i have been consistent on this in the past: through the use of insurance requirements, it will become prohibitively expensive to drive your own car incredibly fucked up easier to make freedom expensive than illegal image

This is the game: they sell freedom at a crazy price, because outlawing it is too hard!
What's "fucked up" is 70 years of centrally-planned urban and suburban development patterns that have made the ability to travel around the country by any means other than The Car prohibitive. Cars are bad for the planet, and human life
Kind of like they’re trying to take away the personal pc by making memory prohibitively expensive for the average Joe.

There will be premiums on freedom. Plan accordingly.
Logically, if the roads are flooding with safer robot cars, then my insurance costs should go down, but no, that’s never how it works out is it
Cars have done more to drive social isolation than any other technology in American life. People don't know their neighbors because they're forced to live in far-flung areas, so that boomers can have their single-family homes smack dab in the middle of the most in-demand real estate markets like the SF bay area. AND you're forced to literally travel with an ID *strapped to the back* of your conveyance. Can you imagine how ludicrous it would be if every time you had to walk anywhere you had to wear a windbreaker with a number on it?

Some very interesting points. My gut has always told me that there was something off about the way we live with cars. Most nice walkable neighborhoods look like paradise, and I do find myself wondering what it would look like to have less vehicles.

Until AI/Nostr powered “freedom self driving cars” arrive on scene
Positive note also, if I have a full self driving car when why the fuck would I need a drivers license? Less standardized KYC for 16 year olds in the near future.

You don't own your car if it connects to the internet. It can be turned off at will. And we all know they ain't gonna give you the discount when you hook up openpilot to your 2016 Camry.
Many Americans have fond memories of college years... Or Disneyland... Or trips to Europe... What do all of those have in common? Dense, walkable environments, with abundant social experiences and easy access to green space. Everything you need within walking distance, or perhaps a short tram ride. Then Americans come home to the "real world" where you have to strap yourself into a 2-ton machine and operate it at Killing Speed to do so much as buy a pint of milk.
“I heard he drives his own car” “No freaking way. How can he afford the interest?” “I think he was like an early bitcoiner or something.”
We need privately owned, open source, offline self driving cars 😀 Bitcoin doesn’t fix that.
Yeah, I have been saying the same that’s why it so important for the 18-wheelers businesses to implement FSD their operation cost will drop dramatically.
There will be a tipping point where enough of the population has adopted autonomous cars all programmed to avoid accidents, and the need for traffic enforcement goes to zero. A potential exists for a golden age to be a driver. That's when you want a lambo.

Our car insurance is high because of electric cars in the first place. It costs an arm and a leg to fix those things as opposed to internal combustion engine vehicles
It’s no f’ed up to charge someone less. Note they do not say they will be charging people more. It’s a discount Your view is analogous to calling to F*cked up for a grocery store to have a sale

Sure obviously there's beauty in this world and I for one love magic and the magic of natural and super natural realms. But if we deny and turn a blind eye to the fact that there's a whole lot of mess for us to clean up that's just spiritual bypassing imho. I think we can see both and be realistic about what's in front of us... And sometimes the depressing parts can weigh heavier. Life is a pendulum, we swing both ways and none of it is untrue when we are there.
When i was living in WI for 4 years I was driving my camaro w/o insurance. Just because i believe insurance is a fiat scam. Americans told me this is not allowed. I told em to GFY.

Carney the central bank parasite in Canada just quietly brought in fines up to $10,000 for minor driving violations for "safety" of course. One ticket and you'll never drive your car again
Unironically return to tradition and build cities and towns that don’t require us to travel by giant overpriced wheelchairs
