People are putting too much weight on follower counts. Again. For some reason... People should consider moving beyond this archaic metric. The real metric hides inside Web-of-Trust. Being a voice inside your community is much more powerful and meaningful.

Love that. Powerful web of trust in this image btw. Hope you enjoyed the footy on Monday night. (Told you that you should've gone to watch the arsenal!) image
I don't even look at follower counts because it's takes too long to load, I hope they improve them in the future, with statistics like last time they logged in, so we can see if they are just bots or old accounts. That way we can see how many fake accounts the npub has and other stuff like that
Medium. It's more complicated than that. People are too tied to influence, popularity, and ego. I'd rather have real meaningful conversations than a million followers.
Absolutely. We have a lot of work to do on this front. It's exciting. I believe we can marry a lot of our ideas and build something truly wonderful and impactful.

Even better No follower, comment, reaction or zap count Just show if the user commented, reacted or zapped a note
Yeah, I get your point now. It's the follower count you're talking about, not just that people are trying to get followers, but obsessing over the actual number of followers? One follower that actually interacts and comments is worth more than any number of followers that don't interact

By their fruits ye shall know them. The people who trust/verify my content, live it and live a successful life because of that, are my PoW and WoT View quoted note →
The way the users themselves collectively reflect on the social network, and this reflection leads to real transformations, real developments by the devs, and real experiments, is fascinating on Nostr and differentiates it A LOT from legacy social media. This place is a giant laboratory. Sooner or later, big media will discover this and start using Nostr as a laboratory and field research too, and it won’t take long.

The obsession with numbers is the illusion of significance; the crowd measures shadows while the essence slips quietly by. Power resides not in visibility, but in the silent currents of influence that shape minds unseen.

We're gooner win the league
"People should consider moving beyond this archaic metric" = code for Nostr can't do that. If Nostr could we would be happy to promote it as "the decentralized way to build a healthy follower count" or something like that. But it can't, so we call it archaic instead.
Yeah it's been a long while since I worried about follower counts. It feels better to just send your expression out into the Nostrverse & trust that whoever needs to see it, will. Thank you for donating so much of your time & attention to Nostr Derek. This protocol wouldn't be the same without you. 🫂
How do you measure that? It would be a very interesting metric as a podcasting roi Personally, podcasting has brought me so much more than money. Skill. Friends. Opportunities. Perhaps the WOT is a better reflection of that?
