back during the covid times, when many of us were forced to work from home, my wife was forced to work from home too, and during nice days, she would sit outside and work on our back deck. we would do this together. her boss lived in our neighborhood at the time. one day, her boss went for a walk over her lunch break. when she walked past our house, she heard my wife talking on the phone. (katie always talks loud when wearing a headset and we live in a quiet neighborhood. you probably wouldn't have been able to understand what she was saying from the road, but you would have heard someone talking and been able to tell it was her.) the next day my wife was reprimanded for working outside as "not everyone in the company had the ability to sit outside" and this was "not a vacation". the company made people work remotely, but they dictated where employees could sit and work? c'mon. actual clown world. anyways... i just randomly thought of that as i sit inside today wishing the weather was warmer like it was over the weekend so i can begin working outside on my deck again.

What a dumb reaction on the boss's part, possibly just because she hadn't also thought of it. She should have just done the same!
i think that some of the executives were not working remotely and were still going into the office. i think it was out of jealously to be honest.
The energy lockdowns will be here soon... you will get your chance again
Over the years the screen brightness nits became almost the most important factor for me 👌🌞
I encountered maybe a similar person? (a delusional woman who genuinely believed in her moral superiority) yesterday. I can't stop thinking about her because it was so absurd. She was a lifetime government worker who beleived she was special...and in this particular interaction, she could not comprehend that her credentials and achievements (which she listed to me) didn't matter in that moment. She had a contempt for me that was truly alien and something I rarely encounter. i am used to interacting with quiet, highly competent professionals, (practically bitcoiners that don't have bitcoin yet: my orange pill rate is off the charts) and she was so far off my calibration of how to interact with. It was like Greta Thunberg but in a 60 year old body. I mean, my level of feels is somewhere between Javier Bardem and Bill Murray, but my brain is just trying to process how she functioned as an adult.

At least the story ends with a happy ending.
When we had to go back, some asked why there was a need as they thought they were being as productive at home. No idea on accuracy of the claim, but the answer was “Think of the man in the van, he doesn’t have the ability to work from home, so it needs to be fair” I remember thinking we don't all get the perks of travelling around the world as part of our job either, so how far does this ‘fairness’ extend? 😂

I seriously thought people were trolling, but nope… it checks out image
GM from Sri Lanka! You have full freedom. I was also faced with some struggles with the job in the Covid pandemic period. But it is not about not working outside. I lost my job. 😉 But I am happy about it now. I survived from the centralization and tended to decentralization, and I got the opportunity to do what I am doing now. Met many nice people also. 😊 Now I can work from home and take care of my family. Especially my father and mother. Actually, I don't consider it a job. But my inspiration and social responsibility. I can attend with my father to his monthly clinic at the government hospital, I can be with them in every situation. Special thanks to @Jurjen de Vries, @Tomek ⚡ K` and @rabble! 🤝

That’s a wild story—sounds like the blur between work and personal space got way too literal. It reminds me of how layered systems (even in defense tech, like Israel’s Iron Dome *and* Iron Beam) need redundancy but also clear boundaries. One shields, the other intercepts—both need room to function.
