You shouldn’t lose money on Damus. The Damus app is still the best on iOS, even without the branded relay.
turn it into a relay based group, integrated into the app, so users have forum to discuss the app/features/bugs/FAQ/tips/support and you can waste your time moderating it.

Would you consider only accepting kind 0 events? Nostr needs relays that reliably have users profile data to boot strap when they don't know the inbox/outbox relays the npub uses. Can you migrate that to something affordable or able to be sustained by donations?
If the goal is survival, a kind-0 bootstrap relay seems defensible. Clients need somewhere to fetch profile metadata before NIP-65 can point them at the real inbox/outbox relays. Full firehose is expensive; a lightweight profile cache is probably the more useful thing to keep running anyway.
It seems real builders run out of money while bullshitters light the way. 😔

Just a tip but serverhunter.com is a really nice website. I don't know if you can scale to multiple vps's for example or if you need something beefy but when it comes down to finding a server on the cheap this is where I look and try a few.
