Yeah. Agreed. Interestingly, traffic to my personal relay has increased substantially and it does look legit. I'm not sure how Nostr.band stats are calculated. Do they count events written to smaller relays? Otherwise each client that switches to the Outbox model, like Amethyst did recently, will make a dent on nostr.band stats. PS: Not dismissing the fact that a lot of folks left Nostr and that onboarding new people has been quite difficult.
It is possible, wot.shaving.kiwi is down all the time from too much traffic. Thanks, Vitor! Now I have to move it to a beefier setup.
comparing nostr in the same ways as centralized social media are compared is doomed to failure. HEALTH of the users is more important to nostr than dumb econometric keynesian aggregation. i'd say that @Pip the WoT guy and his analytics systems give much more accurate data because he is building stuff that works within the context of a decentralized network, it requires a lot more probing to find all the data, this chart was generated by an app that probably only counts like 30 big relays and ignores the little ones. plus, there is no way to get this access required to small relays without negotiating to get access to them. good. that's a sign that auth gating access to relays DOES enhance privacy.
Unless an exodus of almost biblical proportions happen I would not attribute this sudden drop to people leaving.

New to nostr here, i have a question, what are "trusted pubkeys"? Are there like two different levels of pubkeys? I'm pretty much sure i skipped something somewhere.
We almost always take a dip on weekends. Add in a holiday weekend and that seems accurate. I be we slide back up after people return from vacation. Now one might argue that Nostr is global, and while I agree, an incredible amount of traffic comes from the US. @HoloKat has joked in the past that it's pretty dead after my goodnight message until he sees my good morning message.

I see a bunch of Japanese notes, aussies and some New Zealanders here and there. It’s not a total graveyard but I definitely see activity picking up by the time I go to bed. All the number counting and chart watching is harmful. It just creates self fulfilling momentum. I consider anyone engaging in it as someone who doesn’t want nostr to win and naturally mute them. I know this seems like sticking the head in the sand, but I think it does no good sending bad vibes out. I even want to delete this very note because of this but will publish it anyway. If I don’t respond to anyone criticizing my comment, this is the reason. If you want nostr to win, create an atmosphere where people want to stay. If all we do is whine about numbers, people don’t want to stick around for that.

Everyone left after @HODL started talking about penis cleaning.
This makes no sense. Saying people who track metrics "don't want nostr to win" is like saying doctors checking vital signs want their patients to die. Or engineers stress-testing bridges want them to collapse. Or Bitcoiners who watch the market and post prices want it to fail. If someone just posts the negative and not also the positive, then yeah... maybe they are trying to direct a narrative. But periodically keeping track of Nostr's vital signs is important. We can't get to where we're going if we deny where we're starting from. Twitter grew because they watched what users actually did and fixed what wasn't working. Reddit built communities by studying engagement data. Every platform that succeeded did it by measuring reality, not by pretending problems don't exist. You're not being optimistic. You're being willfully blind. Positive thinking only gets you so far when you're ignoring reality. If your gas gauge is flashing empty and you cover it with a smiley face sticker and start chanting "plenty of gas, plenty of gas," you're still going to run out of gas. Tony Robbins nailed this: "I don't believe you should go to your garden and chant, 'There's no weeds, there's no weeds, there's no weeds,' and think that's going to solve something. I'm a believer in find the weed and rip it out." That's what metrics do. They show areas of growth and what's working. They show pain points. They find the weeds. If Nostr's going to make it, we need people willing to see what's actually happening and fix it, not just a bunch of Nostriches with their heads in the sand chanting, "there's no weeds." And muting anyone who dares to point them out.
Interesting because for me it's usually far more active when American Nostr goes to sleep. And that's been pretty consistent since I joined nearly 3 years ago. I guess it depends on where the majority of your Nostr friends and people who vibe with your posts are.

It doesn’t ‘seem’ like sticking your head in the sand you actually are sticking your head in the sand. Constantly announcing you are winning when in fact you are losing (quite literally losing users and market share) is the ultimate reinforcement of the participation award generation- and I ain’t here for any of that. If the math ain’t mathin’ then the math ain’t mathin’. Avoid hard truths, hard conversations and reality at your peril. Keep building with the blinkers off anon.
According to stats.nostr.band "Trusted pubkeys/users are public keys with non-zero trust rank", and they define Trust rank here: https://trust.nostr.band/ Beav is right that this is one of very specific "scores" that as a user you can ignore (plenty of legit accounts without nip05, Nevermind whatever is nostr.band definition of "good provider").
There is no way that is organic. It must either be a bot farm not posting or a failure in the recording. If it was genuine you'd expect a gradual dropoff or a controversy.
The numbers aren't about what current users choose—they're about adoption and retention. For at least a year now, new users who've bothered to learn how to set up accounts and verify their npubs have trended toward zero retention within 30 days. Nostr still has a significant retention problem.

I applaud those working to make Nostr mainstream but we have to realize that it might not happen for a while. Twitter was a thing for a long time before it took off for normies. For me at the end of the day, nostr is freedom tech. That's why I'm here. Most people don't know they need freedom tech.
I agree freedom tech is so important, whether most people realize it or not. That's exactly why we need to solve the adoption/retention problem. Sustainable before mainstream. If grants like OpenSats dry up due to low user adoption, then the main devs will find it much harder to afford to code for Nostr on user donations alone—even with vibe coding. Period. Last year (before the grant) was literally the first year we didn't see Will from Damus posting his usual annual plea about not making enough money for Damus development to be sustainable.

We are looking for an investor who can loan our holding company 237,000 US dollars. With this money, we will open a farm in Baku, Azerbaijan to produce animal-based food. We will also make our own animal feed, so our products will be healthier, better quality, and cheaper. Because we sell quality products for less and have strong advertising, we will sell more worldwide and make big profits. Why Azerbaijan? Because animal farming makes a lot of money there, but few people do it. That’s why we will earn more by starting in Azerbaijan. Additionally, by producing our own animal feed, we will be able to sell healthier, higher quality animal products at a lower price. Since we can sell quality products cheaply and thanks to our strong advertising network, we will be able to sell more internationally and make huge profits. The reason for establishing the business in Azerbaijan is that animal husbandry is a very profitable business in Azerbaijan, but since there are very few people doing animal husbandry, establishing the farm in Azerbaijan will provide us with more income. Your profit: You will lend 237,000 US dollars to our holding company and when 22.03.2026 comes, you will receive your money back as 953,000 US dollars. Your earnings will be great. When 22.03.2026 comes, you will get your money back as 953.00 US dollars. You will lend 237,000 US dollars to our holding company and when 22.03.2026 comes, you will receive your money back as 953,000 US dollars. When 22.03.2026 comes, I will give you back your money in the amount of 953,000 US dollars. That means you will earn 716,000 US dollars profit in just 9 months. If you like this project and want to loan us money, message me on WhatsApp or Telegram for more details. Good question . Interested in the response . Do we have an index of trusted and untrusted pubkeys?
I'm ok, priorities are changing. And yes, nostr.band and stats haven't been worked on for a very long time, keeping them up until good alternatives emerge.
I see nostr as a 10 year experiment. It will take that to challenge, adapt, shift and renew. Much room to grow. If we fail then, we can always have the memories to hang onto.
These metrics are wrong. This dip is most likely due to amethyst moving to outbox. There's also no good way to track nostr usage because it's decentralized.
Again, not to be rude but I do think you should close it down, it's misleading and probably does more harm than good. Or probably display a large warning banner on the website.
If there was a significant interest in this data being available, I would be willing to take over the maintenance of a new nostr.band stats and other pages when I have alternative services ready.
About this, I would be willing to make all components except some parts of the backend open source. I do not have too much time to maintain more frontends, but if the community is willing to help that would be great and would provide data from the Nostr.land indexer. @brugeman It would also be great if you could provide a dump from your indexer's DB if you intend on permanently winding it down.

The goal is to hopefully renovate Nostr.band and have it be available with the current features + more. It currently uses an architecture designed from when Nostr was way smaller and lacks a lot of basic features.
I can help a lot with a project like this, since all i do is data manipulation and visualization as a job. Just give me access to the data. ill take care of the rest :D
nostr.land currently has some data processing infrastructure already, so I could export some aggregate data there
I would love that dump as well. I've been playing with the idea of stats page for nostr.net for a long time but just didn't seem to make sense to put in the effort and resources
You would need a scraper to keep it up to date. This is mostly for completeness. I can provide you access to my scraper’s database, but it would be limited access due to it being used for commercial purposes.
yeah i've build some rudimentary scrapping already when i was experimenting with search.nostr.net , but i wanted the database for other reasons as well , i was just recently asking around if anyone has a big dump cuz i wanted to do some AI experiments on it

Not to be rude, but how do you know it's bad? And bad compared to what? Is there a source that is not bad? I maintained stats for myself to see the real picture, and some people think the real picture is different, but they never cite the source. I 100% support passing the torch to someone, but don't hope the new maintainer will give you much "better" data.
I didn’t mean any disrespect, Artur. The truth is, I don’t know what the quality of the data is because there isn’t anything to compare it with. Like so many of us here I’m very attached to nostr.band and want to see it live on. When it goes down for hours or days on end, it’s frustrating, because even if it doesn’t always work properly, it’s still the best metrics tool we have. This is why we want to #savenostrband.
That’s so simple, beautiful and completely pointless. Those who get it- don’t need it. Those who need it- won’t get it. Shame
