Theres enough stuff built here, starting to think the most valuable use of my time is to start promoting freedom tech on social media like instagram. Posting every day, viral hooks, etc. not sure what else will bring the masses here more effectively.
Otherwise all this work is at risk of becoming a tech graveyard

meh, waste of time also
switch sectors, challenge yourself whilst also making a great living, you deserve it
We're doing it already. It's not working.
you have an example?

@Morgan Maksoud-Miller runs this. It's a valiant effort. But nothing is ever enough.
It’s just a matter of seeing what the most viral videos are doing and copying that. The most successful ones are posting everyday and optimizing their hooks. What you guys have is a start but it will likely be a team effort from multiple fronts.
I'll try linkedin
what nostr really needs to grow is for some government agency to complain about it
Likely is something that just uses this tech but gives users something else and is not forcing them to add/switch.
Anna's Archive on Nostr
Not a hopeful sign for #nostr when devs start talking like this. 🤔

Yeah, been trying to think about what makes the other platforms still so powerful to attract the masses. Having a portable social graph is also powerful, but new users don't see that benefit of course. Some more niche apps are probably a good way to go (fitness, video, etc.). Maybe the funding needs to be spent on marketing the Nostr apps now.
It's in all of our interests to spread the idea of decentralization and decentralized tools.
And I think that's the catch.
It took me ages to find and set up Nostr. And I'm a bit more tech-savvy than the average person.
I think most people lack the "why"—what's the benefit of using decentralized tools?
For many, the question is: what are they, anyway?
And then, how do they even get started?
So yes: Instagram and similar platforms are probably the way to go.
I would have been really glad if I'd known about some of these tools before I got "too cheeky." But unfortunately, I only learned about them afterward.
This was always true. It's a marketing problem, not a building problem. Thats what happens when there's 10mil distributed to 'open source' projects which can not be monetized
and non-marketing-informed builders are biased into thinking if they just add one more feature it will be successful. delulu
@Clara take note of this
TIME
I think Nostr needs more services people actually want to use operating atop it. Poker, prediction markets, sports betting, and instant currency exchanges are good services to make available via Nostr DMs.
If you need any help please let me know. The nostrasia marketing presentation might still be relevant. Also in my work for you put together a whole marketing strategy incl content calendar with hooks etc which was actually planned for these months

Besides social media, another approach could be word of mouth. People who know lots of people, those people look up to them, they get introduced to Nostr with a cool demo where they get zapped, that could work.
They'll come, see the apps and ecosystem suck, and leave and tell all their friends too.
Now build communities and real life impact around it, instead of luring like-&-subscribe hungry people in. Is all this tech built just for capturing a chunk of mainstream social media’s users?
No KYC + crypto + anonymous might be an attraction in itself
Gradually… then gradually… then gradually some more…
💯
I dm’d you on insta
Also, would like to see you vs @John Carvalho on a livestream to get everything on the table about why nostr not pubky, blueksy, matrix, etc
Fuck all the haters!
Any attention is good!
You do you my dude!
#haiku
Good shit..
I've been doing the same on a few platforms. I didn't know what else to do when the only potential audience we were reaching were Bitcoiners/Orange people... And even then 90% of them don't seem to understand the importance of Nostr.
I can tell you right now though... opening peoples minds on platforms filled with such closed minds is a challenge.
SWC or Lightning-poker.
you might not even need to talk about it. The main goal is to go viral and have the tech in bio
Would also like you to elaborate!
Social media like Twitter aren't THAT useful. That's why they need addictive algorithms. Vine is probably the most useful because it is short but entertaining but sporadic.
The real meat of nostr comes from things like @Zap Cooking that add a social element to a useful skill.
There's creative avenues that can be noster based. Like exercise @RUNSTR or some weight lifting one. Hiking or foraging, woodworking or computer building.
So many different niches that are all interoperable via Npub identities. We just need coders and niche enthusiasts to work with each other.
Don't forget wordle posting
Ive thought about it as well
True! The algo is nasty though… like TikTok it truly favours some stupid content. Taken me ages to get somewhat ok stuff on my feed but reaching the right audience is tough it feels
Let me know how you go though… I’m more than happy to help with this stuff as I think people simply don’t know. There a lot of people opposed to digital id and all that dystopian shit out there. Sad thing is they include bitcoin with eth/shitcoins.
That might be the biggest hurdle imo
I think the key is to find a niche and just master that
Aye true. I’ve been wandering around a few circles but I’m starting to think time best spent might be with the retro computer accounts/posts
I’d follow!
I wish still had the hardware to show off! I do find a lot of people who miss the days of dial-up and Winamp etc though there!
Do it!
Yes you can do that by I find the ROI is not worth it. Nostr won't die because the people currently using will have no where to go. Nostr will grow but a very slow pace even if you promote it, it's not going to bring in a flood of users
yup gap is massive, people will value what we offer them. showing stuff that matters to them is way to go, they simply won't dig here cause its better, they will if they get some value out. better doesn't always mean valuable to them
I think actually a good marketing campaign is what's missing. Unfortunately.
has anyone done any sound research on why users don't stay? is it the spam, bots, or censorship-resistant bad content?
can’t find their people
Torrent discovery on nostr, Anna's archive, promote the archive .org movies account, do social account backup (x,reddit...), Goodreads equivalent for book readers...
Even for bitcoin stuff, there are still people that are mostly posting on X and that ends up luring me back.
There's a solid community of "women of nature" on nostr that regularly posts. That could be a good list to make to help with discovery...
I have a collection of CPUs... From 8008 up, including CCCP pieces...
every day I'm at least torn 3 times if ivy lumi should be exclusive on nostr or available everywhere.
can people handle love is the cure? 🤭
I'm trying to be on nostr only
🐈 is the cure!
Here is my list of easy-to-implement (few lines-of-code), and it will be easy to tell about nostr to Granny or imooto:
(mostly about cut out/mute lewd search results/tags)
1. Mute not in feed only (/notes), but in search results (/search)
2. Make option that muted posts/users disappear completely, as if they doesn't exist (to avoid clicking on them by curiosity)
4. Make option to mute "long -" to mute all bots
5. Make option to mute notes which have a dozens of hashtags (a lot of bots use 30 or 40 popular hashtags nowadays)
6. Make option to mute users(by pubkey) automatically in background, if they wrote a lot of events, muted by some rule
7. Enabble a lot of "muting rules" by default (otherwise I'm feel embarassed to recommend nostr in real life now >.<)
There were also proposal, to share "mutelist" with others.
Some relays claims to cut out lewd content (relay.nostr.mom as example). We should support/promote such relays!
indeed
People complain about the lack of algorithm to hook them up.

no. you guys do not have ideas sufficient enough.
Just as a note Retro Gaiden (Mastodon server) plays well with all the bridges, they post this kind of stuff
We have enough content on people on youtube, facebook, x, & reddit. The problem nostr solves is censorship.
What idea would win?
Maybe a quant could show the relationship between publicity of insufficient things & people infuriated enough by them, and with the capacity, to build better things...
Thanks! Will endeavour to check out
it’s too much for me to poast.
some ways would sound super dumb (but are actually really good ofc) and some ideas are better done in stages or something like that.
but all regular people, mainstream people, don’t have the energy or patience or whatever to do something new that isn’t fun or meaningful to them. they certainly don’t have enough motivation to “be on nostr” whatever that may/could mean. and a lotta mainstream folks have a negative opinion about bitcoin even while not knowing much about it at all.
Nostr does not offer what the masses want.
I think a lot of people like freedom
Nah then explain why we’re all slaves and nobody is fighting… the masses want slop and drama on social media
not everyone, but enough people do.
tbh and from my own perspective, there is nothing keeping me here. the same people hang out and talk in "inside jokes", very uninviting to the masses. with access to things like chatgpt, copilot and the plethora of other ai tools to tickle anyones fancy, nostr has nothing to offer this way or it gets muted by the overstimulation of products. i agree that there can only be so much building if there is no substance to hang on to. most people dont give a shit about freedom tech until it actually effects them, otherwise comfort remains. the best best is to research what is actually drawing the attention of people and creating some kind of novelty for that attention to be attracted to. no one care about nostr unless you are the builders. i have tried to talk about it in my "real" world, and people's eyes glaze over. hell, when i tried to tell how cool chatgpt was was months before people actually starting using it around me, even then their eyes glazed over, until they found out how it could benefit them. no one trust bitcoin. no one trusts nostr. it feels unsafe and reckless from an outside point of view. i think you better bet is to see what you have built already and how it works in your local community. i already vibe coded a bunch of games to play with my neighbors and that is a hit. their eyes glaze over when i talk about how i did it, but they light up when playing. So the real question is how to understand their needs, their focus without being predatory. Pick one product and try to make it work in your world and if it works, it works....you should be able to shift, pivot when needed. one of my games was a balloon game and it did not work, i took the advice of the real life players and fixed the concept. this brought rave reviews. let's say you are from a football town, why not have a nostr football trivia game night, using an app built on the protocol that is above and beyond, and when you are out at the bar, you can pull out your phone to the guy next to you and say hey wanna play some bar trivia while we watch this game? that is an example. what do you like to do in your real world and how to offer a product that is something of value. my random thoughts. also trivia is big thing in bars and restaurants. social, fun, mindless (a bit), and catchy. anyhoo, i dont need no response, but thats what i got.
The idea of accounts you actually own is a pretty important idea, even if people don’t understand that yet. Just an education and awareness problem
agreed. i have been blacklisted and shadowbanned, so i get it. but my family and neighbors don't. they can't even comprehend the unfairness. they need help connecting the dots more. of course. i just don't think starting out on a war against the normal is going to get them to be open to the idea. it needs to be more of a side note. like "hey my dude, play this game with me." "okay" *play for a bit* "yeah i built this fun app on this protocol because i got mad at this company for blocking me" "oh that is cool"...and leave it there. if they like to play more, then you know you have something, you planted a seed while growing that audience/those users. .... also a lot of people are afraid to fight the big dogs, because they understand the retaliation consquences. some people choose to remain dumb. they know more than you think, but choose to stay put until others they feel confident are doing it. remember that dance video where one person starts dancing in the grass, and everyone is staring, but then that second person joins that person, and all of sudden it was a social norm and people started joining in. you need to have more people on board to dance before you can deliver that message or give people the confidence to leave the "winning" team.
Exactly what we've been doing with @Milk Market and @naughty goat co
where ya posting to?
Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. A little on X but that's not as good platform for consumer products.
I've been saying it since I got here.
None of you advertise your apps anywhere.
Just convincing primal and yakihonne to make accounts on tiktok so that I could tag them when telling people about nostr took more convincing than it should have
It's the lack of algorithms feeding people content and the lack of attention new people get
I have never seen an advertisement for a nostr app.
Not one, not one client has any advertising outside of nostr.
The fact that every nostr client is advertising on nostr and no where else is bizarre and totally retarded.
Tons of people joined Parler for freedom of speech.
Same with Gab.social
