BITKEY IS STRICTLY BETTER THAN CUSTODIAL WALLETS FOR LONG TERM STORAGE. IT IS JUST AS EASY TO USE IF NOT EASIER. THERE ARE PROBABLY LESS THAN 2 MILLION SELF CUSTODY BITCOIN USERS WITH MORE THAN 10M SATS. NEED TO GET THIS NUMBER UP ASAP. BITKEY IS IDEAL FOR THOSE TOO OVERWHELMED TO LEAVE EXCHANGES. REALLY A GAME CHANGER OF A PRODUCT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Anything that assists in making self custody of Bitcoin easier is a positive. Get them off the exchanges is a good mantra.

YOU MAKE A GOOD POINT. IT GIVES THE MASSES MULTISIG SECURITY WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT THE COMPLEXITY OF IT
Yea my friend was holding over 30 mill sats on Swan and he finally moved it to a Bitkey as the price point and ease of use was attracting. Not everyone will have the time or energy for a cold cold or foundation passport but Bitkey makes it super easy. My 2 year old has a Bitkey.
Yes and that’s the key - excuse the pun. And in comparison to others in the field, you basically have @jack who is seems to be very vested in the whole bitcoin thing vs some unknowns selling some similar product.

An excellent product. It's now my go to recommendation. In a lot of ways more secure than a single sig hardware wallet. Wherever you're hiding your seed phrase, if someone finds it you're boned. With bitkey if someone finds your phone or key, nbd. If someone compromises your email, nbd, they have to fuck you multiple ways to take your money.
Everyone will be getting one from me this Christmas. I like how the “buy” button is built into the app and abstracts away the whole transfer process.
Well to be fair there are some people very vested in the whole bitcoin thing. There is for instance @npub1ryru...yjc6 the original author of the RaspiBolt guide, enabeling plebs to easily run a node at home. He is with @BitBox. Or there is @DETERMINISTIC OPTIMISM 🌞 - coldcard. And lots others. IMHO one value of the whole bitcoin thing is that there are actually people I could trust although I don't have to.
True. I like Bitbox too. I think it might make sense to diversify. A bit in Bitbox, a bit in Bitkey and perhaps a bit in Coldcard. I also personally know quite a few who shun them all and opt for the old school keys on paper.
💯 10k hours is great, but bitcoin wins when 10k hours is not necessary. Bitkey does that. Love mine, but I can't seem to run the battery completely dead 😅
I've been moving bitkeys like crazy. I think I bought 10 for different people so far.

Isn't #ecash / #cashu the right way to onboard people and later come to #lightning and then to #bitcoin based on the amount of #sats they stack? 🤔

I'M GOING TO GET ONE FOR CHRISTMAS. GOT ODELL'S BLESSING. WORTH A LOOK. BEEN USING SQUARE FOR YEARS AT FARMERS MARKETS AND I LIKE @jack. 👍
I bought one just to check it out, but I don't I'll use it. I'll probably gift it to someone else. I don't like that you can't get a seed phrase so you're dependent on the company for at least two of the three keys & the emergency access kit is probably too complicated for most people.
It’s definitely better than having your private key written on a piece of paper and shoved into a random LP sleeve for 5 years. Bitcoiners these days are spoiled with options.
My biggest question about Bitkey (bought 2 when it was on flash sale for $25 dollars but haven’t used it yet)…The materials suggest that your keys can be recovered in a catastrophic event where you lose your phone and your HW device via trusted contacts. I take that to mean, assuming to set up trusted social contacts, that the trust social contact will have a copy your mobile key (which I understand will only have certain permissions) on their iCloud. And so then in hard loss event your trusted contact helps your recover your mobile key and then you initiate the HW replacement flow and use your mobile key and the Bitkey server key to transfer your funds to the new HW wallet key. Is this the correct understanding?
Jade is only "less secure" to a Coldcard if the Coldcard is part of a multi-sig setup made up of other geographically diverse hardware wallets. Otherwise if it's a single sig Coldcard it's more secure assuming the use of the 2of2 or 2of3 account types in Blockstream Wallet. It's cool if you dig Coldcards, but don't spread misinformation.
It’s a beautiful product & I’m definitely recommending it to beginners. Will probably give this one to my kid who turns 18 & heads off to college next year so they can start stacking on their own.
Actually just got 2 newbies on Cold cards directly. Described different wallets and both just said want air gap and best security, happy to take the time to learn. Was quite shocked but a little explanation just worked.
Have you ever shared your opinions on a collaborative custody setup like unchained? Would love your feedback on this.
Ok, now that I’ve read that I’m revising my opinion. I’m just putting some thoughts here for a sanity check. Cloud backup - I missed that before. I don’t like the platform lock-in, but that’s not a deal-breaker for me. Trusted contact - At first, I thought this was an alternative cloud backup, which would enable a multi-platform workaround. But, after fully reading it seems to be an extra security layer on top of the normal cloud backup, which is nice. Break glass - It seems that as long as you have your hardware key this sort of overcomes the platform lock-in since it includes an encrypted copy of your mobile key & you can theoretically make multiple copies. It doesn’t really overcome the inability to migrate between platforms though. Only to sweep your funds & migrate away from the Bitkey. All that said, I do now think that I’ll set it up & use it to replace my hot wallet as it seems to offer a bit more security.
And yet the Bitcoin Puritans whine about no seed phrase Meanwhile they will lose their bitcoins either by having only one key or by fucking up multisig Sorry, but UX is everything and it’s obvious Jack knows UX but other wallet makers do NOT

need to get that number up as these massive players are coming in
Just bought one for my sister in law and her husband. Minor detail question - do they need to set a daily limit on the mobile key? Seems like it would be unsafe without it, as it’s a hot wallet without needing to use the hardware. I want to make it as simple as possible for them but don’t know if I’m introducing complexity by telling them to set a limit.
I got one and it's amazing. They should do a Proof of Keys promo complete with material for people like me to share with friends & family. Not much needed. just a small bit of text + a few minutes of video or something.
It sounds just like Casa's 2-of-3 offering though, so how is it a game changer?
