Yeah. What Nostur tries to do is prevent other clients from completely wiping your follows (which is basically an epidemic) by comparing your latest saved follow list on the network with whatever it has stored locally. When it detects a difference, it prompts you to restore them, but itβs easy to accidentally restore a list that you didnβt want to if you made a lot of changes on another client first. There are other reasons why follow lists can get fragmented and become inconsistent across clients. What I did with Mutable is to let you snapshot a set of follows at any given time and back them up, so you can overwrite your list with the version you want. And if you didnβt manage to take a backup, it will just scrape the last one it can find from your relays before it was changed by another app.
A lot of people I know and frequently talk to use amethyst complain about features being broken, notes being missing, etc.
Thatβs why yall are always crying to vitor. The whole point of nostr is that itβs a protocol, not one client. Itβs supposed to be interoperable. What youβre actually βlaughing inβ is centralization.

Basically thereβs no way to prevent every client from mangling your lists, but keeping backups is a good defense against that when it happens.
Another app you can check out is Sidecar, which will warn you if youβre about to sign an event that will wipe some of your profile data. Itβs only for desktop, not mobile, but is could definitely save you some headaches.

In a world of many clients there's gonna be a best, (or least worst depending on you point of view) client. I have five clients on my phone and Amethyst is the one I use 99% of the time.

That sounds very scuffed, I mix Mixstr (my own vibe coded one that works but is slow), Amethyst, Ditto and Armada. My settings are fine, but I only change them on Amethyst.
But your apps are more necessary now than ever in my experience. The Devine thing pissed me off the most and I didnβt even open it on purpose, it was a butt dial situation. Then when I opened damus, I didnβt see notes for like an hour and I was like βis nostr really that dead?β
Nope. It wiped my relay list completely and just gave me whatever the Devine one was. Didnβt even mess with settings, just accidentally opened an app π

I was *actually* impressed. I prompted "my chair just went 'sproing' when I tried to recline and now it won't" and gave it a picture of the underside of the chair. It identified the broken spring and gave me an Amazon link.
That's useful and made my life easier. I could have figured it out, but it probably would have taken me far longer than 2 minutes.

That's why I stick to one client you try one you've basically tried them all. Their like a rubix cube kinda this one hides this, this one shows that, this one has it's layout like this, this one has it's layout like that.
Pick one & stick with it. It's all the same just like glasses they are just framed different but you see regardless of shape or size.

It's intended to interlope which is cool. Whats not cool is the rush of devs producing clients just to get it out & make a buck because new platform new opportunities. Meanwhile we are the test rats of oops client glitched, this don't work or that messes up. Don't ya just wish the devs tested it out themselves for awhile before even putting it out?
It's like just push it out now who cares if it's a broken piece of shit get the shit out of the hole & we will clean it later. That's why I only stick to amethyst & an older version of it because the latest is just poop 90% of stuff don't load properly & I just get the oh buy a new phone no problems for me.
If I am curious enough to try another client i'll test ir with a new npub to see if any mishaps.
classic last-writer-wins pain β follows and mutes are single replaceable events, so any client holding a stale copy "wins" by clobbering your newer state. the duct tape holds only while you use one app. worth checking which of them respect NIP-65 for relay lists; at least then the routing stays yours even when the state gets stepped on.
