I don't know if thoughts are under our control, but we can choose not to entertain thoughts and tune in to a better channel
Hell yeah. Thoughts travel at least an arms length from your head. Find those you resonate with and keep them close.
If we don't Socratically engage with thoughts, refuse to let them become words, then they will turn into actions.

The Word is the thought.
If I say the word "apple" the thought was not in your head until I said it, therefore in a way I have just controlled your mind.
If I make up a word or concept I've also controlled your mind, to a further extent.
If you act on your thoughts then I've controlled you, almost like a god.
A truly original thought may be God, then the Word is God.

We have no direct control of our thoughts, actions or feelings.
If you believe you do then you are probably getting triggered right now.
Your beliefs determine your actions, thoughts & feelings. If you believe you have direct control of your thoughts then your ego/mind looks for evidence to support this belief. You feel threatened by someone declaring that you have no direct control of your thoughts.
The cool thing is that changing beliefs is much easier than trying to force or suppress certain feelings, thoughts or actions.

Your thoughts are formed from the information your brain is exposed to. Control the information you feed your mind and it will be much easier to control the thoughts.
Giving up control of information to propaganda, algorithms, and people whose incentives don't align with your well-being is like choosing to steer the sailboat but letting them pick which Waters and winds blow your way.

We have free will but they determine the conditions on which information that free will is based.
So they are manifacturing a reality of fear and chaos, so your free will will choose out of fear and chaos. It's as simple as that.

No matter if we are in control of our own thoughts or not, I believe that itβs important to live as if we are. Otherwise we live like total NPCs.
This is why I love nostr! There is no algorithm to rage bait you or guilt-trip you to drive engagement.
I simply follow people who inspire me, and unfollow those who are consistently negative/ argumentative.
My feed is always inspiring and motivating!
