mars would not be able to maintain consensus with Bitcoin due to light distances exceeding 10 minutes depending on the location, how will it remain chained physically? Leaving Earth might be possible, but what problem does it solve that we can’t solve here with Bitcoin (the quantum computer)? If we can’t resolve entropy here, why replicate failure there? Also, while I do want to keep the arguments scientific in nature, i think there is something behind the idea that Satan would want you to leave earth. If you want to go, I won’t stop you.

Reasons he doesn’t btc harder: he thinks it’s boring; that building is better; he can’t be the saviour of Bitcoin; ego; he has benefited hugely from fiat

Search all the great useful products and services Elon Musk has created and then tell me what other human being has been just as prolific. You expect perfection and continually forage for flaws. He is the only person I know that says what he thinks and does what he wants. And we're lucky that he wants Grok to be truthful. A reflection of himself. I celebrate the man - especially for what he brings to the crippled. And a future for the blind. He's human. He proves that every day. My one concern - the everything app - supported by data collection. I'm willing to follow his endeavors, because he definitely makes the world a better place.

I smoke cigarettes so I'm a druggie. I'm flawed and I'm still working on it. I hate pettiness so yeah I deny your claim. Why would I want his money. I'm too puny for him to even notice. Its people like you that make a living out of complaining. Google his accomplishments. It is amazing. It might even infect the pair of us to create useful dialogue.
Elon is a fucking parasite sucking wealth from honest, productive Americans. He wants to form a dystopia of mass surveillance, UBI and all the same Klaus Shwab WEF bullshit. Not only that but he is a clown and I don't even think he is as smart as most people think. Starlink is cool, no one is going to argue against that, but so what? If I could access almost unlimited government funding, I would hire the best engineers in the world and I could make a bunch of cool shit. I hope if he buys bitcoin he never self-custody and ends up losing it all for being a sucker. GN frens View quoted note →
brother c’mon! He is not the richest man in the world, we all know that. Much less the smartest... Did he really think he was going to lower the U.S. deficit? Really? or did he just this year discover how the monetary system works from which he benefits enormously? It's a fucking show, and he's part of it.
Elon Musk is just a guy who was born with money and used the money to invest in companies that other people started. We live in the age of information, you have no excuse for being so ignorant and worshipping someone like Elon. Guy has not contributed a single positive thing to humanity.

He also co-founded one the stupidest and most exploitative payment transfer platforms in the world - PayPal.
Elon, Elon, Elon... Anyone thinking that you can be one of the wealthiest in the world (in terms of stock-exchange listed assets) and have such partners/shareholders in your companies and be someone who does not bend the knee to the system is grossly mistaken. As soon as he says or does something slightly unconventional or which threatens the "system" someone like Larry Fink gently whispers in his ear and brings him back to his senses. By the "System" I mean the following: He may well like #bitcoin, like we all do and also Larry Fink does. Though for very diverse reasons. We, want to change the system, be free and protect our wealth. He and Fink have different reasons. Regardless do not expect anything from Musk as you should not expect anything from Fink or Trump. They thrive in the fiat world of unlimited credit creation. How can they want to change that? What are their incentives? #bitcoin only can force a change of incentives, slowly, by growing adoption. @gladstein Trojan Horse's theory is right. And whoever adopts #bitcoin, for whatever reasons, is welcome and accelerates the transition. We shall concentrate ONLY in doing our part, stacking, holding our keys and running our nodes. And always keep in mind how the predatory "system" works, what are the incentives and who benefits.

We can agree to disagree. To be fair - if gaming was my interest - Gabe Newall is a rockstar, in that industry. In comparison -- Elon Musk's creations, innovations, thought processes in different fields of tech, transport, energy, communication, space travel, robotics etc are very useful products that benefit mankind for a very long time.

There is some truth to it. The conquest of space can only be driven by men and machines thirsty for capsules of energy and time. Just as sailors conquered new continents with promises of gold, Bitcoin will be the interplanetary—and perhaps temporal—pass. The reversal of the natural aging process, call it death, or techniques like cryogenics or time leaps, will only be accompanied by capsules of Bitcoin, time, and energy. It will be futile to sleep for 100 years, even if you have 100 million in your bank account. You will be cryogenized in Bitcoin, you will awaken in Bitcoin. Astronauts will travel in Bitcoin. You will die, but your race will endure in Bitcoin. You will be remembered eternally because you left time and energy for future generations, under certain conditions that represent your person, your ethics, and your civilization.

While I don't agree with Walker's take that Elon knows all I don't agree with your take either saying that he hasn't contributed a single positive thing. The correct answers probably somewhere in the middle.

You make it sound like Elon is working for humanity. If so, he would boast about bitcoin so everyone can grab some now rather than later. That would be humanitarian.
I have a 10 flight to London coming up and I want to be unconscious for the entire time. The thought of space travel sounds like absolute torture. Maybe humanoid robots will be the evolution of humanity, no need for the meat tubes. Waste of resources to send humans when a robot doesn’t need food, water, rest, climate control, medical, rescue,
