Either way.. Btc doesnt need him.
Yup!
Great video! Think we should definitely to continue to put social pressure on the surveillance/special powers stuff. Things like not accepting wasabi transactions/data breaches are expected from any type of company/gov and something completely different than the dictator stuff though. Wish that wasn’t in the video.
Well done, Joe! 👏

imho, the dictator term goes a bit far considering how democracy and justice has worked in balance in El Salvador and Bukele's presidency to address basic civil rights and security from extreme organized gang crime
El Salvador is not a large developed country like the US that has the public resources and constitutional consistency to separate security surveillance measures from many other civil rights including privacy
I appreciate the question. I'm more interested in solid examples of where Bukele's position as president with exceptional security and surveillance powers has violated Bitcoin-related and reasonable privacy rights to expect in context to El Salvadors policies on crime
Human rights aren‘t negotiable.
Bravo Joe! 🧡
@Evelin I have so much respect for your opinion on rights.
Would you please share what you think privacy human rights are? Consider in any answer the security past and situation for many El Salvadoran mothers and young daughters in my ask. 🇸🇻 🙏
Just watched it. Good work. Hard critic but well fundamented. Brave! Congrats!
@walker @Danny Knowles Have a conversation with Joe about El Salvador
El Salvador was so corrupt that if you tried to saved the country via the courts, you would never succeed because the judges and majority of politicians were part of the criminal circle. He said that himself from what I remember.
So yes, a "cool" dictator like he called himself was the only way to restore a country. I would do the same if I had the chance. The only problem is giving up that power once you have that power.
As you said, they keep renewing the emergency powers. I'm not following what's going on in El Salvador because I don't live there, but what needs to be done is reform the election system and reduce power from the government like separating the education away from the state. I'm not sure if they are actually reforming the election system.
What happened at start is that whoever made this plan under estimated Bitcoiners. They planned on targeting all the Bitcoiners in the world to move to El Salvador, so El Salvador could become the Singapore of Central America.
The problem is Bitcoiners are young and don't want to move to El Salvador and do nothing. They want to build a life and build a business or work for a good company that gives them a good wage. Unfortunately that isn't possible in El Salvador because it's a third world country and the world's system is a massive ponzi system which Bitcoin is trying to destroy.
Many other issues is, that Bitcoiners have no entrepreneurship experience because they live in a fiat system where working for a corporation is what most of the do.
Also, I'm skeptical that there that many rich Bitcoiners there is actually in the world to actually change El Salvador into a rich country. Bitcoiners are different than the fiat rich people. They are more frugal and careful with their money.
Whoever made this plan on trying to lure Bitcoiners into El Salvador doesn't understand the power of the fiat system and possibly believes that most Bitcoiners kept their Bitcoin.
The plan failed to attract enough Bitcoiners and now El Salvador is pivoting into attracting fait rich people or ordinary fiat people to travel and spend their money in El Salvador.
I'm not sure who planned the Bitcoin stuff, but they didn't think it through. Bitcoiners are different than fiat normies it was bound to fail and they also went around it the wrong way.
Bitcoiners are not dumb. The majority of them saw through the hype. Bukele had to do what he did to save the country.
Many other countries are in the same boat. Even Trump. Trump is going through the justice system in order to save the country but he is exposing to the people how corrupt the judges are before he goes arresting the judges.
You made a good video. The truth has too be said but yes they were pushing a massive operation to attract Bitcoiners. It has dyed down. Was El Salvador a honey pot for Bitcoiners? I never got the feeling that it was, but you never know.
tried to zap this note more than 1k sats but it doesn't go through. 😭
Will try again later.
He has North Korean level poll numbers
Isn't the idea that he is using military / police to silence / control everyone?
Haven't watched yet, but it's about time someone called them out.
El Salvador is not what I think of when I think of Bitcoin adoption.
Slavery, corruption, liberal economic policies, etc.
The electoral system in DPRK is completely different.
Technically anyone can nominate candidates but in practice candidates are pre selected by Korean workers party.
Instead of voting for who to elect, people leave the form blank to show approval and cross out candidates they don't like to show disapproval.
It's a meritocracy.
Someone remind me to watch later, my internet connection ain't great, video is glitching out, buffering for half a second every other second I'll try to watch it later
I heard he had hair plugs
Am gonna watch it right away 👍
Thank you Joe, amazing job 🙏🏻
Hello. Here’s your reminder :)
I wonder why that’s the case. Strange! But thank you :)
Thanks! My rant at the end of the video sums it up in 30 seconds. He’s a dictator, imo - no doubt!
Yah good point but it’s still worth covering. It’s why he’s the world’s first “bitcoin” dictator

The local people seem to be happy with him
Time to watch some great content
Recommend to check this content as well :
Good one. Do you feel safe going back there now that you published this?
At this point stepping down but having a roadmap would make him not only memorable for the ages but wise also
The right to privacy is a basic human rights concept, unfortunately, most people rarely consider it, even Bitcoiners.
We’ll be heading to Latin America soon, and as long as ES enforces the state of exception, it doesn’t make sense to visit.
Thanks for saying it Joe.

“Bitcoin exists to take away power from the center and to hand it back to the individual”
Well done!
I think many people expected too much, too fast.
Bitcoin was never supposed to magically transform El Salvador overnight. It was the foundation, not the finished building.
The biggest win wasn’t getting millions of Bitcoiners to move there, it was proving that a nation could choose a Bitcoin standard and survive the pressure from the legacy financial system.
Building a strong Bitcoin economy takes time. Jobs, businesses, entrepreneurs, capital, and education don’t appear overnight. They grow as more people understand why Bitcoin matters.
I still believe El Salvador is years ahead of most countries. Every nation will eventually have to answer the same question: how long can they keep relying on an inflationary fiat system?
Bitcoin fixes the money first. Everything else follows more slowly.
The experiment isn’t over, it’s just getting started. 🧡
I think it was my rizful wallet. Maybe it has a NWC limit or something I changed to wallet of satoshi and it sent with no problem.
Great video. Now I wanna know if you're going back :-)
THANK YOU JOE , IT NEEDS A LOT OF COJONES TO SAYS THIS!
PLEASE SAY IT LOUDER SO THE ONES ON THE BACK CAN HEAR.
WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THE SPACE .
MANY PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT BUKELE IS CAPABLE OF .
THANK YOU 🙏
Thank you for proof of work and your exploring of the nuance Joe.
My idea is I'd like to learn more about *tangible* examples of Bukele using extraordinary powers to silence/control.
In the US, we saw such examples very clearly during the pandemic and documented in the Twitter files later. We see them clearly happening now in the UK and EU. In US during pandemic and UK+EU now are all without "dictatorship" and instead systematic power structures and anti-misinformation and hate policies.
Great interview Joe, thanks for putting it out there 🙏
As Dj Khalid says "ANOTHER ONE"
Now that's a good question.Not sure I would.
Genuinely another of your best works Joe. Well done 👏
nailed it 🎯
Shout it
Yeah I've thought long and hard about El Salvador, Bukele, and Bitcoin. That country was in so much turmoil that it took a heavy hand to reel it in. Power is a hell of a drug. Hard to give it up. I hope his interest in Bitcoin was opting out for hard money and not surveillance, but I suppose both could be true. It's a very sticky wicket. Jack Dorsey "The best state is no state." I'm not so sure anarchy is the answer, and I love Jack Dorsey. Maybe Bukele will learn from Satoshi and one day say I'm done here and off to other things. Go down in history as one of the greatest leaders of all time. I doubt it. Anyway, thanks Joe for the food for thought. Keep up the good work. 👏
Take a moment to listen to this, sad to see what El Salvador is doing:

Great job.
Great job! In many ways, Bukele is just like Saylor. In the beginning both did just enough -- the bare minimum -- to earn the trust of many Bitcoiners, and after gaining their trust, they show what they really are about. Day after day it becomes clearer what they are about.

Well done video, most of it true I expect. It seems like most governments feel a strong compulsion to spy and control. The leaders in office believe, likely correctly, that there are 10,000 nasty intelligence operatives, NGOs, and revolutionaries who are just slavering to oust them and jail or kill them. So they'll do literally anything to avoid that. It's a very, very rare man who wouldn't. Where I differ with Joe is his assumption that democracies are any better than dictatorships in this regard. They usually aren't.
The inability of the people in the west to honestly recognise democracy's weakness and vulnerabilities are the reasons that the west is failing.
Kudos. Truth is sometimes painful.
These are acts of a dictatorship. It’s just whether you agree with said acts or not.
As for me, I chose freedom, fuck you money, and power to the people over the government every. damn. time.

So happy to see you reporting on Bukele as critical as it needs to be done for any leader in the world.
And when chivo is censored, while being the most popular wallet in the country. Then Bitcoin is no freedom money in El Salvador.
And the El Salvador is not the salvador of Bitcoin.
Why not putting it in the video? This breach is a result of centralisation. And what is more centralised than a dictatorship?
What you mean with tangible examples? When police and military need not court order to intrud your privacy.
This alone makes critical reporting against police, military or the regime unlikely up to impossible without getting enprisoned.
And with all the false positives, police can easily hide such cases behind false positives.
For me the tangible evidence of dictatorship seems to be that his regime did not come back to warrant based search.
And when politicians can assume to not be save opposing this martial law openly, then one can not reasonable expect the parlament to act as a guardian over the president.
So when is your next trip to El Salvador?

Nice!
Can we have a doc of Stablecoins money printing mechanisms and Bitcoin Orgs. Undisclosed Funding Sources ?

Very interesting story! double sided...
Great journalism!

This is genuinely great journalism: Critical, nuanced, non-ideological, thought provoking.
Well done, @Joe Nakamoto.

Good job!
Just a less effective message in my view. You can apply data breach/travel rule type policies to every company in the world. It’s hard to get people to rally around. Continuing to use special powers is something on a different level
Congratulations
The is a Central Bank in El Salvador, thats how the country was able to receive the SDRs from the IMF loan that they forced to take.
The IMF dictate policy in Nations that condured up by the BIS in Basel Switzerland , that why its called the Basel Accord and currently all IMF participants are follow Basel 111
@FRANCIS - BULLBITCOIN.COM knows this , this is where the conversation about all Government action really needs to and highlights who is really dictating policies in Nations ??
Bitcoin is the only hope there is and just HODL until you die or build systems that makes the BIS/ IMF network obsolete!!!
That's what should really be examined about whats happening in El Salvador from that point of view and what programmes the Bitcoin Office are currently running?
