Fountain. I always listen unless it's something that requires or greatly improves the experience/episode. Talking about if there are a lot of graphs and visual elements, not just people I want to see.

4 and 5. I like video when I can because you get the nonverbal expression too. ๐Ÿ‘€ Hear me out. I know you donโ€™t like Spotify, but it has video, lets me download, itโ€™s easy to use and has all the podcasts I follow. Fountain when I only use audio, because the video doesnโ€™t work all the time. I love the Nostr streams when I can catch them! ๐Ÿค™

7 - I use Podverse. Dirt simple. No KYC, open source and running on my Graphene phone. I am legitimately concerned that gov entities use my listening habits to infer my state of mind.
Overcast or Castamatic - basically an independent podcasting app + the Podcasting 2.0 index. Canโ€™t let big tech lock down freedom tools like Podcasting.

Did you see the persona exposรฉ? AI governance and surveillance makes everything you do so cheap to index and score. Gullible to think otherwise.
Fountain audio only. Youtube mostly audio some video.๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒด๐Ÿค™๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ˜€

Why are they still called podcasts? Does anyone even use an iPod these days?
Funny how many of those platforms are shit, proprietary Babylon shit, far removed from propagating RSS feeds. Podverse and Fountain here.

Spotify and listening only. Mainly while driving or walking.
Podcasting 2.0 (Fountain, PodcastGuru). Live if possible. Audio mainly, unless it's something with charts or some other worthwhile visuals, or its on zap.stream! A big MEH to every other lame walled-garden without bitcoin payments.
It is YouTube ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ With 'NewPipe' I often download the audio to listen while working on the land. Otherwise, if I have time, I like watching the people talk for a better sense of who they are and if I trust them.
Fountain. But because I feel bitcoin centered podcasts are becoming repetitive, US-centric, and too much focused on doom and gloom, I end up listening to only one or two per week. Time is limited and that is the greatest asset...

Fountain without video for 90%. Primal for the rest.
I've been a heavy user of the app Podcast Republic for years. Tons of customization options, fine speed variability control, able to download episodes ahead of time automatically and other stuff. I enjoy fountain too though, I use both at this point. I want to support the Bitcoin/Nostr ecosystem!

What makes podcasting special is choice - you can listen in any app - and creators can host anywhere or even self-host. Recently we've seen more podcasters recording video - and last week Apple Podcasts announced they will soon add support for video podcasts. But what we don't want to see with video podcasts is more walled gardens with platform lock-in. The good news - there is already an open standard for delivering video versions of episodes - the RSS <podcast:alternateEnclosure> tag. If you host your podcast with Fountain - the video versions of episodes use this tag meaning any app can ingest the video and offer listeners the option to switch to video right from the player. Apple have historically been good stewards of open podcasting - and I hope that they will adopt the alternate enclosure tag with their video implementation. In the meantime Fountain will keep building on open standards and demonstrate how video podcasts and other new Podcasting 2.0 features can be built in an open way - We're committed to making the Fountain app the best listening experience for podcasts - please tag me anytime if you have feedback on how we can improve! Yes the app crashed continuously. And oftentimes I would stop listening in the middle of a podcast and then go back to finish the podcast and it didnโ€™t save the spot where I stopped. So I had to guess where I left off.

Well, on iphone: -when you open it just spins and spins and never loads -have to swipe app closed -then open again -should open to my library but opens to some page of shit i don't ever care to look at -click on podcast show and hit play the previous show will play and have to close app again for the selected one to play -the app will randomly leap backward 30 seconds in playback

Apple and I listen only usually doing other work. Don't watch"podcasts"
For some reason, fountain hasn't rewarded since the 18th of February. And I'm up to date on upgrades ๐Ÿคท
You guys are off to a great start, only a few suggestions really come to mind. 1: Improving the "open in app" experience when I click links to fountain pages for podcasts as it doesn't really work well. 2: Reducing the minimum sats per minute, this will only get more important as the price rises long term. 3: Increase the options in speed control, I don't like 25% faster as I usually do a modest 10%. 4: Add options that customize Bluetooth button controls when listening to podcasts. Thanks for asking!
Thanks for the feedback! - On app links - these seem to work fine for me on iOS - are you on iOS or Android? Could you share an example link that didn't work? - On sats per minute - the minimum is currently 10 sats per minute but we will definitely consider lowering it if (when) the bitcoin price rises considerably - On playback speed granularity - it's on our roadmap to add more granular options - On Bluetooth headphone controls - what kind of customisation would you like?
Yes it is a bit hidden - we've considered playing video by default for episodes with video - but I'm not 100% sure it's the right approach - will try and make the switch to video option more obvious. On Amber signer - we're aware of an issue that sometimes can affect the remote signer if signing is not set to automatic - we have a fix that should be live in the next 48 hours - version 1.4.9
I listed death cult apps because thatโ€™s what most people use, and I knew anyone who didnโ€™t use said apps would be sure to tell me. Also, I put @Fountain in a different category. Theyโ€™ve had โ€œzapsโ€ (โ€œboostsโ€) for years. They also integrated Nostr a while ago. They also have video in addition to audio. For bitcoiners who only use death cult apps, I always try to push them toward fountain.
Good to hear. Thereโ€™s also a bunch of other apps that are both open source and support podcasting 2.0 features (therefor btc) Bitcoin is part of a bigger picture for me, we need more free and open systems and way less digital vampires. That involves a massive culture shift away from current funding models of the Internet. I really like the v4v concept and I hope more people shift their thinking over time. Loads of great FOSS podcast projects listed at Fountain doing great work for sure and theyโ€™ve been very supportive of grass roots level music events, thatโ€™s extremely cool! Iโ€™m also a fan of Podverse, again it supports direct p2p payments using magic internet money. Win. Weโ€™re all fans of open source money, we need to open source a lot more imo. This is very hard for creatives (music maker not using mainstream platforms myself) but I sleep better knowing Iโ€™m trying to be the change I want to see. My own music/show is self hosted on Castopod, again FOSS and RSS and BTC compatible. For bitcoiners who only use death cult apps Iโ€™d just ask what world do you want to see? One where kids grow up thinking making weird surprised face to satisfy a black box algorithm is normal or something else? Hmmโ€ฆ
We need people using more than just Fountain. I still think most people only use Fountain to Boost and still listen in other apps. That's just a guess but it's based off of what I've seen and heard over the years. Lots of #vibecoding going on but not much in the podcasting space. My focus is music and helping the devs at Podverse, Castamatic and PodcastGuru out as much as I can because those apps are light years ahead of anything I'd ever make. but at the end of the day if your using anything but Apple or Spotify to listened to podcast it's a win in my book.
Been, my main choice for quite a while now. Was also very helpful when I had a subscription issue. Look forward to seeing what he comes up with.
